shoe 165 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 I would like to see some minor changes. Id like to see an old man on the team sort of like last years Drake. Someone like Peca or dare I say Roberts? (hey he brings fire) I havn't heard any Shanahan talk lately he would be an interesting grab around the trade deadline for any team, far better than a Claude Lemieux experiment if you ask me. Id also like to see them aquire a goaltender who has been around for a long time that would be sent to the minors. If Osgood or Conklin went down id rather have a veteran goaltender back them up instead Jimmy Howard IN THE PLAYOFFS. I think this team can do without Kopecky they did fine without him last year in the playoffs. Id be willing to let go of Meech as well to make something happen to get a veteran forward. VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 To be honest, I wasn't sure I wanted last years team to be seen in last years playoffs prior to the start. They looked shaky. Of course, my inner fan never doubted, but they looked far from perfect, so I'm comfortable with this Wings team going into the playoffs, though obviously improvements have to be made. I guess I just have faith that they can turn it on like a switch like they did last year during the playoffs.
GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 Of course not. Our defense and goaltending sucks right now, and we're giving up way too many goals to even be sure about making it out of the 1st round. As for the players, a few changes are always made to every roster throughout the season, so I'm sure that Holland won't sit around and do nothing. I wouldn't do anything major, but getting a few grinders on the 3rd and 4th line as well as one more physical D-man in some kind of trade wouldn't be a bad idea in my mind. The cap will unfortunately make any kind of trade hard to pull off.
IceMunkee 15 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 I would rather see the Wings then the Blue jackets. That's just me though.
Guest Shoreline Report post Posted December 9, 2008 (edited) f*** no. If this is the team that goes into the playoffs it's staring at an early, embarrassing exit. I don't care if the Wings make zero changes on the ice/roster, I just want to see the fundamentals from the same team that won the friggen cup improve. Rice 42 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 This roster can win the Cup -- but the way they're playing now they'd lose in the second round.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 Well, if the question is "Can this line up win the Cup?" which it is, then yes. They already won the Cup, and they're better than ever. If it were "Can this level of play win the Cup?" that'd be a big ol' no.
Doc Holiday 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 If you are asking me to follow the Sharks, no thank you. "It's those damn Sharks, they're so hot right now."
Chunkylover 26 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 Yes this is the team I want to see go into the playoffs. I just don't want them playing this way. It's the same team that went to the Cup last year less Drake and Hasek. The Drake was a very important role player, but I can't see exchanging him with Hossa as a step backward. I actually think they're bored of these "meaningless" regular season games.
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 If the playoffs were to start today, we'd face the Wild in the first round, win it in 6, then lose to the Canucks or Ducks in round 2.
Barrie 900 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 Considering we're at the Cap, this will probably be the team that we'll see go into the playoffs, and I don't really have a problem with that.
hokeychik22 17 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 not quite sure yet. the wings are slowly getting their feet/skating back. Give it til the end of the month and I think we should be pretty good, or i hope so. We need better goaltending and the D need to step it up some more. hate to say it but Lilja is best i've seen recently on d.
servo 15 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 F*&* NO! Not unless we want a 1st or a second round exit. Record aside, the GAA has to decrease and the defence needs to tighten up. This team is no where near peaking. The future is BRIGHT!!
soultrain 43 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 i would like the d-men to stop doing the typical detroit collapse. but i love our team. there is some much talent in the organization.
DYags 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 I want Helm for Maltby. I want to see what Ericsson can do before the playoffs. Ideally, he out performs lebs/lilja and takes one of their spots.
DYags 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 Considering we're at the Cap, this will probably be the team that we'll see go into the playoffs, and I don't really have a problem with that. Cap issues dissapear once the regular season comes to an end. Anyone can be called up.

Bluedevils_13 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 I think we just need to maybe get the right chemistry of lines first. Just think what this team would look like with a fourth line of Helm-Draper-Abdelkader than Kopecky-Draper-Maltby, hell just even Helm in for Kopecky sounds cool. I could honestly see Kopecky getting traded at the deadline, or after the season, to make room for Helm. I think maybe mixing our D lines too. I have always wanted to see Nick, and Nik together. No, not at all. Nicely stated by all three of you. Unless for whatever reason the team's record just really falls in the crapper, very little/nothing needs tweaking in terms of roster moves or huge gigantic trades at the trading deadline when people either act in panic mode or want to do something just for the sake of doing it. Improved play, despite the very solid record, over roster changes is what needs to be the focus
BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 No. Something has to change. They have to get better defensively or they won't last long in the playoffs. Teams do not historically win Stanley Cups, at least not in the past 20 years or so, with a GAA that doesn't even crack the top ten in the league. Only the '91 and '92 Penguins teams have done it. Their goal differential isn't anything special, either. The Blackhawks have a better goal differential than the Wings do at this point (thanks in part to a 7-1 drubbing of Phoenix, but still). The Wings have played worse than their record. It's reasonable to conclude they're only playing well enough to win, but again, throughout recent NHL history, teams that are crappy defensively throughout an NHL season come up short in the playoffs. Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 It's the same team that won the Cup last year, as someone said minus Hasek and Drake and plus Conklin and Hossa. Not too bad of a tradeoff. But the defense needs to get it together, and the goaltending needs to put a streak together to regain confidence.
OsGOD 3 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 18-4-4 yeah i would take that anyday going into the playoffs same team as last year minus the most important part... Sir Dallas, but Hossa is a great replacement.
Opie 308 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 (edited) If Babs line up changes spark a 5 game run of 4-2, 4-1, 5-2, 4-3, 3-0, do any of you change your mind? The question isn't can this team win in the playoffs playing this kind of uninspired hockey, it is (as I perceived it) do be about the roster and the need for change. This team will have the drive in the post season, you don't think they will want to win it for Hossa the way they did Drake? Hell you don't think Lids wants 5 as bad as he did 4. Did Bill Russell stop after 10, no he won one for the toe, just kidding but he does have 11. This team will be fine, the record they have puts them in the spot where they don't have to press as hard once Babs gets them playing hard. The OP had a good question, do you want this roster in the postseason so I say YES. Edited December 9, 2008 by Opie
