Where is Hossa?

That save was the result of a brutal giveaway he coughed up... maybe not the best example. ;)

ok... very true. I knew someone would bring that up

You're right. But he made up for his own mistake! That was my point

okay guys the thing you have to realize is that hossa is only playing like 17-18 minutes a game, its not like getzlaf where he plays half the game and MUST make a difference for the ducks to win. the wings r a team and we win because everyone chips in, some are just more effective at it. hossa, z, pavel, franzy, all of these guys just set the tone. we have a team rythm, not a one guy thing. hossa will have a shining moment, but be glad he is saving it for a more crunch time moment

I have to agree with the author of this thread...

Hossa is invisible since the beginning of the playoffs.

The 2 goals against a 0-3 BJ team do not mean anything.

Franzen is ten times more valuable in the playoffs than Hossa for a very competitive salary.

I am also disappointed about Zetterberg. He's been solid, but he does not bring leadership to the team. He does not play like a franchise player. I expect him to make plays, not just be a solid 2 way forward who can shoot.

Z has been playing great. I thought all of the Wings were a little rusty in the first - as to be expected, but we are playing well as a TEAM. So Lidstrom and Franzen were the heros last night - could be Z or Pavel another night. That's how we win - we have solid 2-way players who are scoring threats on every line. You question his leadership? He's fine and he'll make a fine captain for this team someday....any team in the league would take him in a second and I'm glad they can't!

He has 4 points in 5 games and was about a point per game player in the regular season. 4 points in 5 games is the same thing more/less. Plus he is great defensively, hustles and backchecks well.

Hossa is fine.

Wow im sick of you guys on this forum that either;

A) Don't watch the games

B) Watch the games and know nothing about hockey

C) Only pay attention to what gets written on the states sheet

Hossa has been playing great and is contributing tremendously to our team. He has been one of the hardest working players on the ice. He never stops moving his feet and is giving 200% to win a Stanley Cup.

Oh and for you stat boys. Hossa has the most shots on our team in the playoffs. Hes also outscoring Datsyuk.

All true, he's been fine in pretty much every area except the noticeable tendency for him to circle around the perimeter and not go to the net. Both him and Datsyuk have been a little shy around the "hard areas" so far, but they'll get there.

this thread can go look at the "humble hossa earns his wings" thread, specifically where it says, hossa didnt need to be the center of attention here, we just need to him to play a strong defensive game, the scoring will come, dont worry!

He's watching. Waiting. Lurking in the shadows. Out of sight, out of mind.

And then, when they least expect it, he will pounce like a rabid cat on meth when you shoot a pin with a rubber band at its testicles (don't try this at home).

The Ducks don't know what he can do. He wasn't with us in 2007. We know. We will laugh. Mwahahaha.

Seriously, what others said. He is blending in with the team. If the Ducks shut down one line, another will emerge. They can't put their best guys on everyone all the time. That is the Wings' strength.

I don't want to start a flame war on my first day but c'mon, if Hoss doesn't put up a million points he's playing bad? Or if he isn't setting up a ton of chances, he's invisible? I guess he's only invisible when you're not looking.

When I see Hossa, he's out there backchecking, taking pucks, playing very good defense in his own zone and making sure no one takes the puck from him in the zone of the other team. I actually saw a topic that asked "What's wrong with Hossa?" because he one handed the puck when handling it. WTF?! He's warding off defenders with the other hand so he can set something up. Are we hockey fans, or are we from Tampa Bay or something? Hossa's strongarming guys, winning puck battles, etc. Much like Hank. God we're so picky.

Part of the reason the Ducks chances were down substantially from the SJ series and eventually in the third period was because of guys like Flip, Hank and Hoss who aren't setting up a trillion scoring chances but are playing wonderful D to stop the other team.

Reading the game summ/blogs, thought I'd toss in that Z won 16/23 FOs (70%) while Getzlaf recorded a balmy 3/21 (14%). Z also had 3 hits, and was with 1A, +1. I wouldn't say that indicates a guy floating around out there - he is doing his part just as much as anyone else...

Exactly. Sometimes there's more to playing a great game than playing like the Capitals. Hank's a Selke nominee. It's natural that at this point we might be seeing him around the opposing net a little less and checking around the opponents top line a little more. And doing the little, invisible things that win games.

Why do you crack me up so bad???? :D Rabid cat on meth? I'm rolling here.

OT: I agree with what you said. We can roll 3 or 4 big lines. They can only roll 1. Maybe 2. We have the strength to shut them down from all angles, not just with 1 big line.

4 points in 4 games against the CBJs while being a plus 2. What's not to like about that? Game one against the Ducks he was a -1, definately needs to step it up these next few games.

Everyone needs to lay off the OP. Hossa has been by far well above average these playoffs, but he does need to step up his play this round as well as the next two rounds :)

And it's not just Hossa who needs to step up, all the Wings do, I want to thoroughly embarrass these ducks and their fans....except Duck guy

I understand where the OP is coming from. For a guy who came here to win the cup, he hasn't been as dominant as you'd expect. But then again, very few of our forwards have.

Personally, I attribute it to Datsyuk and Hossa playing on the same line. I've never liked those two together. It takes them forever to form chemistry when united.

The way I see it, the Wings really haven't had to rely on their big guns yet. They'll show up when we most need them to.

I never though Hossa is playing bad. For sure, he has not been spectacular but he scored 2 goals and made some assists and made some good defensive plays. I do not think it is proper to bash players in the playoff by watching only few games.

Hossa has fully integrated himself into the Wings system. Which, to me, means he'll be one of the 7 Wings on the Conn Smythe ballot this June.

Seriously though, this isn't the Eastern Conference. I don't expect Hossa to get 26 PTS this playoffs. But he may very well get his name on the silver. There would be no complaints from this camp if that were to happen.

This isn't necessarily pointed at you, but it is also.

I barely noticed him out there last night. We really need him to step up his game if we want to win this series vs the ducks.

I do not see any bashing of Hossa in this post, the post by the OP. I see an assertion that I think everyone will agree with. He was -1 last night. We need him to be an even +/- each game. He needs to step up his game just like ever Wing should as well so we don't become complacent.

Oh sorry if I understood in a wrong way. But the bottom line is that I do not particularly think Hossa is playing bad. He made some good defensive performances in game 1 but I know he has to step up offensively and I have faith on Hossa and Datsyuk.

Exactly! That's what I think the OP was trying to get at. Hossa playing not bad is better than most people can play haha.
