Guest Crymson Report post Posted October 15, 2009 Ninety-Sux cost us the first two goals last night. He stinks during 5 on 5 play. Everyone on here is catching onto that fact. Just took a little shock treatment to get everyone to start watching him. Back when he was playing well, I'm sure you were cheering him on. Now that he's not playing as well---age and injuries, no doubt, as there are few who work as hard as Homer does---you want to throw him in front of a bus and you insult him at every opportunity. Some fan you are.

I'm a fan of the Detroit Red Wings. If a player or coach is helping the team win games, then I'm a fan of them too. If they are hurting the team, yah, then I want them off the team. I'm not saying Holmstrom is a bad guy or should be kicked to the curb. I'm just saying that the coaching staff and general management shouldn't let him hurt the team. Unfortunately, they have to deal with some things that are commonly known to most people. Salary Cap would be a good start. They can only pay so much money out, so rookies and B-Listers are going to be seen. Player Contracts is another thing to look at. Do you know what "No Trade Clause" means? CBA, Free Agency? Any of these ring a bell inside your Penguins helmet? Besides all that, a little loyalty would cool to see. Five games in and you've got players swimmin' with the fishes rather than giving them a chance to pick up their game. /trolling...please
waitahochiminute 2 Report post Posted October 15, 2009 Homer is about the best player to have in the post season IMO. Sure he s*** the bed last year but he still has skill in front of the net and he still has that fire in him to get in peoples faces and dig in the boards. Who doesn't wanna see him deflect passes and stir things up in front of the net?
mjlegend 155 Report post Posted October 15, 2009 Yah, and I did the same thing to Yzerman when he started costing the Team wins. And when would that have been? I must have missed than sometime in the last 20-plus years. The Wings are like a family, loyal to a fault and determined to help players out who have helped them in the past. You're like a drug addict, looking for the nearest quick hit.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted October 15, 2009 And when would that have been? I must have missed than sometime in the last 20-plus years. Even in his last season Steve was one of the Wings' best players after he got back onto a scoring line when Bob got hurt in December, and in the playoffs he was outstanding, probably the team's best player behind Hank and Bob. Even at his most hobbled there was never a time when Steve "cost the Wings wins."

It's also why they're so successful as a franchise. Jake Ryan apparently thinks he knows more about how to run a franchise than the current front office does, though. cjm502 165 Report post Posted October 16, 2009 (edited) Did Homer just score again? I also saw him out skating everyone in to the defensive zone for a brief second earlier too. Btw, that was a statement not a question... Edited October 16, 2009 by cjm502

NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted October 16, 2009 Homer was flat-out great last night. Even though its early in the season he seems to have put last seasons struggles behind him and really looks like his old self. While he was never a great defensive player, he skated hard last night and really paid attention to his defensive responsibilities. He's not going to be Z or Dats in regards to having the ability to hold on to the puck or even Leino or Helm in that regard, but he did everything one could ask of him last night with what he's capable of. I'll take the Homer of last night all season! Talk about stepping up when the Wings needed someone. Speaking of stepping up....Z...with a 'beaut' of a redirection! mmamolo 287 Report post Posted October 16, 2009 The Holstrom bashing is getting absolutely ridiculous. It's funny how before the season started we had all these haters on this forum saying Holmstrom should be on the fourth line or only get PP time or shouldnt even be on the team and look at him now. It's the same with Maltby. Most ppl here wanted to toss him aside as well. Obivously no one would have really predicted that those two would have the starts they have had but when I was saying they both deserved and could play for spots on this team ppl laughed. It blows me away that a lot of ppl here can't acknowledge that they were wrong (at least so far) about Holmstrom. It was obvious he was injured in the post season and anyone who thinks he is completely done is a fool. With these two keep up this pace? Obviously not. But how about some loyalty. How about giving guys a chance to play and get on stride? How about everyone who shoots their mouth off in the preseason owns up to their wrong opinions. Personally, I hated the Jason Williams signing. I thought he would put up decent numbers but wouldn't buy into our system and be a defensive liability. So far I was wrong about that. He has played hard, been defensively responsible and put up very solid numbers. It's not so hard to admit. maybe some other ppl on this forum should try it. robb himself 143 Report post Posted October 16, 2009 everyone wanted holmstrom traded....but hes playing like a mad man everyone wanted maltby scratched...but hes scoring timely goals everyone wanted Osgood's head on a pike...but hes playing great (other than the buffalo game, in which the whole team just sucked overall) Ive heard everything in the last couple days from getting new coaching staff to trading star players and may I remind you that it has only been 6 games?? and this team has a TON of adversity to overcome with the losing of so many players, having to fill those voids with rookies and free agents and haveing injuries to star players such as franzen and datsyuk. Every season is not going to be perfect and you have to realize that these little speed bumps at the begining of the season are very typical of a team that has had this many changes. it pains me everytime I come on here and read about how much the team sucks just because they are not off to a typically great start...but an ok one. You guys act like they should be 82-0 and its just not going to happen. Just relax and have a little faith in them! I mean its only been 6 games! and now they have won 3 of them. Just relax and let this team start to gel which I think they are generally starting to do and before you know it they will be right back where they need to be.
