HDTV

Good lord, HD makes a huge difference. Everytime I am forced to watch non-HD I realize just how big a difference is. Not just in clarity but in overall amount of angle on the picture. You can see like half of the ice on HD when they pan out instead of just barely the offensive zone.

I have a 42" Sony that I got as an open item at Best Buy for a price I couldn't resist. No sound system worth mentioning YET. :)

Actually, no HDTV for me where I live. I have definitely seen and appreciate hockey games that are in HD, but truthfully it is a luxury I don't mind living without. I can still see games and the puck/action very well on my normal TV.

The question is have you spent the money on all the necessary cables?

If you mean me,then yes I have HDMI on Directv HDDVR and PS3 and Surround Sound DVD thats also LG. The audio is using a optical cable that uses the red beam. But I really can't tell that it's better than the sound from the HDMI.

I'm curious why the original poster is showing us a picture of a personal HD setup...? I don't understand.

As for the cables, you act like the cables are very expensive to get an outstanding HD picture. Let me inform you on a little something I call, BEST BUY SUCKS ASS. Here's the deal, Best Buy and similar stores only stock the most expensive HDMI and component cables because they know YOU, the ordinary consumer, thinks that what you need. They are misinforming you and taking advantage of you.

Here's a little comparison for you...

HDMI cable

Best buy $50+

newegg.com $10 or less

RGB component cables... want to know a funny thing, these "special cables" are NO DIFFERENT than your current RCA (red, yellow, white) cables. They are the same exact thing! Just because a color is different doesn't mean anything. You could mix and match them all you want, just make sure the same color is going to the same color. For instance, you could do this... buy an RCA (red, yellow, white) cable for your HDTV and run the yellow cord from Green to Green, run the white cord from Blue to Blue, and run the red cord from Red to Red. Or you could even go crazy and run the yellow or white cable from Red to Red. It doesn't matter! They all are the same thing, just labeled by different colors. Mix and match all you want.

DO NOT SPEND MONEY AT BEST BUY (or similar store) ON THE FOLLOWING...

-HDMI cables (get them online and newegg.com or somewhere where they are priced at $10)

-Monster RGB component cables (extreme rip-off which do not offer a better picture than normal RCA (red, yellow, white) cords. Buy RCA cables instead for as little as $5.

-Never buy the gold-plated or other specialty RGB / COMPONENT / HDMI cables, period. GIMMICKS!

Hopefully that helps at least one person out there save money!

I actually work in TV / Film in Burbank and get pissed when companies like Best Buy completely mislead people. (on a side note, DVD up-convert players are a false gimmick as well, never spend more than $75 on a DVD player).

For the record, Monster cables are not worth the money. You can get a decent HDMI cable for less than $20. However, you don't need one of those for an HD connection. Component cables work just as well because DirecTV and most cable companies only send a 1080i signal, not 1080p. The only time high quality cables come into play is if you have your cable box/DVD player/etc about 20+ feet away from your TV; signal will come into play. However, most people don't have that setup; and if you DO have that setup, you can probably afford to spend $90+ on a cable.

I have a 42" Toshiba Regza 1080p w/ a 7.1 Onkyo Sound system. HD is the best; I'll never go back.

I have a 40" Samsung. My HDMI was free from Charter with the rental of the HD cable box i had to get in order to watch HD.

I agree that the HD is amazing and beats out regular any day of the week. I went up north and got stuck watching the game in standard def and almost cried. The panning is ridiculous. I hate it lol.

CBC doesn't broadcast an HD signal through the airwaves like regular US networks (nbc, abc, cbs, fox, etc)???

I'm surprised...

so yeah, there's another reason Best Buy sucks, they are trying to push "HD Antennas" which is BS because you can pick up the digital HD broadcasts with regular rabbit ears. NEVER BUY HD ANTENNAS!

I sent an E-mail to CBC Windsor a while back about CBC-HD OTA and here is the reply I got back.

CBC is currently broadcasting in over the air high definition in Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver. Beyond that, no further decisions have been made regarding further

expansion as yet, since federal funding for such projects is not currently in place. Any further new transmitters would likely be placed in major centres of high population, but

it's premature to speculate on possible locations for future transmitters at the moment, or on exactly when additional facilities might be installed.

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has established a date of August 31, 2011 as the deadline to end analog TV transmission in Canada.

Expansion projects for CBC will not be put in place until after this deadline.
