BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted April 5, 2008 The easiest team for the Wings would have been Chicago. The Hawks would have been lucky to last 5 games. But if I had to pick second, it would be Nashville. Sure, the Preds could win. But if they can't beat Nashville, they're not very good.
DeuxEx 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2008 The Predators could win but it relies on how well the Red Wings are playing. There is no reason the Wing's shouldn't win this in 5 if they play up to the standard that they can play at, especially when they have Stuart, Holmstrom and Draper back. CUJO#31 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2008 I like the Wings in five. It's not possible for the Preds to beat the Wings on their own. The Wings would have to help and I don't see that happening. Agree
2probert4 8 Report post Posted April 6, 2008 We have better team. If Wings play their game, Predators won't be hard to beat. First thing Babs should do is to send Downey or Mac to beat that little punk Tootoo. Fighting in the playoffs doesn't happen often, and if im correct, there were no fighting majors in the 8 games the Wings and Predators played against each other this season. It doesnt happen that often, but games can that are decided can definitely get out of hand. Ryan Clowe kicked Tootoo's ass in last year's playoffs. With a guy like Tootoo, you know for sure he's going to headhunt especially if a game is lopsided. I think we need somebody in there like Downey to counter him and take care of him if need be. Mors 201 Report post Posted April 6, 2008 Any team in the playoffs could potentially upset any other, that's not to say I think the Predators will do it though

Yes you are correct, Nashville starts with the rough stuff if they get down in a game. The last visit to Nashville was a good example, with Hamhuis trying to rough it up with Zetterberg. With that Clowe fight, was that the scrum when Hartnell was getting pounded and Tootoo tried jumping in and then Clowe laid the smack down ?
rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted April 8, 2008 If Nashville can take away passing lanes, pressure Detroit's defence, cause turnovers, has their young defence play real physical against Hank and Pavel, and Dom suffers a total meltdown, then yes. I have a feeling this series may go 7 games. But I just can't see this particular Wings team losing. Unless they have some god-aweful luck (and I'd like to hope they have already experienced their quota of that for this season)

stormboy 47 Report post Posted April 8, 2008 if the wings lose, they'll beat themselves. against a team like the sharks, i wouldn't necessarily say that, if the sharks are playing their BEST hockey, it is only up to the wings to win or lose the series. but with nashville, the wings' best will beat the preds' best any day that ends with "y." so, yeah, it COULD happen, and it may. i've seen the wings beat themselves plenty of times in games they should win. maybe the title of the thread should have been "will the predators beat the red wings." of course anything "can" happen. but will they? no. That sounds like it, i dont recall exactly but i know where there were quite a few guys involved including Hartnell, Grier, and Hannan.

chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted April 8, 2008 1. Did one of our goalies get pulled after 3 in the first. Differance? They came back and won that game. 2. We just lost to Chicago by four goals as well. 3. Did we take every Central team lightly, since we got beat up by all of them the worst this year. I do think the wings will win it, hopefully the Wings do not have the same view as some of us cause they may not come out to win. You completely missed my point. It's not about how either team played last month or last fall, it's about how they have been playing lately. 1. This was 2 games ago. Yea Hasek got pulled two weeks ago. 2. We haven't lost to Chicago recently and we beat them 2 days ago 4-1 3. We had a winning record against St. Louis, Columbus and Nashville. Only Chicago beat us 5 games to 3. servo 15 Report post Posted April 8, 2008 I really don't think that the Predators will be able to upset the Wings. THey don't have enough scoring depth and if a guy on their roster becomes hot, he can be nutralized by our defensive system. I am worried about the health of our team and I am having seroius doubts about us being able to maintain the intensity of this tourney without reinjuring our walking wounded as well as watching others fall. If we stay healthy, I think that we will win the cup, but I don't think that we can stay healthy. Furthermore, if a Wings exit happens it will not be because of the predators. I would rest the questionable guys and wait until the second round to play them.
Doggy 130 Report post Posted April 9, 2008 The Predators are definitely able to upset the Red Wings. They are a well-coached team and have shown to me this year that they are able to employ and execute a gameplan to overcome Detroit. That being said, an upset is unlikely. For this to happen it would need to be a combination of perfection from Nashville as well as subpar performances from Detroit. Goalies capitulating under pressure, consistent defensive lapses and a disappearing act from Hank and Datsyuk would be required. I can't see this being the case over a 7-game series but stranger things have happened.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted April 9, 2008 Of course the Predators CAN upset the Red Wings. Anybody CAN beat any other team on any given night. Will they beat them is the question. This is just one idiot's uneducated opinion, but I say Wings in 5. For those who expect the Wings to win every game 6-1 though, I'd think again, because winning these first four games, assuming they do, won't be a cakewalk. And as much as we hate the Predators, generally speaking, I think they deserve some pretty good credit for even making it into the playoffs after the roster overhaul in the offseason and uncertainty in their future. Wings also arent having to play the Predators in Nashville after playing a game the night before, and flying to Nashville overnight. Most of the Predator home games are situations like that.
