Lilja back and McCarty debuts

Malts wont be out, he's been playing better then ever, why scratch him? I think it'll be Kopecky or maybe even Hudler. I like that Mac and Lilja are back in though, should have a little more hitting tonight. I think it's stupid that Meech gets bumped while Lebda continues to get games when he just doesnt deserve it.

Lebda remind anyone of Aaron Ward at all in some aspects?

Glad to see Lilja back and wonder if McCarty will have some jump tonight.

What is it that Maltby brings to this team that someone else can't. Pleases don't say leadership and experience because this team's cup ( no pun intended) is overflowing with both w/o Maltby in the line up.

Physical play, defensive awareness, penalty killing. I want Mac back in the line-up, but taking out Maltby makes no sense. Kopecky hasnt been providing... anything. But people still defend him, until he shows me something, i dont see a need for him in the line-up over McCarty, Maltby, Helm or Downey.

Getting off topic, I'm glad Lilja is back in tonight, the PK should be a bit better. And hopefully he mops the floor with Patrick Sharp again tonight, would be great to see

Helm and Abdelkader bring both of those things. My point is that Maltby isn't as fast or as sharp as he used to be. He isn't even in the top five of PK on this team. Why not scratch him? At least Kopecky uses his size from time to time. Maltby is at best a middle of the road defensive forward on this team, a non threat on offense, and not the pest who can draw penalties like he used to. Let him watch from the press box instead of taking 7 mins a game away from someone else.

Yeah, but if you have been paying close attention this year, thus far... Maltby has been more physical and antagonistic than he has beeen in the past few years. We need that on our 4th line, Maltby provides it. McCarty will be in for Kopecky.... They won't bench Hudler, if you remember, he had a pretty damn good pass to Zetterberg for his first goal last night.

It is so good to have Lilja back tonight. Lebda and Meech were a disaster as a defensive pairing. That being said, Meech should be playing on the third pairing with Lilja now. Lebda has been awful and his turnovers are really excessive. I still don't know what Lebda provides that Meech doesn't. Lebda has been the worst player on the team to this point.

I am hoping Kopecky will be the forward out tonight. I highly doubt Maltby is going to be scratched as long as he is with the Red Wings. I can't see Hudler being scratched either because it doesn't make sense to bump Kopecky or Maltby up to the third line in Hudler's spot. Kopecky hasn't done anything to warrant him being the 12th forward on a nightly basis.

I am one of the bigger Maltby haters on this board, but his play in my eyes keep him playing. Why do people defend Kope? I have seen him get hit more than he has hit, he does NOTHING out there, he is a PYLON. He may check one person a game, maybe, but it still doesn't take away that he sucks defensively and always has his head down. Get Helm to take his spot, or McCarty, or even Downey. Maltby has been solid this season, and deserves to keep his spot.

agreed. maltby looks better now than he has in a very long time and for all everyone goes on about him he isnt hurting the team and face it, he isnt going anywhere. kopecky has sucked a whole lot and i dont even see him throwing the body around. he knows his role but doesnt seem to care, the guy just skates around for 45 seconds without touching the puck and then goes and takes up space on the bench. trade him.

You're picking a terrible time to rag on Maltby. Hes been bringing his game this year. In recent years past, you wouldnt even notice him out there. As of now, hes playing with more physicality and energy than anyone else on the 4th line. Hell, I'd take Malts over Drapes right now and Kopay is a no brainer.

The 4th line in general hasn't been good this year. Maltby has been ok this year, but I really don't think that he has been anything special. A 4th liner is a 4th liner unless they bring something else to the table, (PK) any of them are expendable. Draper brings top 6 PK forward. Kopy brings size. (maybe sometime he will use it) Maltby brings being the most consistent on an un-cohesive 4th line logging very few mins a night. That is why I'm down on him and want to see Mac in his spot.

My mouth has been foaming all day at the anticipation of this fight. Also, Eager will probably try to challenge McCarty.

Lilja was unnoticeable.. which for him, is a GOOD thing. It probably means he blocked a fair share of shots and didn't make any horrible gaffs.

McCarty didn't do anything spectacular, but he did generate a couple offensive chances, and made some crucial clears and neutral zone checks. I wasn't displeased with his performance.

Lebda has been stinky, though. I'd like to see Babs try Lilja/Meech.. give Lebda some motivation to earn his spot.
