drwscc 212 Report post Posted February 12, 2009 If this actually happens, I will be amazed. I have been firmly in the camp of 1 year and done from the beginning, and I'm still not convinced, but this definitely does look good for at least keeping Hossa. VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted February 12, 2009 Straight out of Hossa's mouth: "Everyone knows that to play in Detroit you have to take less money...I'll take less money." Not bad hearing Hossa say that Holland will probably be able to keep him AND Mule. Now if only Mule feels the same way... No worries in my mind. I think it's all a matter of when and how much. I feel so much better about this now. What's interesting is that the article quotes that Hossa is looking to make between Zetterberg and Datsyuk's money. But in another article that seemed just as reliable, it says Hossa knows he won't make more than Datsyuk. Considering how the media was slightly off on Z's new contract before it was signed, anyone else have a feeling he'll match Zetterberg's contract? I wonder how many years we're offering Hossa? Blueliner 69 Report post Posted February 12, 2009 I wonder how many years we're offering Hossa? Well he's thirty right now. So I say they'll get him for 8-10 years.

Ozzie30 170 Report post Posted February 12, 2009 That convinces me that Hossa will definately be re-signed. I just hope that if the Wings do get Hossa and Mule back that Kenny has a plan to follow when the cap moves down in a couple years.

Mors 201 Report post Posted February 12, 2009 I'd say those are pretty confidence inspiring words from the man himself...the Wings are about to surprise and agitate a lot of teams and fans around the league with these signings

Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted February 12, 2009 I need some help here. This is a toughie. If the Wings manage to pull off long term, I can't really decide what will thrill me more: 1. Having Hossa long term at a bargain price. 2. Seeing the absolute amazement/disgust other fanbases will have, particularly the Burgh.
The Secret 304 Report post Posted February 12, 2009 Looks good and makes me like Hossa even more then before. Says alot about the Ownership, organization and about Hossa... all are committed to winning and being happy. Where else in the league do you find this happening? Good news for all Wings fans! Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted February 12, 2009 As an aside, if he's seeking money between Dats and Z, I imagine he can probably be talked down to the same cap hit as Z if it's longer than, say, 7 years. If it's a deal around 7 years in length, I can see around 6.45.

I just hope that if the Wings do get Hossa and Mule back that Kenny has a plan to follow when the cap moves down in a couple years. It would help tremendously if Lidstrom resigns at a rate similar to Stuart's/Kronwall's contract. But you never know.
Guest mindfly Report post Posted February 12, 2009 (edited) What about Hudler he's too amazing to loose... trade filppula is the only option? atleast it appears so... Can we take for granted that Hudler will get offers from other clubs? Edited February 12, 2009 by mindfly
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted February 12, 2009 The thing is Holland most likely won't be able to sign Hossa for a 8-12 year deal and have the last three or four years be 1M each. We would have a 12M caphit on two 38 year old players at that point, which is way too risky. A 6-8 year deal would avoid this problem, but most likely won't be able to get down to 1M or 2M in those last couple years to lower the cap overall. The only way I can see this working is for a 4 or 5 year deal with 7 to 8M in the first two years and 5 to 6M in the second half of the contract for a cap hit of around 6.5ish. Having Hossa long term at a bargain price. 2. Seeing the absolute amazement/disgust other fanbases will have, particularly the Burgh. That's easy. Reading the reaction from the Pittsburgh fans. He turns down a long term contract with them amd signs a long term contract with us........... The only thing better would be seing him hoist the cup this June while Pittsburgh doesn't even make the playoffs.
