Did anyone else hear Mike Babcocks post game press conference when he referenced Ericcson a stud? To me, Babs made it sound like theres no way he wont be here next season, and if he's that good, there isnt any reason he shouldnt be.

im fine with that, but i would take meech or quincey over chelios pretty much anyday of the week (unless chelios is playing one of his better games that night) he is just getting too old and slowing down.

I agree with you. I just cant see the wings turning Chelli down if he has interest in returning. If he walks though, this issue may work itself out.

I did hear that..."I can't believe we're not dressing him" or something along those lines. This plan looks good to me, I just hope re-signing Stuart is as easy as everyone else seems to think, he's earning himself a decent payday in these playoffs.

That really surprised me when I heard that, but he did play like a stud when he was up. I think it'll be fun to watch these guys develop (Quincy, Ericsson, hopefully Kindl and Smith).

I'd love to see an ericsson, Quincey 3rd pairing next season because it's a perfect combo of offense and defence with lots of size and good speed and range. Having said that I fully expect Ericsson to be in the ahl until he's over ripe. Losing one of Meech, Quincey, Lebda because Chelios doesn't know when to hang em up would be a waste. Hopefully we win the cup so he can exit stage left on top.

To my recollection I read that, the Wings can't send Ericsson down to the AHL anymore. He's won't clear waivers and some team will claim him like they did Matt Ellis. If that's true, then Ericcson is going to have to make the team. Someone can clarify if they know anything about it.

What makes players eligble to be placed on waivers? Is it their age, contract length, years played? I have no idea.

Am I correct that most of the baby wings have 2-way contracts and therefore aren't eligble to be placed on waivers?

Or am I completely and utterly confused

I'm fairly certain that Chelios will retire if the Wings win the Cup this year.

When we played against Montreal earlier this year, I noticed Chelios really went out his way to thank the fans and were trying to soak up the atmosphere. I remember him saying 'you never know when you are going to get this opportunity next time'.

I dunno but to me, it doesn't sound like someone who is very confident about playing next year.

Although he might be ready to play into his 50s physically, I think he realizes his time is near. If we win the Cup this year.. my guess is that he will think long and hard about retiring.

Anyway I think Cheli still has something left in his tank. If he wants to come back, I think Wings will sign him.

i think the wings will sign him, and i wouldnt mind it that much...because i love cheli, but i do hope they let the pain train walk so that way cheli/lebda/quincey/ericson can rotate in at the third pairing

I consider myself somewhat of an expert on Jonathan Ericsson, and I think, given the opportunity, he can be a very good defenseman in the NHL.

not too sure myself but i think waivers come into effect when a player has been in one team for a certain amount of days (i think its something like 30) and then they cant just go straight back down they need to clear waivers. this way you can call up a player for an injury when one of your big boys are on the IR but you dont have to lose them sending them back down.

Sorry, but if Babs is raving over Ericsson right now and cant believe we arent dressing him, why would we waste his talent in GR? If Ericcson is as NHL ready as Babs made him out to be, he will be here next season, as he has top 2 pairing potential. Guys like Lebda, Quincy, Meech are nothing more than depth defenseman. They can be replaced very easily.

This whole situation is going to get interesting come this off season defiantly. I personally would let let lilja go, and somehow rid myself of lebda. After watching meech in there lebda to me looks real expendable cause what doe she brign besides speed.... to me nothing really. meech can atelast be a steady dman with upside to get better and be able to sit out a while and still find a grove when inserted. would love to see what he can do with a full season under his belt. BUt excited to see how quincy and Ericsson fit into the plans. just imagine th mess if fischer was still able to play, bless his heart.
