Don Cherry: ManLove for Helm!

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Tonight on HNIC Grapes had a big segment on his love for Darren Helm and the way he plays.

Of course, Helm's a good ole' Canadian boy, but it is still refreshing to hear Don admit manlove for a Red Wings in the post-Yzerman era.

Well, what do you expect? He's a hard hitting, fast moving Canadian. He is Don Cherry's wet dream in the flesh.

Cherry is biased towards non Canadians its a fact but he does acknowledge only the best and most hard working when it comes to Canadian players. Good to see him give kudos to a Wings players even if it is not a Euro player, you know he will not acknowledge a Euro and we have to live with that. Helmer is that dude!

GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pretty much. I didn't see it, but I'm not exactly shocked that Cherry likes the kid. Kind of the opposite of shocked, actually.

Guy's such a tool, at least he's up front with his bias. He love's Cleary too.

I loved the comment about whether Cleary's goal in game 7 vs the Ducks was legit and his answer was "he's a good Newfoundland boy" so of course it's good in his book - what a freak. Completely out of line, but he is showing some Wings love this post season.

I thought he would go after Ovechkin, but he did not agree with this BS and he stood up for hockey and i will thank him for that.

To Grapes,

Please acknowledge more Euros in you segments, i know you are biased and want to get with the Good Ol Canadian boys and we appreciate having Helmer in your segment, he deserves it but turn the corner old man and get with us.

+1 for Helmer

+1 for DRW

Turn the corner Grapes, we play physical and you know it.

GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Helm could be from Pakistan and he'd still get the same recoginition that he does. Cherry has said before the fans of Detroit NEED a player like this... someone who hits to kill and never stops, gee maybe he was right? The Joe is rocking every time Helm steps on the ice.

Haha I love Don Cherry, he's like the cranky old grandpa who has been around hockey forever. Yeah he's biased towards Canadian players, but I think he adds alot to the broadcasts. Alot more than the sad intermission reports that NBC has with Pierre, for sure. <_<

Helm is a great player, and I really hope Kenny can lock him down for a long-term deal. The Wings need to find more prospects like this in the future, as well.

I hope we can sign Helmer to nice lengthy contract... so he ends up playing for a while for cheap... kinda like how Z is playing right now for 2.6 mil and Franzen for .9 mil. Haha. What a steal.

I got a text after that breakaway goal against Chicago: "Darren Helm has two speeds. Fast, and WARP SPEED!!"

Haha, I love watching this guy take off.

Helm has looked solid in every position. I don't know how he wasn't the MVP of the AHL. He is a huge part of the sucess of the team this postseason. How couldn't anyone be impressed with this guy? The PK shift against Chicago was one of the most impressive shifts I've seen in years! Better than Z's shift last year against Crosby (but not as important).
