NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted May 10, 2009 What do you guys think of how these guys have played? Abdelkader hasn't had that much ice time, but he seems to get at least one hit per shift, and has even assisted on a goal, without making any mistakes. So while it's a shame that Koko is injured, I'm perfectly happy with his replacement. One concern was his tendency to take dumb penalties, but he sure hasn't done any of that tonight. I'm not sure what his faceoff stats have been... Helm had a good game, he's responded well to more ice time. He got on the scoreboard at a crucial time, in a manner reminiscent of the Grind Line's clutch goals in 97 and 98. It wasn't pretty, and Cleary was in the crease, but I'll still take it. Ericsson has been good as usual.
RusDRW 155 Report post Posted May 10, 2009 Abdelkader looked a bit lost at times. I would rather play Leino. Ericsson and Meech were perfectly fine.
Wingsallwin 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2009 I think Abdelkader could be better but he looked lost; well, it was his first playoff game if I memorize correctly. Helm has been phenomenal, one of most consistent Wings in this playoff.

As much as I want to see Leino play in the playoffs, I think his roll is not available and the roll of grinder is. Abdelkader looks like a pretty good grinder. Guest Four Report post Posted May 10, 2009 Ericsson - Will be here for a long time and had another SOLID game. Helm - HE GOT A GOAL! I was so happy when he got it, he's still playing with that fire he's had all playoffs, I love it. Abdelkader - Played well - had great hits, got an assist and was fairly active for his amount of icetime Meech - Didn't notice he was out there, so he must have played pretty good too
Wingnut in WA 86 Report post Posted May 10, 2009 I thought the game was great and the way the little guys played was awesome. I hardly even notiched meetch out there (which is a good thing), and I know some people won't like to hear this but I think that Ab is an upgrade compared to kope. He has alot more speed and lays the body on people alot more effectivly. I hope this is the lineup we keep the rest of the playoffs(adding Raffi when he comes back for Meech)
NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted May 10, 2009 I know what you mean about the lost thing, but I imagine that that is something he'll shed after a game or two (if he even gets another game, depending on Draper's status...).
NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted May 10, 2009 The reason you didn't see Meech was because he only had 3 minutes of ice time!
SoDakWing 8 Report post Posted May 10, 2009 Helm and Ericsson have been amazing. Abdelkader might not have really looked super good today. But he got a point, and it was his first ever playoff game. He will be great. These guys are our future for sure. And our future is looking bright.
Mors 201 Report post Posted May 10, 2009 Abdelkader with an assist and +1 to go with 10 hits in 6:30 of ice time. He'll do I guess

vOrophin 5 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 I was looking for Meech in at the start of the game, he seemed to make fine plays. Not outstanding but he didn't seem to screw up at all so I feel fine with him in. I thought Abdelkader looked pretty good, noticed his presence more than I usually notice Kopecky, and not in a negative way. An assist didn't hurt his appearance. Ericsson and Helm played their usual good games, fanstastic for guys who were pulled up.
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 I didn't notice Abdelkadabra at all, but I guess that could be a kind of good thing. Ericsson and Helm are amazing. They'll be on the team for the next 15 years, I hope.
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 They've stepped up and done what's needed of them. Can't ask for anything more than that.
The Mule 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 I don't think I noticed Meech once the entire game, which is more often than not a good sign for a defenseman.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 I'm beginning to wonder how much skill the Wings are actually going to end up losing this offseason. With kids like Ericcson, Helm, Leino, Abdelkader, and Meech all waiting to fill in someone's role, the future of the Wings looks a lot brighter than a lot of people think. Defensively I'm confident the Wings will be better next year than the previous two. With Chelios more likely to be gone than ever, and Ericsson playing at least as good as half our defensive lineup, I expect to see Lebda or Lilja traded. Offensively the Wings are looking at a lineup that consists of Hudler, Sammuelson, and some combination of Leino Helm or Kopecky, or Hossa and some combination of Leino Helm or Kopecky. Either way that's a pretty solid lineup.

zombiewing 3 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 Abdelkader with an assist and +1 to go with 10 hits in 6:30 of ice time. He'll do I guess 4 hits in his first 2 minutes of playoff hockey gets my man love

Wingman 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 They might very well be a glimpse of the next-gen Redwings. And it looks bright indeed. Ericsson even got the 2nd star of the game.
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 Actually, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they lost Hossa, Huds and Kopecky. Holland is a genius. If he doesn't get Hossa signed, no way we'll lose Hudler too. Kopy could go either way, but he's cheap so chances are he'll be around. But those are the kind of things that I don't want to think about right now.. I just want to enjoy having all these great players while we still have them.
