A for Effort

Honestly, after seeing tonights game, I'm not too concerned for the Wings:

Datsyuk out

Complete jobbing by the refs in the 1st

Kronwall out most of the game

O'Halloran in a Wings Conference Final game

Given all that, I thought they did a great job to come back from the brutal reffing in the 1st and bring it to OT. They looked pretty tired by the end of the 3rd, but if we can come back from that sort of adversity to bring it to OT..

As another note, if Scott Stevens were dead, he'd be rolling in his grave.

Anyhow, let's hear some appreciation for the Wings tonight. They played with passion and didn't let up on their physical play even after the BS (in fact, it seemed to increase).

I totally agree with you 110%. Even with Kronwall and Datsyuk out I thought we did great job. We pretty much told the Blackhawks that we will never step down to their level. :D Its just one loss.

Indeed! The boys never give up. You could see having only 5 dmen was starting to wear. Too bad Lidstrom's stick broke, this game could be totally different outcome right now.

Do you wonder why that is? It is because our young hawks have stoped them from doing so. You are 3 games into the series, why wouldnt you bring your best, what are you waiting for. I can say the same thing, the hawks havn't brought their best yet, you know the game that they played vs Calgary and vancouver. But let me guess you are gonna say Vancouver and Calgary suck and that is exactly what i think of Ducks and Columbus.

Yep great effort, take away the laughable reffing in the 1st and we take this one. Would have been nice to have Datsyuk but even without him we should have won. They just had to call something on Kronwall because he knocked Havlat through the space-time continuum, clean hit but the refs blew it, what else is new? Wings in 5 like i said at the beginning of this series.

Positive Mojo,

GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good effort, but i wouldn't give it an A. The Wings have come out flat in the first couple minutes in almost every period of the series, even with Kronwall and Datsyuk. Maybe they are tired, but it seems like when the puck drops, it is takin them a while to get going.

I didn't think we were going to sweep this series and this was the Hawks best chance to take a game so it makes sense they take it. It's always tough to lose in OT though...

Hell yeah. I knew the Wings wouldn't sweep, and I honestly thought this would be the game the Hawks would win, but the fact that the Wings got absolutely hosed in the first period is cause for absolute fury. It was a joke.

Furthermore, just like the Hawks were talking s*** against Iginla and the Flames in their first round, Burish made an ass of himself over a damn blocked shot on Lidstrom, getting in the grill of the classiest guy on ice. 15 second later, Nick canned one to start the comeback.

Hawks owe that game to their captain bleeding on a high stick and Havlat getting filled in, which drew the after-the-fact sympathy from a linesman who must have seen his first clean hit tonite and didn't know what to do besides suggesting Kronwall get the boot.

Not surprised the Wings lost this game, but how they lost it in the 1st period made me ill, losing even more faith the NHL. Plenty of good comes out of this loss, none from the zebras tho, who more and more frequently are deciding hockey games.

Not a really good game from Zetterberg and Franzen.

Great Rafalski, Stuart and Ericsson

Right now I am concerned about our offense. They seem out of gas. I am not concerned we will win this series (Chicago is too bad defensively), but I'm afraid it will go in 6 or 7. We must get some good rest before the SCF.

What particularly reassured me was the penalty kill for the most part looked pretty good even with Datsyuk out. The way the refs were taking it to the Wings in the first it could have been a complete blowout entering the second but pulled off some major high-pressure kills.

I thought Z had a really strong game. He can't seem to score with a goalie in the net right now, but he created chances and played good. Franzen was kind of invisible though. This is the kind of game where I wish Hossa could have stepped up and carried some of the load. But it was maybe his worst game in a while.

When it comes to the defense, I have to give Lebda some appreciation. I'm really impressed with the way he's played in the playoffs, and he really did his part in covering up the loss of Kronner.

A 1st period like this won't happen often, but the Wings can't continue to act like the game starts in the 2nd period. The Hawks have scored first in every game of the series, and that isn't good enough. They showed amazing resiliance and heart with the way they came back, but for next game their goal should be to never fall behind in the first place.

I thought the Wings played pretty well last night and I'm not the least bit concerned about anything that I saw on the ice tonight. I hope the injury bug calms down a bit though, but effort and physicality were there.

This is why i love my Wings...when we face adversity...we answer it...

Dats - out

Kronner - out most of the game

25 Penalty min in the 1st period

down 3-0 halfway through

we answer the call, every time

obv im not happy we lost, obv im not happy with the first period

but honestly should be any sweeps after the first round, teams are too good.

Lets take 1 of 2 in Chicago and win it back in the Joe like it should be

GO WINGS!!!!

Did everyone miss the part where we were totally out shot and out hit in that game. I'm not worried so much as I am annoyed with the slow starts and sloppy play. It was a great job by the Wings to get back in the game, but we shouldn't have been in that position in the 1st place. Some of their passes are ridiculously craptastic and the turnovers.. O...M...G.... have got to stop and Hossa needs to score a damn goal already...

This is kind of a bizzarre topic, since the Wings did not play a 60 minute game once again.

The only A they should get for effort is in that 2nd period when they gave it all they had.

By the time the 3rd period rolled around, the effort wasn't there anymore.

I agree fully. My only reason for optimism (besides the fact I ALWAYS think the Wings will win) is that the Hawks needed a period of s***ty officiating, a third period where the Wings played like s***, *and* us to be without Dats and Kronner to beat us by 1 goal in OT.

I totally feel that same way.
