russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted November 12, 2009 He has some ties to the team already. He and Abdelkader are both former Spartans. He was teammates with Brad May and Todd Bertuzzi. I would like to see Miller-Abdelkader-May out on the ice together tonight. Then based on who plays strongest bring Maltby back in.

russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted November 12, 2009 You'll get your wish. Except I didn't want Malts to get all swined up... Hopefully Miller and Abdelkader have some good chemistry
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted November 12, 2009 Finally, a replacement for Hossa! I get it! It took me a minute (ok, several hours). Looks like we'll see him tonight. Hope all the people who put in a good word for him are right about him.

Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted November 13, 2009 He looked decent out there tonight. Solid defensively. Didn't really do anything of note, which is perfectly acceptable for a fourth liner.
Carman 387 Report post Posted November 13, 2009 (edited) First game with a new team, with very limited practice time. I was pretty impressed for a 500k player. Played on some key shifts on the PK and did well. Look forward to seeing him get comfortable with Abby, I like that line with May. Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted November 13, 2009 (edited) Didn't really do anything of note, which is perfectly acceptable for a fourth liner. I'm reminded of a prominent Arrested Development quote, modified to fit our situation: "Fourth liners should neither be seen nor heard", and if that's not bait for ESAD I don't know what is. VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted November 13, 2009 Didn't really do anything of note, which is perfectly acceptable for a fourth liner. I didn't see him on the ice a single time. Of course, I missed the first period (listened on the radio) and only caught the rest on crappy quality, jerky stream. Oh, and then half the 3rd the stream dropped out. Doc Holiday 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2009 I saw Miller out there quite a lot. He was taking a crap load of bad angle shots, but other than that played a solid game. Fourth line looked badass.
Frozen-Man 144 Report post Posted November 13, 2009 I absolutely can't stand Holland's distaste for physical players. Kris Newbury is leading the team with 10 points, has some fights, and plays physical every game. What gives? We sign this guy? What gives with you wanting to dry hump any player who plays physical. That is the only demension of any player that you ever talk about or seem to think matters. The wings picked up May and play him but still you whine, we get the guy off waivers, on a two way contract, for table scraps and still all you can do is post a "I hate Holland" and "No other skill matters as long as they are physical." Pretty pathetic. Can you say SPEED??? SPEED SPEED SPEED SPEED SPEED SPEED SPEED Holland does NOT have a distaste for physical players. The problem is that most fighters are SLOW!!!! And one of the reasons why there are so many injuries is because of SPEED. Miller provides the Wings with the TWO most important assets that others do not provide....... SPEED and a TWO-WAY contract. Wings penalty kill stinks..... Miller is a good penalty killer and a good defensive forward. It seems that all anyone cares about or pays attention to is goals...... Well, now that Datsyuk and Zetterberg don't have to play extra minutes killing penalties maybe they will be the ones to put in the goals that everyone so badly wants, since they can now spend more time on offense...... that's what they are paid for. Miller at $525,000.00 is not being paid to be in goals. But . . . But . . . But . . . all that matters in any player is that he is physical any other reason, rationale, ability, or skill is unimportant - and it must be true because ESAD said it and he has really impressive credentials he watches lots of hockey. "He's been around the NHL, knows what the league is about," Holland said. "We've got some kids in the system. If we have any more injuries, I'm hoping to move in players who've played in the league." Miller is in the final year of his contract ($525,000), a two-way deal." This should help counter that tool-bag E_S_A_D's drivel. But he is not physical enough for ESAD so it must be a bad deal. ESAD reminds be of a quote from a Ron White "he's one of those guys who likes to go home, watch Roadhouse, and beat off." He hates them so much he didn't sign Brad May. Oh, there goes that. Not to mention that Brad May, who ESAD lusts after, thought it was a pretty good idea and lobbied to bring the kid on - "(May and Bertuzzi) gave him strong endorsements and our video coach (Keith McKittrick) has been involved with him (at MSU)," Babcock said. "They all thought he was a player who was intelligent, could play all parts of the game and it would be a boost to our team. He can play the game offensively and defensively and he can skate, so he should help us."

eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted November 13, 2009 I've liked Drew Miller since his days at MSU. I thought the Ducks were stupid to waive him, and I think it's great that we got him from Tampa. For everyone who was saying "Maybe we can get another Eaves-type player!" here you go.
MillerFan 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2009 (edited) I'll be blunt, I have always hated the Wings. Drew Miller may change that. Big Miller fan here, was my screen name not a tip-off? You guys have got a very underrated defensive forward and one hell of a great human being. He was loved by fans in Anaheim for his tenacity, sound decision making and his actions off the ice. Hockey players are certainly a unique breed when it comes to how much they will do for their fans, But I know I wasn't the only Ducks fan who was truly touched by Drew's generosity. I just figured I'd share. Edited November 13, 2009 by MillerFan
