Wings Would Like To Re-sign Kopecky

A seemingly innocuous little tidbit at the end of a story detailing Hossa and Franzen's interests in re-signing is this:

[Marian Hossa's agent Rich] Winter also represents forward Tomas Kopecky, whom the Red Wings have indicated they would like to re-sign.

No quotes, but Ansar Khan is very much a reliable source.

he's not that bad.. it's just his role on the team.. let him play on a line that already has a physical presence and two-way centerman and all of a sudden you have a somewhat physical 4th line winger who has a better skillset than your average 4th line

but Maltby-Draper-Kopecky just doesnt work

It seems that Kopecky and Hossa have long-standing ties. My guess is that Marian is the big fish and Kopecky is the hook.

Hey, finally someone makes sense.

He's not my favorite, but thank you both for these.

This is just a ploy to win over Hossa. "Yeah Marian, we're going to re-sign Tomas too, don't worry guy."

It's kind of like when a woman promises more "fun time" once you're married... next thing you know you're trapped in an 8 year/6mil contract with limited to no "fun time". True story.

kopecky has no skill at all! ok thats a little bit of an exageration.

all the guys who suck now though, malts mac draps (still kinda ok), they were way better than kopecky when they were his age.

kopecky doesn;t work with this system and but if it keeps hossa around well.......

As someone stated above, Kopecky is not the problem on the 4th line. He's also begun to play on the PK, and is doing well in that role.

It also probably has something to do with Hossa. Hossa stated in Ansar's article from last night:

Hossa believes the 12-year, $73-million pact Zetterberg signed helped him get a better gauge of his own market value. He made it sound as if a deal with the Red Wings would eventually happen.

"I know what I kind of want, I want to stay for a long time," Hossa said. "This is great to be part of. We'll see how the negotiations will go, what Ken and Ritch (Winter, his agent) tell me. It could be a few days, a few months or after the end of the year."

If resigning Kopecky means that Hossa is more willing to stay at a comparable deal to Zeke's, then this is a win-win.

He makes right around league min and will continue to. There are a lot of players with fourth line talent in the league, they all bring the same thing, but many of them won't mesh with what this team has. What we know is that he isn't a cancer in the locker room. He is never going to be a top six fwd. For what he provides and what he commands in salary, he is just fine.

What have you seen from him on the PK that would make you say he is doin well in that role? He doesn't get that much time, really only when there is a double minor or when Lilja got that major. Noone is playing well on the PK right now anyway.

Kopecky provides some good enegry, I have no problems with him

Come on...he provides nothing. The most you see out of Kopecky in a game is a penalty and several giveaways. The guy's useless and getting rid of him would open up a roster spot for a much more deserving guy like Darren Helm, or someone else from the Griffins.

Kopecky is one of the worst players to earn a permanent roster spot on the Wings in the past 10 years. He fills absolutely NO role on this team well, and is taking a spot away from numerous players in GR who would serve the team better.
