Respect for the Red Wings and their fans

First of all, welcome to the boards. It gets pretty chaotic around here but if you have a good sense of humor it can be lots of fun. We love having respectable and knowledgable fans around, no matter who they cheer for. Enjoy your stay.

Second of all, I really don't think Sakic and Hasek can be compared. They both bring two very different things to the game. In their primes, they are both phenomenal players. Just can't be compared, that's all. It's an apples and oranges situation you've got going on.

Thats what I thought too! but he continues to make stupid remarks like it!!

well i dont know how to compare a goalie and a player, but sakic is one of the most genuine hockey players and I just wish he was still on the nordiques so i wouldnt have to dislike him for being on the avs....but in their prime i think hasek was more of a gamebreaker just because hes a goalie, but i definately think sakic has more skill right now than hasek

One question that has come up on our boards which I have argued regulary and it was started by one of the more disrespecting wings fans on our boards, but do you gys think that hasek is a better overall hockey player then Sakic

:blink: daaaaaaamn... all i can say... who is playing in round 2 and who isn't?

anyways, welcome to the boards...

you may respect us but don't think for a second that if we fall behind for a millisecond that we will respect ourselves!!! its quite humorous actually... when that (disrespecting ourselves), and it will, happens just sit back and enjoy the show

Welcome to the board!!

As for Hasek and Sakic, I don't know. But I will say this, I have always liked Joe Sakic, even during the rivalry period. He is one of the most respectable players in the game today! He brings class to the game and its not ironic that he wears the number 19!! Stay Cool Man, and yes GO WINGS!!!!

When did we become so politically correct around here? This is an Avs fan we are talking about people!

I can respect Sharkfan and Duck Guy.....but honestly, I have to reach way down to respect Avs fans, if I can at all.

I'm not speaking for anyone else but myself when I say:

Sorry...I'm sure you're a nice guy and all, but by virtue of being an Avs fan, I hate you. Enjoy your stay I guess, but I certainly won't be interacting with you. I won't flame ya or purposely cause disruptions with you during the series, but I certainly don't have to pretend were bosom buddies either.

Going further, I'm a Michigan transplant in Minnesota, and I can say with absolute certainty that hockey fans in Minnesota are 10 times more knowledgeable about the sport than fans in Colorado. You may just think they are uncivil because they hate the Avs and their fans about as much as Red Wings fans.

What a great example of how to post a welcome message.

Vladdy, I'm not trying to set an example, and I said I was only speaking for myself.

I understand that you and others may view me unfavorably due to my post, and I can accept that.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. It's like the Jets and Sharks in Westside Story. I don't believe Wings fans and Avs fans should be nice to each other. It somehow doesn't feel right.

but do you gys think that hasek is a better overall hockey player then Sakic

Actually... it is really easy to compare them. Hasek is arguably the greatest goaltender ever (right up there with Roy, Plante, Sawchuk and Hall). In recent times, only Roy is comparable and once Hasek entered the NHL Roy never won a single Vezina trophy (while Hasek was also winning Harts). Roy may have more playoff success but overall I do not think it is even that close.

Is Sakic thought of as one of the best forwards ever? No.... not even close, really. He is an excellent, excellent player who will automatically go into the Hall of Fame. But he will have to win a few more Harts and scoring titles to come even close to matching Hasek's accomplishments.... and while Sakic has remained very good for a long time, I do not see him rising to the top of the league again.

Hasek is a much better overall hockey player than Sakic. I do not even think that is debateable. That is no slight, mind you... Hasek is also a much better hockey player than Yzerman (whom I have very close to Sakic overall).

What makes Hasek better overall than either Sakic or Yzerman? It's impossible to compare goalies to skaters as far as overall ability goes. What exactly makes a great overall goalie? I don't know the answer, but it probably wouldn't be Hasek, since he does so many strange things out there on the ice. If you're just looking at accomplishments, then is Hasek better than Yzerman and Sakic just because he won more harware? Once again, it's hard to compare, since they weren't battling for the same awards, necessarily.

I love your rules and will abide by them, both Sakic and Yzerman are gods of hockey, and therefore i would never talk bad about them!

One question that has come up on our boards which I have argued regulary and it was started by one of the more disrespecting wings fans on our boards, but do you gys think that hasek is a better overall hockey player then Sakic

his quote was "Hasek is the greatest current hockey player that is an automatic bid for the hall"

I said what about sakic really not trying to be a homer, and he said no they aren't even close, hasek wins..

What do some of you smart Wings fans think?

I'd say the person you speak of making a comparison that cannot be made. Hasek will end up in the hall. He has clearly demonstrated his talent as a GOALIE over the course of his career. To compare him and Sakic makes no sense. They play two completely different roles on their respective teams. Sakis is also a given for the hall of fame. You were clearly chatting with someone who has a man-crush on Hasek.

As a Wings fan who for some unknown reason has several former boyfriends who are Avs fans (for reasons I cannot even begin to explain), I will tell you that I had to harrass them all by saying "After 9 straight periods of being shutout by Osgood and the Wings, the Avalanche have conceded game 4 and the Wings advance to the conference finals by default." Intelligent hockey discussions must always include humor.

Can't wait for the series to begin. Go Wings!!!

While I agree Theo did really, really well in the Wild series...one thing I noticed was that MN wasn't doing anything about that. When you get a goalie that's playing that well and stopping everything he sees, you make sure he can't see the puck. MN was putting virutally no traffic in front of Theo so he was abkle to go along stopping what h saw. Now in this series he has to contend with Holmstrum and Franzen (who has been getting so much better at playing hard in front of the net). Bottom line...he's not going to have such an eaasy time seeing the puck in this series. So it'll be interesting how he does with that sort of traffic in front of him.

All I can say is that,

Without Forsberg, Hejduk and Sakic.. There is no Colorado Avalanche. They have a strong team, but have no chance against the wings.

It's pretty easy to compare the Vezina to the Art Ross trophy:

Hasek = 6

Sakic = 0

They both compete for the same Hart and Pearson trophy (though it is admittadly tougher for a goaltender to win):

Hasek = 2 each (nominated 3 other times)

Sakic = 1 each

First Team All-Star:

Hasek = 5

Sakic = 3

There are two other active players who could currently compete for that title with Hasek:

Lidstrom and Jagr.

Sakic is not in that echelon.

I agree with egroen.

me, too. :thumbup:

edit: by the way, I have the utmost respect for Joe Sakic, the only Av I actually do like. You can't really compare him with Hasek, as others have said.

Without Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Lidstrom there is no Red Wings.

The Avalanche have a deeper roster than the Wings with Ryan Smyth dominating the third line and Stastny and Wolski putting in top line minutes.

You cannot compare a center forward to a defenseman....well I guess you can, but it is completely flawed.

Sakic and Yzerman had a hard time winning trophies because they played with other great players, and also, they had to compete against Gretzky and Lemiux for those scoring trophies.

Hasek was the only star on his team, thus anything he did was more magnified as far as importance goes.
