Those NTC's are such a damper on trade proposals...

Holland can talk and get him to waive it possibly

To OTTAWA?

Let's see. You're the #2 defenseman on a team fresh off a Cup finals appearance which was fresh off a Stanley Cup win. You're playing for the team you grew up watching, living in the city you grew up in. Not only are you paired with arguably the best defenseman playing the game today, you're also playing for arguably the best coach behind the bench, AND working for arguably the best owners in the NHL.

Do you REALLY think that Rafalski would give that up to be traded to the Senators? A team with two chances to make the playoffs, slim and none?

Same goes with Cleary. No way is he going to waive his NTC to be traded to Ottawa.

The wont and cannot trade Rafs and cleary because of the ntc, and raffy would never do it. Heater is one dimensional and doesnt play our two way style, plus with his attitude the detroit braintrust would never allow such a trade, he wouldnt help the dressing room. I dont mind Ohlund but I think he might want too much coin, he will be seeking more then his 2.2M salary from last year, hes on the downward slope despite his age of only 32. Bertuzzi is done, and we already lost Shawn Mattias for signing him, he left our team after we traded for him. Hes going down, if not already done, and doesnt fit at all,and people here have a bad taste in their mouths regarding him. Maybe a few years ago, but not now. His salary could be better spent. ....watch out our posters here are pretty well schooled and arent afraid to speak their minds, and they will bash your proposal. I fear this could get ugly....

I do really like Neil, and Larose would be decent if drapes and maltby are out of the picture....

Hell no, you are giving up way too much. I'd rather have Hossa than Heatley, and we certainly wouldn't need to give up all that to make cap space for him. Neil's a FA, so we can just wait until July 1 to make a run at him, no need to trade anyone. And Bertuzzi ... really?

I've seen a lot of crazy stuff on this site, but come on!

Here is another idea, why do so many people not understand a NTC. People throw out the idea of trades daily that involve players with a NTC and get ridiculed. You would think that others would learn. I guess not.

Players with NTC (Stuart, mainly) are the best option to trade without trading a young player with many good years ahead of him.

The biggest problem with an NTC is making it the RIGHT trade so that the player actually waives the NTC.

But here's an interesting thought.

Offer Stuart to Edmonton for Jean-Francois Jacques and one of Taylor Chorney, Ladislav Smid, or even a 2nd rounder (a 1st rounder if they are willing).

Stuart is from halfway between Edmonton and Calgary, so he might be perfectly willing to go for that deal. Stuart's salary is the biggest block between the Wings and retaining Hossa, and Stuart was our worst defenseman in the playoffs, especially in the finals.
