David 2 Report post Posted April 15, 2008 (edited) Part of russia/USSR is considered Europe, which includes Pavel's birthplace. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yekaterinburg "In the 1920s, Yekaterinburg became a large industrial center of Russia. It was the time when the famous Uralmash was built, becoming the biggest heavy machinery factory in Europe." Edited April 15, 2008 by David

Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted April 15, 2008 (edited) Datsyuk was born in Yekaterinburg (then at the time called Sverdlovsk, which has no relation to present day Sverdlovsk, located in Ukraine), which is located in the Eastern side of Russia, making it a part of Europe, not Asia. The majority of Asia is located in countries such as China and Mongolia. The sections of Russia that are in Asia are mostly un-inhabited (think: Siberia), and the few areas that do have people are very small villages/towns, most of which do not have large populations. Most Russians in the NHL come from the larger cities of Eastern Russia, which is part of Europe. Edited April 15, 2008 by Kp-Wings

David 2 Report post Posted April 15, 2008 Datsyuk is listed as 5'11, 197 and Zetterberg is 5'11 195. I guess I was only thinking about facial features.

Actually I think it is Western Russia which can be considered part of Europe, the farther East you get - the closer you are to the 'orient'. I would say Eastern Russia is 'Eurasia'. Yekaterinburg is located in the center west of Russia.
scotvm 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2008 haha im sorry but all this geographical history made me think of this..... Wayne Campbell: So, do you come to Milwaukee often? Alice Cooper: Well, I'm a regular visitor here, but Milwaukee has certainly had its share of visitors. The French missionaries and explorers began visiting here in the late 16th century. Pete: Hey, isn't "Milwaukee" an Indian name? Alice Cooper: Yes, Pete, it is. In fact , it's pronounced "mill-e-wah-que" which is Algonquin for "the good land." Wayne Campbell: I was not aware of that.

Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted April 15, 2008 teams score 2 goals right after each other, twice? because they weren't together? lol I think its safe to say he was referring to the lack of offensive output by Zetterberg, and to an extent Datsyuk. They are just better together.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted April 15, 2008 I don't like that name for either of them. Euro twins should be reserved for Henrik and Daniel Sedin- who are both European and... twins. Dats and Z should be nicknamed The Neighboring Acquaintances. Not only is it accurate, but it rolls off the tongue

Guest Jeremy88 Report post Posted April 15, 2008 Z needs better linemates to produce offense, especially in the playoffs. Franzen is alright, seeing as he's really come on strong lately, but Sammy ain't getting it done. I say put Cleary up there with them.

He is certainly european. His last name is Ukrainian, just like Hordichuk or Kovalchuk. Most of the settlers in the vast lands of Urals and Siberia were Ukrainians - sent there either by Katherine II or Joseph Stalin. There is no doubt that his predecessors moved to Urals from somewhere in Ukraine and settled in Yekatrinburg. Lots of people did, therefore you see lots of ukrainian last names both in Siberia and even Kazakhstan these days.
