SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted June 29, 2009 He's really gonna have to go some to impress me. I will miss Ty. He's got big skates to step into as far as I'm concerned. Jimmy Howard only needs to be Jimmy Howard, not Ty Conklin or anybody else.

OsGOD 3 Report post Posted June 29, 2009 it makes perfect sense really.... The Wings aren't playing in the Winter Classic this year... common sense would tell you he wouldn't be back
Dimaline312000 51 Report post Posted June 29, 2009 On, one hand this is a major bummer considering thet Conks played absolutley fantastic for us this past season. I hate to see him go. On the other had Howard deserves a chance to play in the NHL. As I've said before the only consern I have is that Howard won't be able to back Ozzie up and the Wings will be looking for a new Back-up goalie by the Deadline or something. I wish Conks all the best and I thank him for his great play in Detroit and I hate that the Wings weren't able to give him his first Cup. He deserves to Win a Cup and I hope he does real soon. Bring on Howard; it's your time to Shine buddy. I hope you can shine the brightest when we need you the most.
HadThomasVokounOnFortSt 878 Report post Posted June 29, 2009 I wish he would come back, I thought he was a decent goalie for when OsGood was tired.
Hockeytown_Ryan 122 Report post Posted June 29, 2009 Jimmy Howard only needs to be Jimmy Howard, not Ty Conklin or anybody else. Has to be a Red Wings goalie....has to be solid... He has not impressed so far. Im not saying its a mistake YET!!!!! But i have to side with the concerned fans with this one. Howard has had chances to prove himself and has not done very well I get a Cheveldae feeling with this kid... sorry if anyone does not agree.... But thats my opinion
The Big Red Machine 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2009 (edited) No real surprise on this one. The Wings' management seems to really like Jimmy and Conks is due a big raise after his play this past season. After all is said and done, Ty might come out as a starter with a nice contract. I wish Ty all the best and thank him for saving the Wings' butts when Ozzie went south during the regular season. germanwing 154 Report post Posted June 29, 2009 Thx Ty! I´m sorry for you, that you´re not a wing next year...so you won´t win the Stanley Cup!
zata20 4 Report post Posted June 29, 2009 it makes perfect sense really.... The Wings aren't playing in the Winter Classic this year... common sense would tell you he wouldn't be back Philadelphia & Boston could be real possibilities for him next year. He could go in Philly to compete for the starting job against Emery or he could go backup Thomas in Boston.
talex 1 Report post Posted June 29, 2009 Not that Conks was super great, but from what I have seen of Howard, especially if Ozzie plays the same next season as he did during this past reg season... I hope they really add to the defense because we are going to need it.
FedorovMan91 1 Report post Posted June 30, 2009 Conks was good for us throughout the season. Too bad he did not win the cup with us. Best luck to him wherever he goes to. He was our number one goaltender in the regular season. I agree with the upper poster. I am actually scared of Osgood who had the worst regular season in his career. I am not seeing a huge improvement from him; just hope he does not play as he did in 08-09 season.
miller76 463 Report post Posted June 30, 2009 I think that Conklin and the Wings greatly benefited equally. He brought a little consistency and true to form back-up to a struggling Osgood. He wasn't a locker room cancer, and he was always a professional. And because of him doing his job, he will be rewarded now. He is going to go somewhere and sign a deal that will give him some more security in his life. Good for him, and your welcome back anytime, when the situation is right. Pavel Hossyukstrom 2 Report post Posted June 30, 2009 Philadelphia & Boston could be real possibilities for him next year. He could go in Philly to compete for the starting job against Emery or he could go backup Thomas in Boston. I know this could be a real possibility. But it makes sense more for Philly since they're the visiting team. Conks has won as the visiting team goalie the last two times.
Pavel Hossyukstrom 2 Report post Posted June 30, 2009 Is Legace on the table this year? Ozzie/Legace tandem would be pretty cool. And both of them are good friends.

gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted June 30, 2009 Good for Conks pocketbook. Most likely will be good for Conklin's career. Good for Wings pocketbook. Most likely bad for Wings in every other way. I am with the masses not impressed with Howard. I hope he can prove me wrong, but I don't have much hope. The fact that this guy hasn't been able to come in and compete for a backup role even last year was telling to me. It just seems like they kept lowering expectations season after season and still he never lived up them. Even so, the bottom line is that this deal is about money. Conklin's going to get more as he deserves more and the Wings can't afford to pay a backup goalie as much as they're paying their starter. Not to mention the fact that their starter is probably the most underpaid guy in the league at this point. Everybody better start praying for Osgood's health and groin now. Osgood was my number 1 through thick and thin last year despite the outcry of the masses, but if it didn't pan out, I wasn't super worried as Conklin's hardly the worst option. I do not have that same comfort with Howard. I hope he proves me wrong, but eh, he's had a lot of time to get things going and it just seems like he's never really had the heart in him to rise to the top level...even as a backup.
