Interesting, kinda sad the first thing I always have to check with the new guys is if they fight ;)

Found this on his bio:

On April 30th, 2004 Stafford was playing for the Cleveland Barons against the Hamilton Bulldogs in the Calder Cup playoffs when he got into an altercation with Hamilton's winger Alexander Perezhogin. Stafford cross-checked Perezhogin in the face resulting in them both falling to the ice and as they were getting up Stafford took another swing with his stick, this time making contact with the back of Perezhogin's helmet. In response, Perezhogin swung his stick into Stafford's face as he was getting up. The slash knocked Stafford unconscious resulting in a concussion and sending him into convulsions on the ice as well as causing severe facial wounds which required 20 stitches to repair.

Perezhogin was charged with assault causing bodily harm and was given a one year probation as well as being ordered to cover Stafford's medical expenses and donate a further $5000 to charity. Perezhogin was also suspended for the rest of the playoffs and the whole of the 2004-05 season, the longest suspension in AHL history. Stafford was also suspended for six games for his part in the incident.

I do believe that was prior to the 06-07 campaign.

I beleive it was the last two. He is struggling this year in GR but my point was that hes not THAT far from being ready.

Kindl almost made the Wings out of training camp.

1. Kindl did not nearly make the team. Unless there was an injury, they were never going to give up on Meech's rights unless Kindl was the second coming of Bobby Orr

2. Kindl is a -24, among the worst in the AHL, and has a whopping 13 points

This is the right decision, because it shows the other Griffins that performance, not hype matters (Stafford has been much better than Kindl). If Kindl wants to make it to the NHL, he's going to have to improve his game.

Exactly,a big reason he didnt make the team was because of Meech's situation. Kindl was ahead of Meech in training camp, but yes this is the right call.

Kindl almost made the Wings last year, not this year. And this year, his numbers are terrible. He has one of the worst plus/minus ratings in the AHL. It might do him some good to see how he responds to more responsibility at the AHL level.

I would say the Wings are very high on Kindl, and he's ahead of Meech, Stafford, and others on the overall organzational chart, but he's not performing better than them right now.

They flirted with having him start the season in '06, but they surely would have sent him back to Kitchener after about 20 games. This is not that uncommon of a scnenario for top prospects, becuase it gives them an idea of how much work their game still needs to make it in the NHL.

so who do the Griffins recall? Gus from the beer league? Half their team is wearing the winged wheel

Gus is out with a displaced adrenal gland.

Seriously, I think they call up from... dang... is it Toledo? Flint?

Somebody help me out here. It's going to drive me nuts.

I don't think Toledo is even a team right now, waiting for a new arena. So I guess they go to Flint?

I actually wouldn't have been surprised to see the Wings raid the juniors for Logan Pyett, given that GR doesn't have much left in the way of defensemen.

Too bad Ference got hurt. This could have been his chance.

I don't know anything about Stafford, other than he's a career AHL'er up to this point, and he was on the wrong end of that ridiculous stick swing by Perezhogin. We'll see what he can do I guess.
