Real Reason Why We Didn't Win The Cup

I thought it was because we don't have enough fighting majors, didn't win the President's Trophy, have too many soft Euros, are too old, Osgood sucks, the Joe is too quiet, Downey wasn't in the lineup, and that Babcock hates Americans.

That's part of it, but not what the OP had in mind. ;)

Osgood gets scored from center ice (twice) in 98.

Lidstrom scores on Cloutier from center ice in 2002.

Lidstrom scores on Ellis from center ice in 2008.

All that is missing is 97.

Yzerman scored from near center ice in Game 5 against the blues from what I remember.

He did. At 0:14.

How awesome is that? And also, that was a VERY pivotal moment in the 97 playoffs because the series was tied 2-2 and it looked dead even until the Wings ran away with it.

The Wings didn't win the cup for the following reasons:

1. Hossa didn't show up in the finals.

2. Datysuk wasn't in game shape by the time he came back.

3. Homer was injured and or completely gassed.

But really, the most important reason was Hossa. 7.45 million, no goals in the final 3 games. Simple as that. Hossa was a passenger in the finals, and all we needed out of him was 1 or 2 goals in those final 2 games. It's Hossa's fault. Everyone else did their part.

And the worst thing is that Holland could have signed some serious depth instead of Hossa, keep the Euro Twins together (they are always money), and possibly coast to another Stanley Cup. Unfortunately for Holland hindsight isn't 20-20 and he made the right decision in getting Hossa at the time.

We did score like 4 from atleast 60 ft during the 97 finals on hextall and snow...I guess they can add up to the same stuff haha

Hossa's whopping 3 assists in 7 Stanley Cup finals games certainly didn't help. His 15 points in 23 playoff games wasn't what we were expecting from him. That being said, 15 points in 23 games is by no means terrible; it's just not what you expect out of a guy of his caliber or from a guy who is getting paid what he was.

Personally, I just think our injuries caught up to us and our offense dried up. I remember watchign game 5, when we blew out the Pens 5-0, and saying to my friend that we're in trouble. Anytime you blow a team out in tight playoff series you're giving them all the motivation in the world to come back at you harder than ever.

Biggest reason we lost was Datsyuk and Lidstrom not being 100%, or even close really. No team can lose guys like that.

I still replay that game 7 in my mind all the time, wishing for a different outcome.

Even though the Wings were injured, they should have gutted out a game 7 victory at home somehow. I think they were the first pro-sports team in almost 30 years to lose a game 7 at home in the Final series. It just feels embarassing.

In the last 2 games (the most important games of the season), Draper and Ericsson were the only players that scored for us. That's means even our secondary scorers disappeared.

And people say Draper should retire

Aside from all the injuries and lack of point production, I think it's actually my fault we lost. Not really, but I did notice odd similarities between the Wings in the playoffs and me in track.

2007- My last meet was Conference which was May 20th, also the day of game 6 of the WCF when the Wings were KO. My last meet of the season = their last game of the season.

2008- I made it to the State Final. Wings made it to the Cup Final. I got a medal. They got the Cup.

2009- I made it to State again. They made it to the Finals again. I didn't get a medal. They didn't get the Cup.

Obviously I don't seriously think that's any part of it, I just thought it was a really weird coincidence. Just in case though if I make it to State again I'm trying even harder for a medal.

Because we didn't have a 50,000 posts for a game seven victory thread.

:scared: We didn't?!?! Pshh well then forget what I said. How could we let that happen?!!?!
