Antilles328 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2008 How many 1 goal games are they going to have by the end of the year. Maybe they are focusing on late game rallies. They've already figured out how to do everything else. Hopefully, next year will be the fighting practice season. Datsyuk is growing a little vicious streak. Datsyuk is learning how and when to step into some nice body checks. I think he has the best hits of the year so far.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted December 11, 2008 That's crazy enough to make sense. The whole season is just a giant practice for the Wings because they'er too damn good at everything else.
Guest Shoreline Report post Posted December 11, 2008 Between late game rallies / close games and late game chokes, I'll take late game rallies / close games.

XxGoWingsxX 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2008 To be honest, i wouldn't be surprised if there is some kind of strategy to their play right now....do only what you have to , to get the wings early in the season...then towards the end step it up and head into the playoffs with little to no major injuries. This way come playoff time when its time to give it everything they have...they still have very much left in the tank
scotzman 29 Report post Posted December 11, 2008 Sounds like a silly strategy... if you suggested that to Babcock, I think he might kick you in the nut-sack.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted December 11, 2008 Sorry folks, they aren't that good. They've been sloppy, yes. But each team that comes to play us knows they're playing a proven Stanley cup champion team, so they're bringing everything they got, most likely preparing for games against us several games ahead of time. The good news is they can play half-assed for 45 minutes against most other teams' A game, and rally in the last 15 minutes and call it a night. That won't happen against San Jose, Montreal, or the other elite teams, though, so they definitely have work to do.
jjd06e 10 Report post Posted December 11, 2008 I bet a few of you are Pistons fans, this reminds me of how the Pistons were after they won their title. The we are better than everyone, we can just turn on a switch at the end of games and win attitude. It didnt work too well for the pistons, lets just see if it works better for the Wings
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted December 11, 2008 This quote from Babcock last night basically sums up what I've been saying about the Wings for the past 25 games or so: "Sometimes when you're a skilled team, you get so caught up in being skilled, you forget to work, to win the races, to win the battles," said Babcock, who got his 250th career NHL victory. "Your skill doesn't come out."

CdnWingsFanEh 2 Report post Posted December 12, 2008 (edited) Ok, but shouldn't he play the ZDH line every now and then just to give them a little playing time together? Not every night, but once in a while? As an aside, I liked seeing Z, and Hossa together... well babs was quoted saying he isn't going with the ZDH line becuase he knows that works... so yeah this is all dress reherasal for the big dance in 5 months Edited December 12, 2008 by CdnWingsFanEh
Booster313 138 Report post Posted December 12, 2008 The Red Wings will make the playoffs. That is a given. That being said they would prefer to be playing closer to form for most of the year. Clearly offense isn't the issue this year, we need to tighten up our defense and we better goaltending. It's nothing that we can't fix between now and April. That being said No I don't think the Wings are attempting to give up leads to practice coming back in the third.

SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted December 12, 2008 I highly doubt they are trying to dilly around out there for grins and humor. I don't like the whole Stanley Cup hangover/less motivated because you already won mentality bit, but on the other side of the coin there because you won it all, the other team is going to give you their best effort at least just about every game. Games will probably be more competitive for the Wings this year compared to the last few, at least in terms of opponent intensity/want.

Sure it's not the outcome us Wings fans are looking for, we'd much rather them WIN game 7. But still not a terrible follow-up season. Z Winged Dangler 2,082 Report post Posted December 12, 2008 the wings have been playing like it's pond hockey this year. while it's fun to watch...it's scary i guess. and it seems like most of the people on this site agree. dress rehearsal for the playoffs or not, things need to be tighter. but hey...there's still 5 more months of that dress rehearsal
