SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted March 28, 2008 To me, those people are fools. My wife and I don't have kids yet, but there's no place I would rather be than with my wife while our child is being born. I question the values of those that think otherwise, regardless of having children or not. Quoted for truth to the extreme if people seriously think this. I know pretty much any/every team has rabid fans and such, but if you can't set your pride aside for something like this, you've got problems. As important as your career/profession is, or in the case of the fan, rooting for your team is, FAMILY should always come first. And witnessing the birth of your child definitely qualifies for that. FireCaptain 563 Report post Posted March 28, 2008 Why would we want to be in the birthing suite with your wife? Agreed. Last week I was with my wife in the birthing suite for the birth of our 1st child (a little dude ), & it's an experience I hope everyone here can have I keed, I keed. My wife and I had our first 13 months ago and it is a great experience. Second one will be here in August.
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted March 28, 2008 Two reasons why I don't want to play the Canucks... A) Robert Luongo. I don't want to be stuck playing tight games against him and though I'm a bit more comfortable with the idea of Osgood playing well than I was a week ago, none the less, he hasn't been entirely consistent and it's still more likely that Hasek will start and I'm not quite comfortable with the idea of that at this moment in time. I honestly didn't care awhile ago but hey, bottom line, Luongo is not a guy I want to be playing one goal games against and I'm not convinced Cleary will be 100% let alone Homer. Yuck...I just don't like this idea at all... B) West Coast! And this goes for all the West Coast teams! If it happens even in the second round it won't bother me as much, but please not in the first round against Luongo no less! Even though we'd likely get through, sans a sweep, I'd rather not have the wear and tear of long travel, time changes and rough playoff games. So like others have said, bring on Nashville. I think we can get that done in 4 without Homer or Stuart. No time change, easy travel, weak goaltending...it'd be a good confidence booster and provide good rest to get ready for round 2. I don't like the idea of playing anyone left in the West much past Nashville so let's just hope for that in Round 1 so we can be amply ready for a much tougher round 2. The reason why I don't want the Wings to play the Canucks: Sleep. I need at least 6 hours each night, especially during finals week. Hopefully one day some idiot working for the NHL will realize that Detroit is nowhere near the Pacific time zone.
vangvace 12 Report post Posted March 28, 2008 he signed a long-term deal in Vancouver and I am quite certain they have OB/GYNS. I am sure they have a good life in Florida and they want the child to be a US citizen, FINE, but he shouldn't be leaving the team at a critical juncture. That and he got worked last night by the Avs. His wife is from Florida, thus a US citizen. The pregnancy is/was a complicated one. There is alot that can go horribly wrong quickly. If she had to be put on bed rest (shudder) I sure as hell would rather her be with family instead of in Vancouver. I've worked with many men that have been forced to be away from their families when their children were born. Sometimes they haven't been able to hold them until after a birthday has passed. It's a moment I've been twice blessed and fortunate not to have missed. Hockey is a game... families are forever.

God knows I can't stand that freaking whistle, nor do I want the team to have to deal with tootoo in a long series. < by long i mean 4 games. Do you have any kids? I don't have any of my own, but I have a nephew and a 2nd nephew on the way soon. My brother definitely thought nothing much of kids one way or the other before his first child but it's not too hard to tell that his son is one of the most important people in his life right now, and I have no doubt the 2nd would be as well. FAMILY is more important than sport.
Guest CaliWingsNut Report post Posted March 28, 2008 I know he lived in Flordia for a long time, and perhaps that is where she is from. But does anyone know why his wife would remain in Florida? I know Luo is well off and can afford to fly and see her when he wants, but with his schedule, that is a long time apart. My thought is that with his schedule, she is likely staying with family (hers or his) to aid her during pregnancy.
sergei_is_still_a_wing 1 Report post Posted March 28, 2008 I am a spry 21 years of age. the thought of having children is the farthest thing from my mind right now. that being said, i'd gladly, GLADLY take the blame for my team missing the playoffs if i had to choose between that and seeing my son/daughter being born. no brainer. Most parents would tell you they would give their life without a second thought in order to save their children and i feel no different. if you honestly think that hockey comes before your childs birth, i seriously hope you never have children. i know thats harsh, but you should be able to say that you would do ANYTHING for them. if you can't say that, wait until you can. its the main reason kids grow up in broken homes and result to illegal activities and drop out of school. children first. like my dad always said, "you have to take several tests to drive a car, but any idiot can have a kid." arnoldbuck 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2008 I have somewhat mixed emotions here, I know Luongo could easily steal a series, but also from living in BC, one of my all time favorite hockey moments was the 02' first round where we beat the Canucks. Awesome.

arnoldbuck 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2008 ^^^ Hahahaha. Thats awesome. I remember last season, in the preseason predictions, following Luongos move from Florida to Vancouver, it said; Dear Roberto, Same tee time, different course. OsGOD 3 Report post Posted March 31, 2008 Last year was a freak accident that Bobby made the playoffs. Glad to see history back on its repeating pattern... NHL Playoffs do not include the like of Bobby Lu! I am saddened that it comes at the expense of Keslers playoff chances... but yeah... Bobby's not in the playoffs AGAIN!!!
