I don't blame him. Unbelievably disrespectful what the Tampa Bay management did to him. Didn't even give the guy a chance, and they're doing worse since they let him go. If Tampa Bay management put more attention in building a team and less on marketing the first round failure, they might not be having this problem.

Can't say I disagree with him on this one; probably the most brutally honest comment was that Stamkos wasn't anywhere near ready for the NHL

I think the Lightning should give him (Stamkos) a full season. I'm not taking Melrose's comments seriously because he's obviously just pissed the Lightning let him go in an embarrassing fashion. Unfair, but that's how they do business. Clearly this wasn't Melrose's fault. He should have known the extreme difficulties of a first year coach coming to a "contender" built on FA/trades and having everything mesh for a cup win.

I have been likeing Melrose more and more over the past year; though that does not make him a good coach.

They were dumb in hiring him and even worse in their firing of him. I kind of feel bad for the fans over there, to go from a Cup winner to such a dismal offering so quickly.

The constant ebb and flow of this forum is a joke. When they hired Melrose, it was "f*** Melrose", when they fired Melrose, it was "f*** Melrose"...now it's poor Barry? how disrespectful of Tampa?

Melrose is a joke and I'm sure he'll be right back on EPSN hating on the Wings' as soon as he can. At that point, the forum crowd will inevitably shift back to "f*** Melrose" again... you guys are a trip

that being said, i have never liked melrose, and i still don't, but taking the fact that it's him out of the equation and just looking at the situation, it's obvious that tampa is just finding every whichway to screw themselves over. and, as a coach in that situation, it has to be really frustrating being put in a situation where you have a bunch of miscellaneous free agents and not really being given a chance to make it work. and as others have pointed out, they're doing worse without him.

Just because most of us think he is a goofy bastard who probably still sleeps with Patrick Roy sheets on his bed doesn't mean we enjoy watching him get sh*t on and embarassed professionally.

Yeah. I just don't get Tampa's direction here. Why spend the money to create a cup challenging team then run roughshod over the coach and his system before it even has a chance to mold with the players. Maybe they just want another high draft pick with a superstar roster.

My point is valid whether you attempt to throw a clever response at it or not. No self-respecting Red Wings fan should feel any sympathy for Melrose or his current plight, this guy has done nothing but spew Anti-Red Wings koolaid for years. Mr "I picked against the Red Wings in every playoff series, in every round, every year, forever" should shut his mouth.

Well, I guess that's how our opinions differ then, I for one enjoy seeing Melrose embarrassed in any forum available, although "professionally" is debatable since Melrose would have to be a professional at something other than hating Detroit to qualify.

I don't really blame him. Whether he was ultimately to blame for being fired just 16 games in or Tampa Bay mgmt. were just incompetent giving him the shaft to early is entirely subjective and is an endless debate, but if I were in his shoes I'd feel a little bit sour as well getting the axe way early in the game, even if my coaching methods weren't quite working well yet.

I hate Barry Melrose, but I hate hockey organizations that screw over their fans by making poor decisions that affect the on-ice product a lot more. I guess I'll stick with the lesser of two evils.
