How sick is that for Duchene? Getting drafted FIRST ROUND by your favorite team that you watched growing up and possibly getting to play on the same team as one of the guys that you idolized as a kid (Sakic). I bet this is the happiest he's been his whole life thus far.

Edit: To put this in perspective, try conceptualizing getting drafted by the Wings in the first round and getting to play with Yzerman or Lidstrom, who you grew up modeling your game after.

Isn't that what happened with Kronwall. He grew up watching Nick and ended up getting to play with him. That's got to be so cool.

It's true. Too bad Kronwall didn't spend more time watching Nick's defensive play

Kronwall, Ericsson and Kindl all have Lidstrom as their favorite player I believe. You'd think that Lidstrom is the Yzerman model for defensemen but how do you emulate that kind of intelligence?

Dumb question, but how many jerseys do they make with different guys' names on them? At what point do they just have to go up with a blank jersey? Or do they just have someone on the phone with a printing press?

Looks like Glennie got a blank one. :)

I assume they go in with a list of guys that they want in the first round and print those.

Do they even have names there? i thought that it was just "09" and team's name on the back where the players name should be.

Glennie was the first I noticed who had a blank one. Schenn definately had his because I checked the spelling before I made my post about him. (Can never remember if it's 1 n or 2.)

No idea. Last time the Wings had to worry about getting their top 5 pick's name on the jersey was 1990. :)

With Dallas passing on Svensson, Pierre McGuire says he might slide a long ways... maybe to the wings? *cross fingers* =D

I was dreaming of that myself

But I don't think there's any chance he'll slide that far. He'll probably be somewhere in the next 5 picks or so.

I'm surprised he hasn't been picked yet, but I guess teams aren't really looking for a guy that won't be ready for the NHL for a couple of years. But I feel he's going to be an incredible player eventually.

I was waiting for someone to say this and crush all false hope.

MPS is easily top 5 in skill. His falling is getting ridiculous IMO.

Magnus Pääjärvi-Svensson

Even though he's Swedish the "Pääjärvi" part in his name is Finnish. It means "head lake" or "main lake". North Americans sure will have problems with that and he will propably get a shortened stage name when he enters the league.

PS. Lilja and Ritola are Finnish names too even though they are Swedish fellows.

Probably just MPS like GPS or something like that.

I actually don't like "Hank," the anglicized nickname of Zetterberg. I always refer to him as Z.

It's true:

Lilja translates to "Train of Pain"

Ritola translates to "Refreshing Cough Drop"
