Dispelling some myths: the Pittsburgh Penguins

This playoffs how many times were they able to put up 5 goals.

Against poor D teams.

Well to answer your question, they've put up atleast 5 goals in 4 of their 14 games (3 Games being 5 goals, and the 1 Game being 6 goals).

Edit: Not that it was my argument with you to begin with, but just thought I'd post the numbers for those that were interested.

No prob NFM

So how is it these guys think game one in D town, the pens will put up 5? Against the no1 defensive team in the league.

It's the fact that they play in a conference with universally weak defense. Out of that pool of non defensive teams they managed to play three teams that either had crap defense to start with or who's defense was either playing injured or not playing at all. Somehow scoring on a bunch of broken teams equates to dominating (with 5 goals) a healthy defense that is #1 in the league backed up by the #1 defensive forwards in the league. Obviously the logic is flawed but going by a good share of the comments from their fans about how stellar their guys are on defense, I don't think they've watched a western conference game this decade.

How many times this year has anyone scored 5 or more goals on the wings? You can say it's the defense in front of him, or it's the goalie I don't really care but you just need to take a look at the GAA to see that this is a pipe dream.

I'll even save you the trip TheWellHungarian.

Detroit versus the Central: 17-12-3

Detroit versus the East: 7-2-1

Detroit versus the Pacific: 15-5

Detroit versus the Northwest: 15-2-3

MEAN OLD RED WINGS, ONLY BEATING UP ON CENTRAL OPPONENTS!

This East v. West thing is tired. The Pens were 8-1-1 against the West, a schedule that included every West playoff team except the Wings and Preds. 3 of the wins came in succession on the road in Western Canada.

Drop the freakin' puck! This is hell! :shout:

This argument had nothing to do with the East vs. West. A Pens fan made a comment that the Wings beat up on the "weak" Central Division en route to their Presidents Trophy. I simply posted their record for all 82 games. Don't take it out of context.

BTW, I agree....Drop the freakin' puck!

Sorry. I just picked a random post from the huge East v. West argument bucket. I realize I could have picked a post from deeper in the bucket instead of on the lip, like 3-4 posts up :withstupid:

Freakin' newbs and their emoticons!

I'm finding that a steady diet of alcohol is pretty good at taking the edge off. It's easier to get than Valium. I'd recommend jello shots for while you're at work. People just think you're having a snack.

Xanax

Tequila :drunk:

and a little :smokin: for me.

But I love the jello shots at work idea. That might just do the trick.

I just need to avoid

:puke:

Any Pens fan leaning on that is as wrong as any Wings fan leaning on the fact that we played weak teams.....

But lets be real...yeah..we beat Ottawa (big whup)...Rags did have a top 5 defense...and the Flyers were hurt....but you guys beat the Preds and Avs (2 more big whups)...and a Dallas team that was supposed to lose to Anaheim and San Jose...all that being said....SO WHAT????

This whole argument is stupid....all that matters is this series...and Im sorry...there is NO WAY to handicap it

Thats what makes it so great!!!

PLEASE....drop the puck

Congrats on the President's Cup, beat up on Columbus, Nashville, Chicago & St Louis. Not exactly the Devils, Flyers, Rangers & Islanders.

Drop 2 games to the vaunted N-ville predators, swept a Colorado team the limped into the playoffs with the most losses of any playoff team, and then dropped another 2 games to a beat-up & tired Dallas team.

This Detroit team will be in for a surprise, so Pens fans, make sure your seatbacks & tray tables are in their full upright & locked position, & all carry-on items are stowed, as we prepare for take-off!!!"

It comes down to this. Who is going to stop Datsyuk, Zetterburg and Franzen?

Wow, it got awful quiet all the sudden.......

I find it funny how you tell me "it doesn't matter who played who" and then you go on to say that some of your response is *opinion*. While, I don't argue that the Wings are the better team, and that its their series to lose, what difference does it make to compare playoff opponents to each teams strength's and weaknesses when they haven't played each other all season. They are all contributing factors in to analyzing how the teams will matchup.

Your reasoning is no better (or worse) than analyzing things on paper. It's just that....an analysis until the puck drops.

You are right. Until the puck drops nobody knows. Anything can happen. But for the Pens to beat us in 4 of seven games it would be a monumental upset. It could happen but it's not very likely. The Wings would have to literally fall apart and there is nothing that indicates that that is even a remote possibility.

But I guess as a Penguin fan, you need to believe in miracles because that is your only hope.

The Americans beat the Russians in 1980. Problem is those kinds of things don't happen very often.

Alot of the Pens fans are claiming that "on paper" they are the better team and using that to say that they will win. That just isn't so. The Wings are far and away the better team "on paper" and it is not likely that the Pens will win.

OK...I'll bite on this one...you are actually comparing this impending series to the 1980 Olympics????

Are you??...Seriously??

How many times does it need to be said? We finished sub .500 against the Central, and still won the West. We dominated everyone in the West and that's why we are here. Islanders?

Hasek was in net, good one. You guys beat Philly, Colorado didnt limp into the playoffs, they got all their injuries in the 2nd round. Philly had all of there top 4 playing at 20% or worse, and still won a game. Haha, Dallas might just be 10x better then the Rangers, in all parts of the game.

It is Penguins fans in for a surprise, Gill, Scuderi and Orpik wont handle ZDH. I cant wait for tommorow night.

Even with Tretiak out, they should have been outscored by 8 goals. The better TEAM won.
