Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted December 19, 2008 (edited) DAMN it was good to see everyone play well for 60 mins. Not just playing well- but playing Red Wings Hockey. Lidstrom was a Norris winning defenseman in his own end, not too suprising as his play has been trending back up to his regular level- with only his scoring yet to get back up there. Lilja and Stewart had fantastic games. Lilja is really, really playing well right now. Zetterberg was about as good as you can be without picking up a point. Conks got to play behind the team he signed up for- the best defensive team in the NHL (as opposed to the Wings that'd shown up for every other game this season aside from the last shut-out). Red Wings Hockey. Let's see more of that. Edit: Haha- I forgot to mention that my boy Pavel had a pretty decent game tonight too. And unlike Malkin he didn't need a ***** empty net goal to get his 4 points tonight. Edited December 19, 2008 by Drake_Marcus

Matt 1,049 Report post Posted December 19, 2008 I think you could sense a huge weight being lifted of the Red Wings' shoulders when they got that weak goal from Franzen. The tentative play of the club through the first period completely disappeared from that point on and the Sharks were totally kept on their heels. Anyone remember a genuine odd-man rush for the Sharks? I don't. When's the last time we can claim we saw a game this season when the Wings haven't given at least one of those up? egroen 384 Report post Posted December 19, 2008 That was not an A game from the Sharks but the Wings took advantage of it like they should have and never let their skate up from tha Shark's neck. Awesome, awesome game. Man, I feel great.

Anyone remember a genuine odd-man rush for the Sharks? I don't. When's the last time we can claim we saw a game this season when the Wings haven't given at least one of those up? Oh yeah- Franzen's goal was definitely the turning point. It was like an instant momentum shift... Man oh man this game was great. We've been waiting 30 games to see them play like they are capable of playing. I love that we've played 2 games against the Sharks- one on their ice with our boys coming off a hard-fought game the night before, and the other with the Sharks ending a back to back in our rink. The result? A close loss to the Sharks in our back to back and a dominating win over the Sharks in their back to back. I'd say the season series is tipped in the Wings favour at this point. Hopefully the Sharks come back down to Earth now... no one is safe from a slump in the new NHL
CrossoverThrash 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2008 Wow they completely dominated, even though the Sharks were coming off a game yesterday 6-
mjlegend 155 Report post Posted December 19, 2008 We all know this Red Wings team is capable of playing some really dominating hockey. It really couldn't have come on a better night.

Guest Shoreline Report post Posted December 19, 2008 Enjoying this win tonight. Just hope the Wings can continue. They were finishing checks, they were playing hard, they were playing defensively sound (the fundamentals were great after the Sharks main onslaught in the 1st, where the Wings were extremely vulnerable). I just hope this isn't just held to teams on the ass end of a back to back. Looking forward to what should be a few easier games, then a good challenge next weekend. HomeNugget 2 Report post Posted December 19, 2008 I had to work and missed the entire game. I couldn't believe the score when I saw it. I watched the Blackhawks embarrass the Oilers the other night and was thinking to myself that the Wings need to do that to someone this year. I never thought it would come against the Sharks. TheUkrainian 49 Report post Posted December 19, 2008 Hopefully this closes the chapter of the Cup-Hangover/lazy/sloppy Wing and picks back up from where we left off last year, except with Hossa and Conks of course

Nev 1,085 Report post Posted December 19, 2008 I take it all the panic mongers around here have crawled back into their panic cave for a couple of days at least!! Well, one swallow doesn't make a summer. They need to start playing like that on a regular basis before we can officially say the 07-08 Wings are back. But it does go to show just what they are capable of when they can be bothered

b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted December 19, 2008 (edited) I bet the rest of the league felt the same way when they saw the score too. "Oh s***, its waking up!" lets hope so. GO WINGS! Also figures that on a night that Pavel gets 2g, 2a, +4, two players get hat-tricks and a Pens' version of Russian superstar's 4 pt night somehow trumps the Wings' Russian superstar's 4 pt night to give him the 2nd star of the night honor, eventho the Pens' beat the Thrashers and the Wings beat the top team in the league. Explain that one to me... Edited December 19, 2008 by b.shanafan14
