oh. my. god.

Is this thread for real? Can you folks seriously think Downey would intentionally ...... never mind.

Maybe the lesson here is for Flippr to keep his frickin head up.

No kidding. Watch the guy behind you and not the puck at your feet. What's the puck matter anyway?

Downey hit Filp, Draper bitched out downey, downey apologized, and filp accepted.

Whats the issue again? Its a jammed thumb. Seems like the fans are more concerned than the players are.

Pretty much sums it up. I'm pretty much the biggest Flip fan and I basically can't stand Downey, but this doesn't irrate me at all lol. But just for the record we had a guy on our team have a jammed thumb, it was during a game from a hit behind as well, and even was diagnosed as a jammed thumb by doctors. Jammed thumbs, though, can also be thumb fractures; thumb fractures linger for months, and even my buddy has trouble now grippin' the stick right. As an athletic trainer myself, I see a lot of "jammed" thumbs really turn out to be thumb fractures; someone who said early, teams always understate injuries, let's just hope this isn't one of those cases.

How often do you perform oral on Lilja?

I think Drapes bitching at him, and Downey *admitting* he saw numbers when he hit shows it was not a "freak" accident. It was a bad check. He didn't mean it, he aplogized, but as was said, if it was Sammy, 90% of you would have a different opinion OF A HIT YOU DIDN'T EVEN SEE.

Damn, we are a bunch of homers... <_<

Not as often as I perform it on your girlfriend, pervert.

Yes, look directly at the puck and no player will hit you because you are just so damn concentrated.

Hockey is physical. When you have the puck at the corner you are going to get hit.

Besides can people not judge without seeing the hit? Sure Draper thought the hit was unnecessary but he also thought the hit on Lidstrom (the Colorado game) was unnecessary.

It would help if more people actually played hockey at a reasonably competitive level rather than just watching it for a pseudo-profession.

Accidents happen. People will occasionally hit teammates, refs, whoever. Sometimes those hits are ill-advised and oftentime a player executing a hit like that will know almost as soon as the hit is made that it was a bad idea. You get this sinking feeling just as the other guy hits the boards head-first, kind of a "Ah, ****. You OK?" moment. It still happens. I'm sure it was taken care of by the team in an appropriate fashion. Downey did not hit Flip with the intent to seriously injure him.

Honestly, this is the type of thing I'd want to see from Downey in training camp. The guys playing with fire. Isn't that what you want from a 4th liner/extra type? Hes just trying to show he can bring it to the game. The fact that he got a little carried away is a good thing in my eyes. If this were the regular season, its not Filppula but Toews or Huselius or Kane or Arnott. If he can rough 'em up a bit, why not?

Honestly, is it really that hard to see? The guys trying to make the team and people think hes actually going out there for blood on his own teammates? The guys already dedicated himself to protecting our guys. It was a simple accident, no real harm done, you move on.

And to Draper, it would be nice to see you go back to actually using the body in an effective way, buddy.

The point is that if you're facing into the boards with your numbers out, you shouldn't have to worry about someone ass-ramming you from behind. It's almost like seeing someone throw a rock at a goalie's head and yelling at the goalie, "Keep your head up, mate!"

I'm all for "playing with fire," but Draper, whether he was overwrought or not, said it best: there's no point in making a move like that in training camp. You can play with fire and zeal and passion and all that, but you've got to be smart and careful about it. It sounds like what Downey did was not smart. Unintentional? Surely. But not smart. So no, I don't think he should be praised for it.

Because if a guy gets hurt on a boarding play it's 5 and a game. Downey can't possibly do enough good to warrant giving the other team a 5 minute powerplay.
