Opie 308 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 (edited) Yahoo Linky So I searched the board, and looked through the first 2 pages of titles and found nothing on this, which weirded me out!! Sergei Fedorov set the NHL goals record for Russian-born players, and countryman Alexander Semin scored at 2:17 of overtime as the Capitals snapped a three-game losing streak with a 6-5 victory over the Dallas Stars on Saturday night. Fedorov scored twice to give him 475 goals for his career, breaking a tie with Alexander Mogilny (473), who retired in 2006. “It’s just a record,” Fedorov said. “I’d rather talk about Alex than the record. I know his career was shortened by injury. I didn’t expect to ever get it. He had a great shot and amazing hands. Realistically, if he’d played more he’d have a lot more stats. He was a powerful forward, a scoring machine.” EDIT: OOPS, meant to say congrats Feds!!! Edited October 27, 2008 by Opie

vangvace 12 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 Congrats to him. Surprised there isn't 4 threads about this. (Even if it was 1 line buried in a game recap)
GoalieManPat 1,007 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 I heard Fedorov kicks babies. We should boo him for that.

alowicious 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 Giving props to Mogilny was a classy move. I'm happy Feds has found a fit in Washington. I agree, pretty damn classy. Congrats Feds! I don't get the whole booing thing when Feds takes the ice here. I understand fans are disappointed, but come on, he was a huge part of our Stanley Cup runs! Opie 308 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 If only Bure kept playing and didn't get injured. I agree 100% both Bure and Moginly had their careers cut short by injury, but Bure, man that guy was going to score an amazing number of goals, he was a goal scoring machine. Bure was amazing, but he had 2 major problems: 1. He played like a big man and he wasn't. 2. He had one gear. 5th gear. I swear he used the end boards to slow down. I've been saying the same thing about Ovechkin. AO has the luxury of having a big frame, but man if he doesn't learn to pick his moments of intensity he's going to kill his body before he's 30. Oveckin should play with the same effort as Robert Lang. Then he can play till he's 40 no problem.
WingsFan2008 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 (edited) Exactly. Oveckin should play with the same effort as Robert Lang. Then he can play till he's 40 no problem. Why must you go to extremes? The point was that AO should dial down the intensity when it's called for. It's called "career management". Edited October 27, 2008 by WingsFan2008

akustyk 84 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 congrats Sergei! I wish Igor Larionov was let out from Russia in his primes and had an opportunity to play in the NHL. he could easily beat this mark with his skill and work ethics

LeftWinger 5,154 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 Congrats to Sergei but I have a feeling he may not hold the record for too long. Mr. Ovechkin may get there fairly quickly. ...nobody started a thread because why do it when all you are going to hear is how Sergei sucks, he doesn't deserve to be in the Hall or the rafters, blah blah blah, ALL FROM SOUR FANS!!!! ...Ovechkin will NEVER be Fedorov because he will never be as complete as Fedorov. He may one day score more points (if he doesn't bolt for the KHL where the money is and there is no Cap) but he will NEVER get a Selke and and will NEVER win 3 Stanley Cups. Even if Bure and Mogilney went uninjured, they too would have NEVER won a Selke or 3 Cups... ...Sergei Fedorov is absolutely THE Greatest Russian to ever play in the NHL. He deserves every accoloade he receives, he WILL be in the Hall of Fame and, like it or not (especially since he scored most of his points (including 400 goals) with Detroit) have #91 retired by the Detroit Red Wings... ...of course the above statement may also be why a lot of people didn't start a topic on this, but denying the truth doesn't make it less true, they're just bitter fans who secretly wish he never left and will ALL have the TIVO going the night #91 goes up in the rafters... If he dials down his intensity, then Ovechkin will lose much of his magic. His energy and effort is why he's great. Otherwise, he'll be labeled as another unmotivated Euro who just wants money and stats.
