Rice 42 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 (edited) TSN Nice trade for the Sens. Stillman is a valuable second line forward to have. He's a very underrated player. Commodore is a tough defenseman too, the kind of defenseman I would like the Wings to get. They just acquired a lot of valuable playoff experience. Turkey 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 Oh man! You beat me to it! I love Commodore. I'd like him in Detroit just for his hair. It's also nice to see Stillman get a shot. He plays well for Carolina but they aren't making it this year. With the Sens he has a legit chance.

nkuehnl 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 Stupid trade by Carolina. Wait another week or two and Commodore alone could fetch a massive overpayment. Every team wants a guy like him going into the playoffs. Corvo's below average defensive abilities are going to be exposed down there, and the guy is being paid way too much for simply being a mid-level PP specialist. Eaves could turn out to be good, but it's too early to decide on that. Carolina had a perfect playoff package to offer and they sold out way too early. Ottawa gets exactly what they need for the playoffs, and every team in the league looks worse right now. My question to Jim Rutherford: How on earth do you lose a trade when you're the seller? Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 The wings really need to make some good moves if they expect to win the cup Wrong, they need to be healthy and play hard if they expect to win the cup. We are better then every other team as is. A wrong move will do more damage then good. Especally considering that it looks like next year we will prob be even better in terms ofhaving even more depth and youth with experience playing our system. We will reguardless be better off if we can move two depth dmen 7 or lower on the depth chart to clear room. Meech and Quincey I am looking your way, no hard feelings eh. I wouldn't have minded picking up these two players (stillman and Mike). They both have a soft spot in my heart, and move from one of my top ten favourite teams to my second favorite team. I wish them all the luck in the world, and hope stillman gets his game back for my fantasy playoffs! Good deal.

Wings DO need to start pulling there game up and at the same time they could use another second line scoring threat. I mean zetterberg and dat's could use some effort from some the other lines. So i would have to agree that wings DO need someone at the deadline , because other teams that are going in are only going to get better at the deadline. blues_demitra38 11 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 Add Stillman to the list of Senators acquired at the deadline only to bolt the next year after a fruitless playoff. His production will drop dramatically and will get lost on their depth lines. In sum, this trade is nothing to get worked up over.
bellarina 1 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 Ottawa just became verry dangerous...and i'm not talking about Stillman. They needed to bolster their defence and they did that and then some. as for Stillman he was also a very nice upgrade compared to Eaves lots of playoff experience. Wings need to do something...there is a piece or 2 missing Sundin or Jokinen and a big tough d-man D Mac will come in handy in those playoff rounds that need a tough backbone. Whats the status of Worrel?? any one know?

Whats the status of Worrel?? any one know? I would agree that Commodore was the more significant of the players acquired. Stillman would not help the Wings as he is not a physical player. If Detroit can reacquire Lapointe or someone else who is willing to bruise the opposition then that's all they would need. Jokinen and Sundin will require hefty returns that I don't think would be feasible right now for Detroit. The Ducks game proved that Schnider>Rafalski so adding another defenseman would be a wise move. From the Blues, Jackman is available as he is an UFA after this season and is looking to test the market. This would be absolutely perfect for Detroit but I doubt St. Louis deals him within the division.
Yzerfan75 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 (edited) Wow. This one blew me away. Crazy. I'd say the Sens got a steal on this one. I'm more surprised that Carolina got rid of two of the most loved players (hell...you could buy a robe with Commie's number on it at any kiosk in the RBC)...something that seems all the more important when interest in the team has diminished since they went from winning the Cup to not making the Playoffs. ChelisChick 174 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 Has anybody even watched Commie play the last few games? He has turned into a traffic cone! He has consistently hung his goalie out to dry, and has been taking stupid penalties on a regular basis. Mosey on over to LetsGoCanes.com. The fans there are not very upset over losing Mike. I wouldn't say the Wings are lazy by any standards and do play hard. We are the best team because we have the most points, but that really doesn't matter come playoffs, ask the Oilers.... I'm just sick of winning the Presidents Trophy or being the number 1 seed in the West and getting ousted. If a minor deal or major deal could help us get over that hump, I don't see why not. Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 Great stuff! Finally, a major trade to report. Now, is it just me, or is Jim Rutherford one of the most overated GM's in the league? I mean, he's basically throwing in the towel with this move. Stillman is a great top 6 forward, and Commodore is the gritty defenseman that all teams love to have. They didn't exactly get much in return for those two. Keep in mind that I like Patrick Eaves a lot, and I think he'll be a great player, but that's still a few years down the road. I don't know why the Hurricanes wanted Corvo, because his salary puts him on the dead weight list. Ottawa has been trying to get rid of him ever since they signed him. Oh well. Still a nice thing to see regardless. Hopefully this opens up the floodgates, and we start seeing more trades, specifically involving the Wings.

They needed an offensive Dman bad, and Corvos not too bad in that regard. Hes decent at running the point. And no doubt hell get mad time on the PP over in Carolina. He could thrive there... Still, the Sens win this one hands down, unless Eaves blossoms in Carolina. Commodore was my #1 choice for the Wings to get, but we all know a Carolina-Detroit trade wont happen in a million years...
