Samuelsson

I keep reading posts that Samuelsson is gone. Where did he go? I sure didn't read about it in the paper. Does the fact that he's just not signed make people assume he's gone....or is he actually?

I think Sammy would be stupid to leave to be honest. Unless he gets some absolutely huge offer from another team, something like 3 Mil.

He's been on many other teams previously in his career and has never had even half the success anywhere else that he has had here.

he has also never had a big pay-day before. if he stays with the wings he will earn $1.5m per year max; elsewhere he could probably get $2m or more. i would not blame for taking the money.

+1

Although Sammy back at 1.5 would make me feel a little more comfortable.

D Z Cleary

Mule Flip Sammy/Huds (The MFS line was great postseason 07-08)

Leino Helm Sammy/Huds

Homer Draper Malts/UFA

OR

D Z Cleary

Mule Helm Flip

Leino Draper Sammy

Homer Huds Malts

That line up sucks nevermind! Unless you replace Sammy with Yelle

D Z Cleary

Mule Helm Flip

Leino Draper Huds

Homer Yelle Malts

Didn't do the cap numbers just thinking out loud, I guess what would you call it, thinking on my keyboard?

That's what I'm saying. If he gets a big offer from another team, by all means go for it. His value will probably never be higher.

But for him, more than for anyone else, I think taking $0.500-1.000 less per year to stay in Detroit should be a no-brainer. It's easy to say I guess, but if the Wings hadn't picked him up odds are he wouldn't even be in the NHL today.

For some reason I need to add that if not for him whiffing, not hitting, missing his poke check on that rugrat Kennedy the Wings win the series, but he shied away from the hit, and Kennedy of all people scored. God I hate that cheeserstache he wears! Worse than Crosby's by a long shot!

I happen to know a family member of a player in the Wings' system, he was at Ken Holland's house on June 30th, and the talk was that while the Wings' were busy persuing Hossa, they put Samuelsson on the back burner and forgot about him and he got mad about it, so he is now looking to go elsewhere.

At some point a guy making a mil a year, if he has the chance, will likely take the payday of his life. A jump from a million dollars to 3 million is alot more than someone who already has 40 million in the bank passing on another 5.

This payday could be security for his family and his child or childrens future(s). It could be peace of mind for him. It's very easy to blow the kind of money he is making if you're not careful and at odd times, it may not even be your fault. I won't be mad at him for leaving. I'm thankful for what he gave us, glad with the improvement he made, and wish him the best.

It's kind of nice knowing that for all the years he was The Whipping Boyâ„¢, during his final couple of seasons he'd silenced most of his critics and gets to leave on that high note(minus those who didn't like him on the PP).

Heh... how the hell could Holland focus on Hossa when Samuelsson was sitting there! :ranting:

Good call man! Send him to Chicago with the other wimps.

Maybe this is where it came from:

Red Wings have depth to overcome loss of star forward Marian Hossa..

by Ansar Khan

Thursday July 02, 2009, 1:00 AM

".......They won't be as potent offensively without Hossa and Mikael Samuelsson, who also appears headed elsewhere. But they still have three star forwards -- Pavel Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Franzen -- and some talented supporting players who must compensate for the losses......."

But still nothing that says he has signed anywhere.....

Samuelsson and Williams on the points on the 1st PP, Lidstrom and Rafalski on the 2nd PP.

Kenny, get 'er done!

yes to williams no to sammy. oh my god i have never seen a less useful or more sloppy person on the blue line during a power play. and is it possible for sammy to stick handle and skate at the same time??? i swear to god he just stands there trying to act like he has skill and then just gives up the puck for a breakaway goal. i hope so bad he is done wearing the winged wheel

Kronner has already had his day as the whipping boy. It's the reason why my user name is what it is. He was getting bashed when I joined. People were saying that there was no way he was going to make it in the NHL and that his $3 cap hit was so horribly high that we were screwed. He was never going to make it through a season without injury and anything he did in Sweden/GR was irrelevant because he just wasn't NHL material. Then '08 happened, and people finally shut up.

We just can't hate on Homer; he's too cuddly. Lebda has already been the whipping boy. Drapes and Malts are over 1000 games and on their last contract, so enough people are whining about them already because they're not playing like it's 1997.

That leaves... Stuart, Flip, Meech, and Howard as possible contenders for the LGW Whipping Boy.

We need Lang back. Just to be the Lazy and Sucks guy on the team. He wouldn't need a roster spot. We could hire him to fill the gaterade bottles or something.

per MLive Snapshots Updates:

No news on Samuelsson as the market slows down

Posted by George James Malik July 02, 2009 16:27PM

After Wednesday's 46-player flurry of signings, only 12 players have either signed with new teams or re-signed with their previous employers, with the biggest signing just hitting the wires as Rob Scuderi joins Hal Gill as a former Pittsburgh Penguin by signing with the Los Angeles Kings.

As such, there's no news to be had on Mikael Samuelsson's imminent status as an ex-Red Wing, and it's entirely possible that he may not sign with a team until tomorrow or Saturday as Alexei Kovalev, Alex Tanguay are still out there, and comparable 20-goal, 40-to-60-point players like Ruslan Fedotenko, Mike Comrie, Petr Sykora, Robert Lang, Todd Bertuzzi, Jason Williams, and Ales Kotalik remain on the market.

The first three to five days of the free agent period are wildly unpredictable, so Samuelsson could sign in the next half hour...Or he could sign next week.
