HockeytownRules19 902 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Wow, Calgary just put themselves with the Sharks and Red Wings in the West. I don't think so, not quite yet. It's the wings and the fish, then the flames and hawks and then the rest of the conference.

boomer 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Holland on TSN said that moves are unlikely because were up against the cap. But when asked if he were to to make a move he commented that a gritty type player like what a Dallas Drake was would be inorder. He also said he would consider tha same type player on the D. But the bottom line things were being sought internally Holland commented.
RedWingAbner 13 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 What is it with people these days? Thats such a bullcrap statement. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?i...e=nhl-red_wings In 96-97 he played half the games. He made a major contribution. Yet, I haven't heard any reason why it shouldn't count other than the fact he didn't play playoffs which is such a copout. Point is that it counts. Well, I guess Hasek is a 2-time Cup goalie. Oh wait. Most people understand that getting it done in the playoffs is what matters.

The Secret 304 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 On CBS Sports rumors were reported that Ken Holland put in an offer for Neil: Heres the link,,, http://nhl-rumor-mill.blogs.cbssports.com/...s/view/10714870 This would be great. boomer 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Did the flames get Jokinen? Its confirmed now Lombardi going to Coyotes. Plus they picked up Leopold from Avs. I think Holland got feel some pressure with these Calgary moves.
Nightfall 871 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Well, I guess Hasek is a 2-time Cup goalie. Oh wait. Most people understand that getting it done in the playoffs is what matters. You are right, he is a 2 time Cup winning goalie. Most people understand that getting to the playoffs is what matters first. Apparently, Haseks play in the regular season in getting us there doesn't count to some people. Whatever, time to move on to the topic at hand.....
Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 I'm not sure I buy that deal. After all the effort the Wings have put into developing Howard, are they going to trade him to rent Neil after one bad start?
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 this might force Holland's hand on making some type of trade... Thats exactly what I'm thinking. Calgary is deep now, and we all know they're big and physical. I think Jokinen is overrated, but I also thought Calgary was a great team to begin with - this only makes our playoff run tougher if we come up against them. This is exactly the type of team that you'd need a Lappy/Neil/Etc presence against.
RedWingAbner 13 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 You are right, he is a 2 time Cup winning goalie. Most people understand that getting to the playoffs is what matters first. Apparently, Haseks play in the regular season in getting us there doesn't count to some people. Whatever, time to move on to the topic at hand..... The difference between winner and starter, for goalies, is a big one. If you don't understand that you are foolish. When people speak of Martin Gerber, do they say he won a Cup? No. Cam Ward stood on his head in the playoffs. Gerber was just there. What about Brodeur's backups? Exactly. That's my main point.
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 IIRC, didn't Jokinen almost go to the Flames at the deadline last year?

MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 I'm not sure I buy that deal. After all the effort the Wings have put into developing Howard, are they going to trade him to rent Neil after one bad start? And Ottawa now has LeClaire, Elliot & Auld. They won't be after yet another goaltender.
RedWingAbner 13 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 I'm not sure I buy that deal. After all the effort the Wings have put into developing Howard, are they going to trade him to rent Neil after one bad start? Where is his place? The Wings are pretty deep in net, and Howard hasn't exactly been amazing.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 I'm not sure I buy that deal. After all the effort the Wings have put into developing Howard, are they going to trade him to rent Neil after one bad start? Howard is what, 25? I'm not saying a buy that deal either - a 3rd and Howard is a lot for Neil - but Howard hasn't exactly done himself many favors since being integrated into the Wings organization, and hes getting to the point where its now or never. The Secret 304 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Its confirmed now Lombardi going to Coyotes. Plus they picked up Leopold from Avs. I think Holland got feel some pressure with these Calgary moves. Still for some reason i am not at all worried about the Flamers? They have definitely improved but for some reason I don't think they have it in them to go the distance. boomer 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 This would be great. Hoping that Neil stays if he works out. Howards been a bust. That's not plausible since Ottawa got Pascal Leclaire from Blue Jackets for Antoine Vermette. Its got to be a deal where where cap space is cleared - contract for contract. Sammy maybe? Man I want Neil!
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 thus far, calgary is the clear winner... getting stronger by the hour... they'll make a good run at least As far as contenders go...absolutely. That being said, I love Ottawa's deal this morning as well. Leclaire's going to be a great pickup for them for atleast the next couple seasons after this one and the 2nd rounder is icing on the cake.
