Kira 451 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 (edited) What a grand effort by the guys tonight. Bravo to Aaron for that beatdown on Laperierre...what a douchebag. I can just see Darren McCarty sitting in GR chomping at the bit...you think he wasn't salivating about getting into a battle like this? Good to see Babcock show some emotion as well. Granato is gonna learn he can't match wits with Babs. It's like having a battle of wits with an unarmed person. Cheers to Ozzie for the shutout, which is what he (and the team) needed. Seriously. And congrats to Pasha for hitting the 400 career point mark tonight! I'm very proud of him. Love you, Pasha! Welcome back to the REAL Red Wings. Now let's hope that Nicky is not down for the count long. Edited February 19, 2008 by Kira
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 If Downey had fought Laperriere again, and Drake fought McLeod...i would have called in sick tomorrow. It'd be party time over here! Just to prove I'm not a blind homer, I'm calling out the PAIN TRAIN tonight for not challenging someone or jumping them. I know no one wants to fight him after the way he handled Neil, but he can still jump people if he wants to.

In his defense, maybe he's like that old boxer Max Baer....he's afraid to fight cause he thinks he might kill somebody. Thats gotta be it.

tiff_luvs_homer 5 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 (edited) Congrats on the win tonite wings fans - it was tough seeing my avs lose - you guys won fair and square. I am sad to say that my favorite av is the one who hit Lidstrom and I am really concerned for Lidstrom and I hope he's ok... Lappy doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would intentionally cause harm, so I don't know what was wrong tonite... I'm not trying to defend his actions, I am simply saying that he doesn't usually play like that. I would also like to mention that it would make me very sick if I heard an avs fan cheering for ANY player getting hurt. That is just unacceptable behavior. simply put! Get well soon Lidstrom. VladyIBELIEVE16 257 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 I was so ill on that hit on Nicky. UGH. If I had to hear the Versus announcers say ONE MORE TIME "Wow with a player like nick lidstrom out what will the WINGS DO?" ugh.... Noomrise22 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 Nice game by the boys tonight. I had a feeling they were going to break out of the slump after their game against Dallas. They were almost there in that one they just needed a little bit more confirdence and they had that tonight. Sucks to see Lids go down but I feel confident that he will be fine. Great to see Downey punch the clock and have his lunch pale with him tonight, as well as Zata, did yo guys see him choke Mcleod out with his stick, I think he might have cut him open, or maybe i was just really under the influence. Meech and Quincy both had great second halfs to the game, they looked a little rattled after lidstrom went down, but the savy vet Chelly held em together and even though i am not a huge lebda fan I thought he did a great job showin some leadership as well. Datsyuk is just plain sick, the guy has an unbelievable sense of the ice and where the safe spots are and where the pressure is. He never ceases to amaze me. On both goals with Zetty you can totally see them communicating with each other, is that like that mind over matter stuff...anyway, those two showed up tonight and showed the youngsters how it is done. Great outing by the Ozzy, I was on the edge of my seat all the way to the last seond pullin for a shutout. I really felt good about the team tonight, they showed some much needed grit. Look at all the extraciricular activities that went on after the whistle tonight, quite a few. All of that stemmed from from the Lapperiere hit. I think that is great and I am sure when Lids finds out that his TEAM had his back tonight that will motivate him to play even harder for them. Anyhow gotta surf the net "wink wink" soryy for the long write up I just really got into this one tonight. Good night fellow wings fans.

Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 If Joey was still playing, they would've kept Lappy on the bench for the rest of the game. If Joey was just on the bench, the entire coaching staff would have scattered. By the way, my man love for Babcock has entered a new level.
adtthosa 5 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 Lidstrom injury aside, this was pretty much exactly what we needed. Good game. I thought Chelios really stepped up once Nick went down.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 I normally don't comment too much in-depth in game day threads, but plenty to talk about in this one, and I apologize for probably re-stating the same stuff 3025 times. Was pretty surprised at this outcome. No, I'm not a doom and gloomer type, but given what has happened lately with a 6-game losing streak, your defense playing bad overall in that span, and your best player/leader and best d-man in the league going down with injury, the odds were not going to be good I thought. Glad I was definitely wrong. I don't know what was more surprising...that the Wings played so sound defensively after Lidstrom got injured, or that the Avalanche had almost no jump esp. after Lidstrom's injury. You'd think with Detroit being on a 6-game losing streak, and with just 5 defensemen, they would be attacking like crazy. Also it was the 2nd day of a back-to-backer for Detroit. Sometimes the obvious responses or odds don't just quite add up. And in this case, the odds not adding up was good tonight.
Vladiator 116 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 Great game to end the slump. Hope we get to play the Avs in the playoffs as it will reignite the rivalry for sure. Good job for our young boys on D. They really stepped up with Lidstrom being out.
