Just back from the Griffins game

My thirteen year old son just walked in from the Griffins/Bulldogs game (GR wins 4-1),and shows off his Wings t-shirt,with 3 new signatures.

He sat behind Kenny for the third period, has a little talk with him regarding the playoffs, and puts in a good word for bringing Downey up. Kenny chats him up,and signs his t-shirt.

He waits outside the Griffins locker room, and bumps into Haydar, who also signs it.

Another young lady beside him, asks if he likes Downey,as she is his neighbour in Ontario.

When Downey finally exits, she tells him that my son was putting in a good word about him with Kenny,so he gets a big high 5 and signs his shirt also. (he also signed his jersey last week, along with Kenny and Stevie Y)

That was the last visit for GR in Hamilton, but what a lucky kid!

Downey is truly a down to earth gentleman, considering what a beast he is on the ice!

I hope he gets a shift or 2 to have his name on the cup if we do it again this year.

FML!

I was at the game today! I kept my eyes out for Holland but didn't see him!

Downey did nod at me and checked into the plane of glass that I was watching him though!

:) And also McMarty is a beast!

One day all the famous people in Sweden will stop coming over to play hockey in the States, and then you'll understand.

If you live in the Grand Rapids area McCarty and Downey have been down at Uccellos sports bar out in Standale for all of the 1st round Wings action. My brother works there and says no one really crowds around them or anything so maybe you could "bump" into em when there leaving. Pretty cool how they dont get mugged in general spots.

no joke a few weeks ago my family went to a griffens game, it was when the cup was there. a few hours before the game started we were walking downtown and walked by a coffee shop, i dont remember what the name was but we looked in the window and downey was sitting there listening to his i-pod. it was awsome it took a few seconds for me to relize that i was only standing a few feet away from downey. hope he gets some playing time in the playoffs

Here's my Downey story:

The one Griffins game I went to was with a bunch of my fraternity brothers because we are all avid Red Wing fans . It was during the pre-game skates and one of my brothers decided he would try to get a signed puck by Downey so between one of the stantions on the bench he was relentlessly yelling at, I think the trainer, to see if he could get a puck from Downey. After about ten minutes of just obnoxious yelling the trainer finally agreed and called Downey over just to hand him a puck. As Downey went to go hand the puck to him he took off like a bat out of hell towards the Griffin's end of the ice.

Downey must have saw all of together, because we all had our letters on and went full board into the boards with his body. So as a bunch of my brothers exchange body blows into the boards with Downey for a good 20-30 seconds, the security staff came and told us to stop immediately.

After the game, which we had won via shootout, before leaving the ice Downey, who still had that puck on the bench, tossed it over the glass to us, and the best part of it, it was signed by him!

I love Downey as a person, and I hope him well. I'm not going to say anymore after that though!

The funny thing about my 13year old discussing contracts with Holland,is that Kenny remembered him from the previous week when they first met,and started by saying,

"not YOU again!" :scared:

The GM of our beloved wings remembers a kid from a previous meeting in another city, and takes the time to talk and sign his jersey again.
