12Newf 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 okay so lets not get into the all-star game because thats just too easy but im so sick of habs fans acting like their team has a shot in hell of winning the cup. they dont have a true #1 centre, carey price sucked in the playoffs last year, kovalev is a bum...the list just goes on and there are soo many holes in their lineup. is it just me? i feel like boston, philly, washington, pittsburgh (if they even make the playoffs), hell maybe even the leafs would beat these guys in a seven game series. just about anyone in the east really. maybe its this seemingly endless 2 year celebration of their centennial thats got me annoyed and feeling extra hostile but i just dont see it, are they as overrated as i think? The Mule 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 No, I do not agree with you. The Canadiens are a very fast, skilled team who have already beaten us this year. While I don't think they are up to par with San Jose, Boston, or us, I do think they should be considered a legitimate contender this season. It's easy to call a team overrated when they've been battling key injuries for almost the entire first half of the season. It's even easier to realize this, and still take notice of the fact that they are sitting on a 25-11-6 record.
Zion 93 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 The Western Conference is superior, so unless the Wings are upset (in which case the West loses in game 7 of the SCF) and Anaheim can bore us into a SCF victory, the West wins. Again.

NYR? remember im talking about playoff time, so a 7 game series.
Never_Retire_Steve 35 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 I strongly disagree, they were #1 in the East last year and have a very deep and skilled team this year. No real holes as far as I can see, I could easily see them in the Cup finals this year, winning it is another question.
theman19 47 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 until carey price can exorcise his playoff demons i don't see this team going far. The fact he played subpar last year was quickly swept under the rug, but i doubt his opponents forgot.

Yak19 303 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 (edited) I put Boston and New Jersey ahead of Montreal at this point in the season. They will choke again in the playoffs despite having a nice season, Habs are done in the 2nd round. Edited January 15, 2009 by Yak19

As for the rest of the teams, I think they are on par with the Capitals and Flyers, but a better team than the Rangers and Devils.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 Definitely overrated. It's been forever since they made it to the Conference Finals, yet everyone keeps praising them like this group has won multiple Cups or something like that. Last year they were physically manhandled by Philly, and they weren't tough enough to respond physically or mentally. Also, Price was horrendous in that series. Along with Boston, they're gonna have to prove something in the playoffs before I exalt them in my mind.
cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 The media will prey on any team with a weakness and in Montreal they are always looking for the least little bit of blood. Remember how everybody used to attack the goaltending of the DRW (correction: a lot still do)? There have been too many examples to list here, but Tim Cheveldae comes to mind. In Montreal, its times worse, because they all want the next "saviour" in goalie pads to be the next Patrick Roy. Plus, everyone second guesses the Club's choice for head coach. There's a few with "former Montreal Head Coach" as part of their bio. Prior to the start of the 2008 Playoffs, TSN had two "pundits" square off, as to the teams with the best chance to win in the postseason. The sports writer, who took up the cause for the Western Conference, the made this statement at the end of the piece: "The Eastern Conference has the better players, but the Western Conference has the better teams, and better teams win in the playoffs". Hank 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 (edited) I've thought this since they 'shocked' the NHL last year with their good season. That team is completely dependent on their PP. Sure, the whole league is about special teams but no team relies more on their odd-man opportunities than the Habs. When they're on a slump everyone says "what's going on with the Habs?". But all you have to do is look at their slumping PP and figure it out. Other teams have found ways to win when their special teams are tanking but the Habs live and die with them. And Kovalev is an idiot too. When he decides to play hard, he could be the best offensive player in the league. But he rarely puts in an effort in back-to-back games. And even rarer has he put in back-to-back seasons. The Habs won't do crap in this years playoffs. Edited January 15, 2009 by Hank
stactum 4 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 Despite they having pretty good season I think they'll choke in the playoffs, also their record so far is good, but they didn't play whole lot of games agains western conference teams, they played only 7 games (5-1-1), while Washington played 14 (6-8-0) and still have more points. My playoff contention tiers look like that: Top Tier: SJS, DET, BOS Medium: WAS, CHI, ANA, PHI, CAL The Rest: other playoff teams

The Secret 304 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 First off I f'ing hate the Habs almost as much as I hate the Leafs. I've been living in Montreal for almost 2 years now and I hear day in and day out how the Wings suck and the Habs are the greatest team off all time. Oh, and because it's their 100 year anniversary they apparently will win the Cup...It's been arranged. Hahahaha, there are those here who believe that. Anyway, I think they have a decent team and thats about it, there are some strong points about their team but definately 2 things I call into question is their desire and their consistency. It's been pointed out that they are only as good as their PP. My feeling is that they don't have enough to go all the way, there are way better teams out there. Who the hell riots after barely winning the first round of the playoffs... retarded Habs fans, thats who. Man, I would LOVE to see The Wings crush the Habs in the SCF, that would be a dream come true for me... did I mention that I Hate the Habs! GO WINGS!
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 I saw the ASG lineup, and from all the talk abuot the Canadiens I thought they were doing amazing, then I go look at the standings and they're 4th or 5th in their Conference? That's worse than they were last year. A step back is an improvement how? They have some talent, and could be a dangerous team, but this particular regular season, I just don't see what's so amazing about them.

ltgator333 3 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 (edited) Watched most of Habs vs. Bruins the other night and they seemed ok against them but I think Boston can play better. Yeah, overrated slightly. Edited January 15, 2009 by ltgator333

Lovin Jiri Fischer 147 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 (edited) The whole Eastern Conference in general is overrated. My high school team would have an amazing record too if they played 4 games against Atlanta, Florida, Tampa, Carolina, and the Islanders each (20games = 40 points) If Montreal played in the West more often I doubt they would look as good.
