grsbmd 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 From TSN: http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=252547&lid...s=secStory_main Collapsed on the bench. There are rumors that it's worse than that, but I have no interest in spreading them.
Bryguy 103 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 TSn now saying hes dead.... So sad. Also read this in another site. "Apparently KHL arenas with all those billions of oil dollars don't have portable defibrillators, like the one Red Wings had in Joe Louis Arena."

FinRedWing 172 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 (edited) What in the world? That's so sad. RIP He was a great kid," Cherepanov's agent, Jay Grossman told TSN. "He had a great smile and was an outstanding player with a great future on and off the ice. It's both shocking and devestating news for all of us. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 This is utterly terrible news. Bourdon and Cherepanov in the same year, this isnt right. RIP Alexie, you had so much promise as did Bourdon, and now it's all cut short. I cant believe this has happened.

Drimo 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 Very sad indeed. I wonder if this will have an effect on players choosing to play in the KHL as it seems the NHL is far ahead in emergency response. Interesting times we have right now with the discussions about the NHL vs the KHL.
DyingAlive 27 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 Wow, this is awful news. I'm the same age as this kid and hearing him die at such a young age during the game is terrible. Prayers with his family and friends.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 How Tragic. The report states that the paramedics had already left at that point of the game and had to be called back.
sergei_is_still_a_wing 1 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 just heard this on the sabres broadcast. so incredibly sad and shocking. too too young. Something needs to be done so at WORST, the outcome is like that of fisch. get those external defibs at EVERY SPORTING EVENT site. players 18+ playing at this high a level under this much stress and pressure should be protected. my thoughts and prayers are with alex's family and friends. egroen 384 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 (edited) I may be rumor-mongering, but I hear it may be "from non-incidental contact" with Jagr??? http://newyorktrueblue.wordpress.com/2008/...uring-khl-game/ Theres reports that during a line change Jagr’s elbow hit Alexei in the chest and shortly after he collapsed. TSN is reporting that the ambulance that is at all games, left during the 3rd period before the incident occurred. It had to be called back and took roughly 15-20 mins. Theres also a question of whether or not the arena had a working defibrillator. Please feel free to delete this if I am out of line. Obviously a terrible tragedy. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 I may be rumor-mongering, but I hear it may be "from non-incidental contact" with Jagr??? Please feel free to delete this if I am out of line. Obviously a terrible tragedy. On Yahoo's NHL page, Puck Daddy said there correspondant in Russia said he lost his breath after contact with Jagr, went back to the bench, and his heart just stopped. Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 Wow. Horrible, horrible news for the world of hockey. Another young player stolen from the hockey world Hopefully this tragic event will help push the cause for external defibrillators further forward. At this point I just can't see the excuse not to have them at every sports facility. They should be factored into the cost of the building like fire extinguishers and smoke alarms. Guest CaliWingsNut Report post Posted October 13, 2008 (edited) tsn reports something along the lines of the coach saying he saw nothing that could have caused this occuring on the ice. Edit: second paragraph of current tsn news story. Omsk head coach, Wayne Fleming said Cherepanov collapsed on the bench during the third period of the game and did not see anything that happened on the ice that may have contributed to it.
