Nev 1,085 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 Couple of very interesting quotes in th Freep today He's the fastest I've ever played with He's the best skater I've ever seen. He flies out there. He always gets to the puck and gets to the corner so he can finish the hits on the D. It's fun to see Now we all know Helm can skate, but those 2 quotes really stood out to me http://www.freep.com/article/20090426/SPOR...ct+for+playoffs

Mors 201 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 It's exciting to have a player who you always have to keep your eye on because you know he's going to finish his checks (not as a knock to anyone else, just that Helm is flying out there)
C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 High praise from a couple pretty good players. I love watching the guy too, he's non-stop and turns our fourth line into something more than "get the big guys some rest and don't get scored on," they can now create momentum on their own. ComradeWasabi 109 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 He doesn't really have much scoring touch from what I've seen, but he goes at 110% out there all game long. A huge energy-giving player.
Guest Crymson Report post Posted April 26, 2009 A friend of mine who works at the Motor City Casino met Helm when the latter checked into the hotel there a few nights ago. My friend said that Helm is actually a pretty small guy. Given his size and given how he's been freight-training people anyway, I imagine his speed is pretty darned good. And his speed gives him the ability to time hits very well. Thumbs up.
Shaman 713 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 Ok, heres my idea, you 6 million dollar man Leino and Helm together
ComradeWasabi 109 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 Ok, heres my idea, you 6 million dollar man Leino and Helm together I don't think we have the cap space for that
C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 My friend said that Helm is actually a pretty small guy. I wish he was just a little bit smaller--just bought a Griffins gamer but couldn't get Helm because he was one size bigger than I wanted to go. Had to settle for Ritola. clutchngrab 12 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 Helm is a huge spark for this team. A huge shot in the arm for a fourth line that has looked fairly tired for most of the year - except when he and Leino were up earlier. Babcock seems to love this guy, so he isn't sitting anytime soon. If our goaltending holds up, this team should be even better than last years when you think of the addition of Ericcson and Hossa. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 Yeah, Helm isn't the 6'0 hes listed as. But man can this guy hit. All he needs is more time and a little confidence around the net, and he could a 15 goal NHL guy.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 He's a small guy for sure, but he plays big. He's awesome. Atta boy Helmer!
LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 (edited) What else are they gonna say? "He's the slowest, absolute worst player I've ever played with! I don't even know why he is in the NHL! He Sucks!" Next season, it would be awesome to see a grind line of Helm, Abdelkader and Downey! (prolly won't happen, but that would be energy there!) beepbeep 3 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 Plays a hell of a lot bigger than 6' 3" 218 lb Franzen, and that is sad............

RedWings 79 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 (edited) Plays a hell of a lot bigger than 6' 3" 218 lb Franzen, and that is sad............ Franzen is a fantastic power forward, he crashes the net like nobody in the team... Are you blind ?? Helm is ok to see, fun to watch, but the guy doesn't produce much. He is at his place on the fourth line. I think Draps at his prime was faster than Helm Edited April 26, 2009 by RedWings
akustyk 84 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 I'd rather have Drapes than Helm in the lineup. simple reason being: 4. like 4 cups Drapes has in his resume. 4 cups he's been a huge part of. but it's good to be too rich in options and Helm has definitely been good these couple of playoff games. Kwame_Kilpatrick 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 the reason he has always good checks is his speed. most player are much slower when they come in for the check but when you multiply speed by weight, helm is actually coming in with a greater force than bigger guy
ComradeWasabi 109 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 jeez he was all over Klesla.
Chase 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2009 I love helm. So what he doesnt have much of a scoring touch, he has more than Draper IMO. But his speed and energy level is awesome. He better get a regular spot in the lineup next season...

Your idea of crashing the net must be different than mine, And why don't you dig up a few big body checks by Franzen and post them cuz I musta missed them........... Draper DID win 4 cups. It doesn't matter what he did do. It's what he can do now. And as far as I'm concerned, it's far better to have Helm in the lineup over Draper. Sure Draper has experience, but we have enough of that to make up for it.
