Franzen or Hossa?

It's tough, but I'd keep Hossa. Yes, he'll cost more. But I don't think it'll be that much drastically more than Franzen will ask for, and Hossa's upside is much greater in my opinion.

If it is a difference of 1mil that 1mil can be used to sign Ville Leino to a small raise (.875k).

All other things being equal (which they're not) you would have to go with Hossa every time. He is the more dominant, explosive player.

In real life, where their salary demands are different, and there is a cap to contend with, you'd like to keep Hossa, but may not be able to.

Hell, there's a chance we lose them both, similar to how Pittsburgh jettisoned Ryan Malone to make room for Hossa, and then Hossa came here instead.

"But if its Franzen and Hudler vs Hossa and Sammy, I'm going with Franzen and Hudler. "

Agreed. I think as a pairing there is more upside for those two despite the massive upside for Hossa. Sammy is okay but his skills are only going to decline over the next few seasons whilst Hudler and Franzen should both improve and the way Hudler is going this season his upside is looking quite large.

Sammy's the worst.

Sammy's the worst.

Sammy has been having an excellent season.

In previous seasons, he's been vanilla pudding. I couldn't like him, but I couldn't dislike him... because he just never did anything to spark any emotion in me.

This season he's really picking it up and producing.

As for this thread.. I was chanting Franzen for weeks. But seeing how much Hossa has picked up his game and is working when he's on the ice, I'm going with Hossa.

We should make a petition or send kenny e-mails or letters to let him know we want hossa as a red wings ... any way this could happen?

How 'bout one that says we want Hossa and Franzen and Hudler and Bouwmeester and Kovalchuk next season along with Luongo.

Salary cap is a *****. The Wings are going to get ridiculously top-heavy unless Marian comes in with an obscene discount. Signing him will mean at LEAST two other players have to move on. Probably 3.

My bottom line is I want to watch hossa, Datsyuk and Zetterberg for the next 10-12 years, they can plug whoever else in around those guys and I'll be happy every year.

Thing is though, the said players aren't gonna be the same players they are now 10-12 years down the road. Having Zetterberg with a cap hit of 6 mil at age 40 is enough IMO.

With our economy in 10-12 years $6 Mill will be chump change relative to the cap. All I'm saying is tie them all up long term and I'm happy.

Has anyone else noticed that franzen's deflection ability in front of the net doesn't seem to exist anymore, yeah he knocked two pucks in out of midair but he doesnt seem to stand in front of the net and deflect pucks from the D.. remember last year that's what he was good at... he need to pick that up again

Yes. Thats working quite well in Pittsburgh, where 2 of the 3 greatest offensive talents are making power forwards out of *******.

I think the interesting thing to look at here is whether we have a better shot at re-signing hossa if we A) repeat as champs or B) fail to hoist the cup.

I'm thinking B. Hossa came here because we have the best shot at winning the cup right? I think if he does win it, he goes to the highest bidder. But lets say we put up a valiant effort but bow out in the WCF or the SCF, hossa might still think we are the team with the best shot. idk. just food for thought.

on topic: hossa. duh. unless he costs 4+ million more than mule you gotta land hossa.

oh and goal tending. start conks, dump ozzie after this year and bring up Howard. the guy has been on ise for too long...

And this team proved they can win the Cup without Hossa last year, they can certainly do it again in future years without him if he isn't here.

This argument is we-taught-ed. We won the cup last year with Osgood in net, how are you feeling about that right now?
