VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted November 6, 2009 Complete and total BS, for several reasons: 1) Forsberg has already stated he will never play for Detroit under any circumstances because he feels it would be a slap in the face of the great traditional rivalry between Colorado and Detroit. 2) The last thing the Wings need is another injury-prone forward. under_par_00 45 Report post Posted November 6, 2009 Just because Colorado is playing well right now and have beaten the Wings twice this season doesn't mean the rivarly is alive and strong. The rivalry all but died with all the major stars of those battles being gone. Adam Foote, Tomas Holmstrom, Kris Draper, Kirk Maltby, Nicklas Lidstrom, amd Chris Osgood are the only players still with their respective teams from the hayday of the rivalry. In my opinion the rivalry all but died last season with the uninspired match ups and especially with the retirement of Joe Sakic. Bring back Valeri Kamensky, Claude Lemieux, Sandis Ozolinsh and Adam Deadmarsh and I'll believe you when you say the rivalry is alive I think you forgot someone who goes by the name of Patty Roy! God I hated that guy....great goaltender though.
Kira 451 Report post Posted November 6, 2009 As far as I'm concerned, he'd have to pay the Wings for the chance to play before I'd sign him.
shoe 165 Report post Posted November 6, 2009 if I was going to try and think like Forsberg the teams he would want to play for in order in my opinion are... Philly Pens (this wouldnt surprise me in the least) and wouldnt that be an even more fun rematch Avs Van / Chicago and if none of them wanted him then Detroit
Guest mindfly Report post Posted November 6, 2009 I would die happy if forsberg signed with wings but it won't happen, holland wants that relief of cap space next season and stated several times that he's not interested in forsberg.. for whatever reason? :S

NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted November 6, 2009 Not worth it. Plus I believe Forsberg when he said that he wouldn't sign with Detroit out of respect for the old rivalry. ^This......but he *is* worth it for the right price.
StevieY9802 6 Report post Posted November 6, 2009 (edited) For the right price I would do it. But it won't happen. If he goes to Chicago that would be nuts. Then I would laugh if they lost early. When he went to Philly everyone gave them the Cup. Then he went to the Preds and everyone here thought that would put them past the Wings, first round loss for the Preds. Who still have not won a playoff road game. They're in good company with the Blue Jackets in that department.
Doggy 130 Report post Posted November 6, 2009 Chelios said something similar before he came to Detroit so feelings can always change...anyways stay in Sweden forsberg He was traded to Detroit. Forsberg might've been traded to Detroit but he had a NTC and chose to go elsewhere (Nashville).
kylee 727 Report post Posted November 6, 2009 people seem to still be talking about the old rivalry between the Avs and Wings... but im just wondering, what did forsberg do that was dirty?? what has he ever said? that he'd never play for detroit, how much he hates them? oh wait that was Chelios. i dunno, itd be funny to see at first noo doubt. but hes not on my shortlist of players id NEVER want to see here. but with all that aside, sounds like nothing but speculation. He never said anything about hating Detroit. Hate can change. He said he'd never play for Detroit ot of respect for the historic rivalry, which is something that is far less likely to change. Even at the right price, Forsberg is not worth it. He's the only player I can think of that is guaranteed to suffer a long term injury at a crucial time. Even for cheap, he'd be a waste of money. While I am not sure whether or not he had a NTC in 1999, but I do know that he gave Chicago a list of teams he would go to and Detroit was on that list, SO, ya, it is the same... VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted November 6, 2009 Because he sits more than he plays possibly? That and what does Forsberg provide us that we don't already have? Sure, he's still got talent but he's so injury prone he'd be useless. Where would he fit on this team?
cjm502 165 Report post Posted November 6, 2009 This isnt Roy, Lemieux, Foote, or any of those ****** bags. This is Forsberg. He is one of the most respectable guys to ever play in the NHL. I dont think he would have a problem playing for Detroit.
Uncle Danny 155 Report post Posted November 6, 2009 That and what does Forsberg provide us that we don't already have? Sure, he's still got talent but he's so injury prone he'd be useless. Where would he fit on this team? Three very different questions there: 1) what does Forsberg provide us that we don't already have? I'm not sure this is really even worth dignifying with an answer. I'm not going to insult you by asking if you ever saw the man play. I'm sure you have. As for what he brings that we don't already have, he'd bring a fourth world class talent to our roster. A healthy Forsberg (more on the healthy bit in a moment) is an asset any team on the planet would welcome. 2) Sure, he's still got talent but he's so injury prone he'd be useless. Speculation, but I'll grant you that his injuries in recent years are more than a little worrisome. If he's injured, he's useless. If he's playing, he's anything but. In Holland's shoes, would I roll the dice for a Jason Williams sized contract to bring him on? Abso-f'ing-lutely. 3) Where would he fit on this team? This one made me chuckle a little bit. The answer is, if he's healthy, anywhere he wants. First line scoring? PP? PK? Secondary scoring? Shut down line? Energy line? Check, check, check, check, check and check. This guy was his day's Zetterberg and then some -- the best all around forward in the league (rivaled maybe only by Fedorov). Shoot, I'd bet the guy could play defenseman better than 90% of the bottom pairings in the league today. Can he still bring it like he did in his 20's? Doubtful, but I'll take 60% of Forsberg in his prime over Eaves, Maltby, Williams, May (please don't turn this into another anti-enforcer argument ), Meech, Leino, etc any day of the week... so long as he's actually playing...which, again, is a considerable "if." All that said, it ain't gonna happen. He's been gone for too long, won't accept a reasonable contract (I'm guessing), can make more in Russia, and, all other things being equal, would almost certainly choose any other contender before signing with Detroit given history. But I'd sign him in a heartbeat for $1.5 million given the chance.
