Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 I don't know how many of you watch Sportnet, I usually spare myself and keep it on TSN, but the panel is talking about the trade deadline, and Kypreos claims that Pittsburgh could be shopping EVGENI MALKIN. His reasoning was that next year is the last year of his contract and they can't afford him and Crosby at the same time. I will try and find a link. What an idiot. I agree with what Nick is saying, that they just can't afford all of that talent, but to trade him NOW in 2008 is just silly. This is what I was trying to say when after they drafted Fleury/Crosby/Malkin..Not even taking the rest of the team into consideration, there's no way that they'll be able to afford to keep 3 franchise players. Besides, they are already 10million under the cap right now, although Sid's contract hasn't kicked in yet... Still - Kypreos is insane if he thinks that Pitty will let him go. They will have to let someone go eventually. As the cap keeps rising so will the salaries. The elite are making 7-10 million right now, that will go up to like 12 million and beyond eventually, but thats only when the cap is around 58-60 million i would wager. You cannot pay Crosby and Malkin 12-13 million each and expect to get Whitney, Letang, Fleury, Staal, etc.,etc. in under that cap. If they can do it, all the power to them, until then, I cannot see it happening and agree with Nick's thought process, although I think tomorrow is a little too early to be dealing with that problem.
