lets go pavel 2 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 Here's the translation I got through MS Word: The players of the national League who decided not to come to the match from stars, to read Pavel Datsyuk and Nicklas Lidstrom, will have to miss the first meeting by their respective formation to the return of the pause. So that the players receive their full wages nevertheless, it is not a question of an official suspension imposed by the LNH. Martin Brodeur had undergone the same treatment last year and it is what would explain why Sidney Crosby is downtown in weekend. It sounds like the same report as on TSN, not that they've been definitely suspended, but they will be if they miss ... the part about it not being an "official" suspension is interesting though. up2here 41 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 I don't speak French, but as best I can tell it says: The NHL has suspended Datsyuk and Lidstrom for refusing to participate in an event sponsored by the league. They will be suspended without pay. Brodour received the same treatment after missing an allstar game. Gary Bettman, the bastard offspring of a mutant iguana and a leprechaun, has imposed these sanctions after the Wings told him to blow it out his bum, which is, as the rest of him, full of unmentionable waste product. OK, I made the last paragraph up. But the first part is as close as I can come to accurate. I am not bilingual either but my buddy is and he says the article does NOT confirm they are suspended only that they will be if they miss the game. Something we already knew. Jersey Wing 1,521 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 The best way to get even with Napoloean Betteman is to make him present the big silver thing to Nick in Joe Louis Arena so Wings fans can let Gary know how we feel.
KronwallCRUNCH 5 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 You'd think that the idiot would think to give players a little bit more notice before springing a rule like this. Perhaps if Bettman wanted players to want to play in this "all-star" game, he should have tried to make it a little less of a joke in the first place. edicius 3,269 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 (edited) Wow. That's bulls***. Wonder if a suspension will affect Dats and the Lady Byng. Seriously. Just read on TSN, of course, that Crosby's en route to the ASG as we speak, so no suspension for the league's golden boy. The NHLPA's going to have a field day with this. Bluedevils_13 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 Seriously, this leaves such an awful taste in my mouth, I'm still going to go to the game, but the trip from toledo to columbus is going to be very bitter thanks to one person.

Perhaps if Bettman wanted players to want to play in this "all-star" game, he should have tried to make it a little less of a joke in the first place. Apparently, that rule has been in effect for a while now. From what I gather, if the player/players don't miss the games before or the game after the ASG for an injury, they would be suspended. I could be wrong, so some other posters will correct me.

55fan 5,133 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 Does this mean there will be call ups from Grand Rapids? This isnt going to cost us a player going up and down through waivers is it? If they're doing this to make a statement, then I would guess they'd play with a short bench before they'd lose someone to waivers. If Mule and Stuart are back, it wouldn't be short. Forwards: Cleary, Hossa, Hank, Homer, Val, Sammy, Huds, Malts, Drapes, Kopy, Mule and Meech. Dmen: Raf, Kronner, Stu, Lil, Lebda, Cheli. From the article posted last page, it sounds like it's being done with Holland's blessing.
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 Now that Bush is gone, I am free to focus all of my negative feelings on Bettman. I hope there is an inquiry into why other players opted out in recent years for personal reasons -- yet Pasha and Nick have doctors' excuses and they are required to show up for this farce or be suspended. I am not a conspiracy theorist, but I do believe he's doing this because having the two best players in their positions in the league, never mind the Cup champs, not show up makes the party look a little less shiny in Montreal. yes, I am biased in Nick's favor, before you all trot out statistics. Pasha, goes without question he's the best in the NHL right now. Fix the selection process so it isn't a joke, and perhaps the players will be more interested in participating. I think the Wings can do without Pasha and Lids for a game. They'll just have to play better, and it's not like they've been stellar lately anyway.
hockeytown9321 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 Great, thanks Gary, I bought tickets to the Jackets Wings game to see my two favorite playeres play and now I don't get too because you are a little girl. I am seriously thinking about writing a letter, but I know it won't make the slightest difference. It is a shame that he has to make fans suffer just to get his own personal vendettas across. That's an interesting point. They're forced to sit because they pull out of the ASG because its an insult to the fans(most of whom are corporate sponsors who couldn't care less anyway) who bought ASG tickets, yet no consideration is given to the fans who buy non-exhibition game tickets. egroen 384 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 I can not believe Bettman wants to give a black eye to Niklas Lidstrom and the three-time reigning Lady Byng winner. I am really pissed. Kira 451 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 Am I the only one who thinks this is like suspending a kid for skipping school??? What a joke - if this means that Pasha doesn't win the Byng, or Nick doesn't win the Norris, big deal - ask them if they care. Their eyes are on the more important prize, and if it means taking time to rest and spend time away from the game, so be it. Sit it out, boys...we still love and support you. Mike 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 This just shows what a juvenile ass Bettman is. To call out players in the NHL, the NHL that he is in charge of, through the media is absolutely absurd. Bettman thinks he is making some kind of statement for the fans on this one, but what he really is doing is showing how ineffective a commissioner he is. The players do not respect him and the fans really do not respect him. Hey Bettman, news flash, THE FANS DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE ALL-STAR GAME. Just look at the television ratings to see how much they do not care. Oh yeah, another thing to show how much the All-Star game sucks, IT IS ON VERSUS. No one watches Versus by choice. No surprise, the Penguins are going to send Crosby for off-ice activities because they have no balls. Kenny should come out with Lidstrom and Datsyuk at his side and they should collectively scream "f*** you Bettman!"
commadore183 103 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 I believe you are correct on that. Thanks to letsgopavel for the correct translation. Mine was obviously way off. Another thing that I know of is that the NHLPA doesn't have a problem with this as long as they are paid while suspended, as far as what I read on the other thread about this. Also, is this official that Lidstrom and Datsyuk are suspended, or is it just a rehash of what has been reported, ie that the two could be suspended for not attending? I wouldn't have a problem about disciplining the players if it was a fine, but a suspension is going too far, IMO. As far as I know, these two are rehabbing injuries, so there is a legit reason, IMO. drwscc 212 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 I still don't think they'll be suspended. They just have to play out the injuries, and not play the first game back. Then, no suspension.
