GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted November 26, 2008 Damn, the Notre Dame basketball team sure is making the whole football disaster a little less painful. I really like this team - Harangody dominating the paint and McAlarney shooting the lights out. Tory Jackson is a hell of a point guard too. For one of the first times in my life, the Irish basketball team is better and more exciting to me than the football team. I wasn't sure ND was a legit top ten team in the preseason polls, but I think they just might be afterall. Nice win against a good Texas team tonight, and a chance to make a major statement tomorrow against North Carolina. It's also amazing that the Irish are ranked 8th nationally and are quite possibly the 4th best team in their own conference. The Big East is a basketball juggernaut this year especially. I am really looking forward to this season. The schedule is brutal, but it will be great preparation for March. Hell, anything to get my mind off the ensuing beatdown to USC this weekend works for me. Go Irish!

mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted November 28, 2008 That. *******. Sucked. Yes it did! I'm pissed now we have to play Maryland! Thought they were going to be down this year! I can't help but to love Harangody. Love the way he plays the game. Never understood why Tommy Amaker's dumbass put no heat on Tory Jackson. He wanted to come here, yet Amaker turns to bums like Jerret Smith, and K'Len Morris, who both play for GVSU now.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted December 1, 2008 Yes it did! I'm pissed now we have to play Maryland! Thought they were going to be down this year! Heavens no. Maryland's got some nasty good guards. If Michigan beats them, Sims will probably have to have a stat line of like 35/20, because they're not so good down low. Manny's good and all but he's only one guy. Maryland's got some of the best backcourt depth in the ACC.
BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted December 1, 2008 Big Ten/ACC slaughter...err...challenge time again. Here's the line up. Monday, Dec. 1 Wisconsin at Virginia Tech Tuesday, Dec. 2 Duke at Purdue Clemson at Illinois Ohio State at Miami Virginia at Minnesota Iowa at Boston College Wednesday, Dec. 3 North Carolina vs. Michigan State (from Ford Field) Indiana at Wake Forest Michigan at Maryland Florida State at Northwestern Penn State at Georgia Tech Duke/Purdue and UNC/MSU are a couple of huge games. Splitting those two would be big time for the conference. Purdue has the better shot. MSU is hurt and UNC is a better team than Duke anyway. I don't know enough about the ACC to try to accurately predict the games, so I won't bother. Just hope the Big 10 can keep it close.
mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted December 2, 2008 ^^^I root for every Big Ten team even OSU/MSU during this event. It is so lop sided. I would really love to see the Big Ten take it home sometime, but I doubt this year will be any different. Michigan plays Maryland, and then Duke during the next week. A split would be quite something, but probably wishful thinking.

Yes they did in the Coaches vs. Cancer tourney finals. 2nd time in 15 days. Big Ten 1 - ACC 0. Wisconsin beat Va Tech in a thriller.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted December 2, 2008 Even though my alma mater is an ACC school, I'm pulling for the Big Ten just so they don't pull the plug on this, because I happen to like it. Predictions: Duke over Purdue Clemson over Illinois Miami over Ohio State Minnesota over Virginia Iowa over Boston College North Carolina over Michigan State Wake Forest over Indiana Maryland over Michigan Florida State over Northwestern Penn State over Georgia Tech Big Ten keeps it even after the first day of games (not counting tonight) but the ACC runs away with it on the second day. Potential slaughters: WF over IU, Iowa over BC, Miami over OSU.
mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted December 2, 2008 Has anyone watched IU play this season? I feel horrible for them because the basketball is so bad. It's nothing against Crean, because I think he is going to be a success there, but he is just in a horrible situation because of Sampson cheating.

mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted December 4, 2008 Maryland is a good team, but I thought U-M really blew it. I really can't believe U-M has made so much progress though. I said from the start we got a really good coach, and it is already showing even though he's using a bunch of Turtleneck players.....
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted December 4, 2008 Good point. It's like drinking a bunch of Irish Coffee to see which drug wins, the caffeine or the alcohol. All I know is this: alcohol firebombs sugar in the end, and you're the one coming out like Dresden. So I don't like the caffeine in that matchup.
BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted December 4, 2008 Holy s***, we got jailsexed last night. And I saw the one thing that frustrates me more than anything about college basketball. The refs let both teams play in the first half, and then in the second half started calling all the ticky tack fouls. I hate that. Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming the refs for MSU's loss at all. The Spartans' inability to make a shot in the second half did that. Coupled with the fact that UNC is an incredibly awesome basketball team. But the refs turned what was a fun game to watch into the typical, unwatchable basketball game I see way too often.
mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted December 5, 2008 Is Sutton actually missed that much? I hear this a lot, and really didn't know what to think of that. I would think MSU would be fine with former HS studs in Herzog, Roe, Green, and I guess it's also possible Gray could move there too like U-M does with Simms sometimes. Not saying this was an excuse why they lost to UNC, because well UNC is just the truth...period.

mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted December 7, 2008 What a game, what game! The old U-M basketball would have thrown in the towel by being down 20 to Savanah State, never get a sniff of UCLA at the Garden, and probably would have folded under pressure against Duke. Duke has only lost TWO non conference games in December this decade. Still don't know about dancing this year, but the improvement made from year 1 to 2 has been incredible. Plus Lavel Lucas Perry arrives in a couple weeks. Again, what a game!!!

I could honestly see a perfect season out of these guys. Anyone who loses to them by nine or less should consider it a moral victory. All five of their starters could have jumped to the NBA last year, and their bench would still be good enough to earn a single-digit seed in the NCAAs. I will be completely shocked if anyone but UNC is the national champs. These guys are the best collection of talent on a college team since I don't know when. It's ridiculous how good they are. If they can avoid any bad losses in the next four games before the Big Ten season starts, a tournament berth will be theirs with a .500 season in the conference. Bring on Sparty! Only one game this year and it's at Crisler.
