You were suggesting if the Canadian players played "this way" in the NHL around goalies, someone would kick their ass? Isn't it? I'm saying the goalie is embellishing it and it's not that bad at all.

It doesn't really matter if he's Canadian, Swedish or Turkish. All I was saying was that if this happened in the NHL, no matter nationality, not just once, but twice, someone would have to throw down the gloves. It doesn't really matter if he's embellishing - you just don't do that kind of stuff to a goalie without suitable response. And if you don't agree with that last part then I don't really see a reason for arguing with you.

Sweden's power play = epic fail.

That's exactly what I wrote to a friend of mine on MSN :D. I think the environment is really stifling the Swedish players while the Canadians are thriving.

In the NHL this kind of stuff would provoke real fighting.

I think the Swedish goalie is being a little baby, it's not Canada's fault when he runs into the path of a Canadian player (homer bias possibly), and we're getting the brunt of the penalties, similar to how the Wings get all the penalties up by 2. Mind you, legitimate calls being called against Canada, but there's been a bunch of missed calls on the Swedes. A certain goalie interference call should have been called for one.

Sweden was out of their element right off the start, and that's why they're down.

If this happened in the NHL, that goalie would have a cloud over his head for a good 5 years after the game and he'd have a reputation as a flopper. It would be on TSN's highlight reel the entire week, people would laugh about it. Sure, a fight might break out in the game because someone on "his team" might think they have to respond, but the boys on the "other team" would be more than happy to oblige ;)

To keep the conversation pleasant I think we should just skip the penalty thing, agreed? :)

The other two I agree with fully.

Classy play that period Canada. And you're booing Markstrom? That guy has been run over, what, 4 times now?

I can't remember seeing anything like this before.. and yes, Markstrom is making it look worse than it is (just like every goalie in the world always does, because you just SHOULDN'T run over the goaltender). And then you boo Hedman for defending his goaltender.. something EVERY DEFENDER in the world also SHOULD do.

Too bad the refs let this game go out of control when they didn't call Esposito when he first took down Markstrom. Figures that he scored the 2-0 goal moments later as well.

Canada is playing good, better than Sweden (those PP's..) and deserve the lead, but I just can't feel anything but resent for a team that plays like they do even when they have a lead, and at home too.

Are you saying this goalie on Sweden isn't embellishing every time a Canadian player comes near him?

To some extent; yes he was. But to point that out while not pointing out that he got ran into at full speed at one of these occasions and literally got hit at another, is pretty much the definition of ignorance.

4-1 with 1 min to go, deserved W for Canada. Excellent D and PP. Sweden with a good effort but they makes it too hard for themselves, never reaches their top potential. Like I said, verry happy for reaching the finals in any case.

Disgraceful to run the goalie like that though. It's one thing to be hard nosed and gritty...but running the goalie, that's just dirty. And the refs cannot seem to stand up and avert it.

Markstrom flops around like Hasek, except without all that pesky puck-stopping ability. And Hedman played like he had eggs in his hands that he didn't want to break. Really disappointed in how he played.

Same time, next year? :)

The goalie didn't do himself any favours, either. He looked like a fish out of water.

Swedes best in the world to be lousy when its matters the most™

Yay, there's a medal for that too!?

No sympathy at SVT tough, facewashing the poor players with microphones just seconds after they've lost the final. What the hell do they expect them to say at that point?

Will be fun to watch olympics next year and the embarassing little mistakes that juniors tend to do every game is not there...while its fun to watch junior games you get pissed off as well because they are just kids and in the learning process but many times its embarassing... you go like GIVE ME PROPER HOCKEY PLEASE.

Markstrom embelished alot, is it just me or did his mask come off really easily.

LoL he's just doing exactly what the dude on your avatar is doing, it's not just markstrom.. overplay the situation a bit to get advantage and stand your ground
