So if Flip's out, does Lebda go in as forward?

Maybe i'm just out of the loop of missing something but why are we putting D men as forwards instead of calling up helm/and or leino again? Are they at the max games played before permanantly counting as the cap or something?

If I understand correctly, you only get 4 call-ups after the trade deadline, and we've used one. I do think there's an emergency call-up, but I'm not clear if that counts in with the 4. I'm sure it has something to do with waiting so we only use them if (God forbid) someone else goes out. Hopefully someone can explain this better.

It's a stupid line if you ask me. Pair Datsyuk with Hossa or Z, not Sammy.

Exactly. The Franzen-Datsyuk-Hossa line looked deadly against Philly. And we all know how good Hank and Pavel are together.

Hossa and Z sadly have zero chemistry. I don't think they've been able to string together 2 passes between them this season.

And Sammy on the 1st line is a joke. Give Hudler some time on the top 2 lines, maybe that will get him going again.

But maybe these were just crazy ideas he tried in practice, hopefully it's not what we'll see in the game tomorrow.

If Flip were in, this is what I'd want to see as an experiment, personally:

Franzen - Datsyuk - Hossa: Kicked ass the other night and what's not to like about 18-19 minutes worth of Dats setting up 2 30+ goalscorers?

Flip - Zetterberg - Cleary: Flip maybe gets some extra confidence playing with Zetterberg. Cleary always seems to play well with Z. This line also has great defense.

Hudler - Kopecky - Sammy: Might as well play the hot hand around the net in Kopecky. Hudler is a serious offensive threat on the third line, because it's so hard for most other teams to match up against him when their top shutdown players are already dedicated to messing with the top 2 lines. If nothing else, some LGWers will be happy if a Sammy shot injures Kopecky.

Maltby - Draper - Meech: Well, do we really want to see any of them on the 3rd line?

Without Flip:

same 1st line

Kopecky - Z - Hudler: Kind of an odd one, but Kopecky's been a hot hand lately, and maybe playing with him and Z boosts Hudler's confidence a bit.

Maltby - Cleary - Sammy: Well, it's got defense. Sammy occasionally generates scoring chances on his own.

Meech - Draper - Lebda: But first, find a way to collect energy from skates contacting ice. Make a killing selling the electricity, distribute the wealth, raise the salary cap, re-sign everyone. SUCCESS!!

What about this line up? Suppose no injured player anymore in this team

Suppose ZDH line exists

Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Holmstrom

Franzen-Filppula-Hossa

Samuelsson-Cleary-Hudler

Kopecky-Draper-Maltby

Suppose no ZDH line exists

Datsyuk-Hossa-Holmstrom

Zetterberg-Filppula-Franzen

Cleary-Hudler-Samuelsson

Draper-Kopecky-Maltby

Good for the Ozman...

afterall its the finish the everyone really care about... once he lifts that cup again, the past season and +3.00 gaa will all be forgot and we hit the recordbooks again with the first goalie to win the cup with over a 3GAA :D

I actually like that line, Dats is just totally amazing.

Mule has a great nose for the net, with an accurate shot.

Sammy has a great shot and works hard.

so with the best set of hands in the NHL out there (Dats), coupled with A big body, great shot and some grit (Mule), and complimented with a hard shot and more grit (Sammy). I beleive this line is good for 5 goals ;)

With Dats out there with them it can be a veeerry dangerous line.

With all his success, the Cup wins, and they playoff experience, I've come full circle. I am glad that Ranford...err....Osgood is getting this chance to screw whilst simultaneously keeping Conklin (our starter) on the bench.

Hitting goalies in the chest does not a good shot make.

Grit is not getting punched in the face and angrily pushing someone.

Remember what happened to Manny once he went starter status!

Conk is best served as a great backup... and who knows what will happen after the first two games... but i know i am confident in both of them pulling out FOUR 7 games series for us!

Flip will return to the lineup tonight, wheeeey

Valtteri Filppula to play tonight for Red Wings

by Ansar Khan

Friday March 20, 2009, 1:04 PM

Update from the morning skate in Atlanta: Valtteri Filppula will return to the lineup tonight, after missing two games with back spasms. He'll center a line with Jiri Hudler and Tomas Kopecky. Johan Franzen was sick and didn't practice, but coach Mike Babcock said he will play tonight. The other lines are Franzen-Datsyuk-Samuelsson, Cleary-Zetterberg-Hossa and Meech-Draper-Maltby.

For Atlanta, forward Ilya Kovalchuk (back) and defensemen Zack Bogosian (knee) and Ron Hainsey (leg) will return to the lineup. Center Jim Slater (shoulder) is out.

18 goals is not bad for a third liner. But if all his 18 goals went right through a goalies chest to find the net then, dammmm his shot is better than I first thought.

and

I'm not sure you know what Grit is.

Why did he get punched in the face? maybe some grit did it??

I'm not sure you know how the English language works. Grit is an attribute. It can't "do" anything, and to say that it did (it) something is like saying that "his passion kneed him in the groin." No, someone kneed him in the groin.

In Samuelsson's case, he gets punched, and it's because he stands next to the net after a shot and players know they can smack him. It's not because he's gritty.

He has 18 goals. It's nice, but it doesn't address the fact that his shot is typically high and centered on the logo of the goalie he is shooting toward.
