Spinner 6 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 (edited) If all he has to do is lose some weight and get in better shape, maybe he should hang with Cheli for awhile. Welcome back Mac, now sign the dotted line. Edited February 24, 2008 by Spinner
gsusluvshockey 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 He might want to see if he can get a few extra bucks in. While I'd take 100k in a heartbeat, he may be hoping to squeeze an extra 50k out of them.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 if mccarty doesnt accept offer i will no longer like him, why the f*** wouldnt he? the only reason i see is greed. the wings gave him another shot and he turns it down?? i hope not, and if he does i hope he breaks his ankle first game back for whatever team Don't you think you are being a little melodramatic there? Anyways I don't think we should get our hopes up or hold our breath on McCarty playing for the Wings again. He's got a long ways to go of training/getting in NHL shape, re-emphasizing what Wings management said. Would I love to see it happen? Absolutely, but I'm not losing sleep over the excitement of McCarty possibly donning a Red Wings jersey again.
jvxp 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 I would like to say first that I like McCarty but I have been watching him on the Griffins and he is the slowest guy on the ice for either team on any night. He does a lot of coasting when out on the ice. He has a looooooooooooooooooong way to go to get into shape. If he doesn't sign with the Wings it would be stupid on his part and as someone said greedy. I don't see another team taking him, he has no speed. Plus last night he got his butt kicked in a fight. Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 If he has an offer for a spot on a team willing to bring him up ASAP instead of towards the end IF he looks like he fits, that could be why. I think he will accept it, but the guy is at the end of his career, trying to get out of debt and rebuild his family. If he turns down the offer for a better choice for his personal scenario I would not hold that against him one bit.

Ive been trying desperately to find a vid of that fight for the past hour and a half....no luck. Various press clippings as well as your post have one thing in common though, apparently he didnt fare very well. On a side note: I CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT F'N MIKE KEANE STILL PLAYS!!!!! I think he should be happy and take the measly 100k. That guy is going to have some big issues that hopefully he takes out on the ice and on a cheap shotting foes face. CdnWingsFanEh 2 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 Anybody else wondering if somebody will claim Mac off waivers once the Wings call him up? Maybe I'm missing something, but he currently isn't signed to a deal, and so he would be signed as a UFA, and therefore wouldn't have to clear waivers to play on the wings, and I'm guessing the wings would sign him to a 2-way deal, given that he isn't in game shape yet, so he wouldn't have to clear waivers on the way down... superstarsingh 23 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 I really hope this is the media putting a spin on things, because Mac has no right to mull that offer. I love Mac more than anyone on this site, but he is in no position to be choosey. I completely agree.

A 2-way deal does not have any bearing on whether you have to clear waivers.

The game was on local tv last night but I didn't see any video clips from the game. Maybe try the Moose's website. It was not much of a fight. Mac took quite a few punches and a coulple uppercuts and tried to throw a few but had his jersey pulled over his head and held on for dear life. The thing I do like about him is that if any cheap shots are thrown on the ice he is right in there after the person or on his next shift.

That guy is going to have some big issues that hopefully he takes out on the ice and on a cheap shotting foes face. Exactly. He lost all his millions, and he is at the end of his career. If there is a team offering him more than the Wings, it could be better for him and his family, which he is trying to rebuild. There is not many years left for McCarty's career so he needs to maximize his income now in order to have some savings to support that family he is trying to rebuild. I'm not saying he has a better offer, but if he does, who can blame him for taking it. I mean yes he loves the Wings. But I believe in an article he listed his priorities as sbriety, family, hockey...his family comes first in those priorities... "Sobriety, family, hockey." Red Wings general manager Ken Holland listened as McCarty told him his list of priorities -- in order -- in a meeting between the two this month. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 Haha, everyone calm down. The only reason Mac hasnt accepted the offer yet is because his agent was also the agent for the late Mickey Renaud. He'll accept.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 On a side note: I CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT F'N MIKE KEANE STILL PLAYS!!!!! Haha, I thought the same thing. Keane is a dustbag now. I really can't believe he's still going, especially considering the style of game he plays. I mean, yeah, Chelios is still going too, but that's a different story. I commend Keane that he's still play, though considering he was part of the Wings - Av's rivalry, I still hate the bastard.

It takes some serious dedication to the game for a guy like him who's had a long NHL career, to be still playing in the minors and nearing the age of 41. I couldnt believe it when i saw his name on the Manitoba roster! I could see him being a good coach some day.
