NickA 39 Report post Posted November 15, 2009 Ive noticed this year that both the FSD and the radio announcers are referring to Cleary as "Danny" cleary as opposed to "Dan" of years past. Also, the graphics on TV all say "Danny" now as well. But, at the Joe Louis, the graphics and PA Announcements are all as "Dan". I know its minor, but im just wondering---- has Cleary asked to be called Danny? Whats with the change?
Rice 42 Report post Posted November 15, 2009 I've always said Dan. I did notice they've been calling him Danny more lately, though. His name on Yahoo is listed as Danny also. Maybe he requested the change.

titanium2 867 Report post Posted November 15, 2009 See, one of his nicknames is Bear. http://freep.com/article/20091115/SPORTS05...tterberg-Cleary "Ville Leino has come in and he is a good player, he can make plays and create room for me and Bear," Zetterberg said. "And Bear is the same way, grinding a lot and creating a lot of room, holding onto the puck. I have to give a lot of credit to those two. Hopefully we'll continue." eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted November 15, 2009 It's an accent thing...his nickname is actually Beer, as he's from Newfoundland, which was once a colony of Irish settlers, and he himself is of Irish descent.

Pavel Hossyukstrom 2 Report post Posted November 15, 2009 (edited) At least we don't have a flower on the team like Pens do. WTF? is up with that name. I don't care if its a connotation from Fleury, no man in this league should be called a flower and still be considered a man. That's BS!! name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>&"> name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350" /> At least he lives up to his faggy name. Pavel Hossyukstrom 2 Report post Posted November 15, 2009 it took 18 posts for the penguins to be brought up bravo has nothing to do with the pens team. he just happens to be the goalie for them and is the only player that is called flower in a league where men play. oh i'm sorry i'll edit my post and say he plays for the flyers or something from now on. titanium2 867 Report post Posted November 15, 2009 I always go by how teammates refer to each other. Never the announcers. Gary Thorne and Bill Clement would too often call Lidstrom, "Nicky Lidstrom." No need for the flair when it comes to Lidstrom. "Nick" is great enough. swedishconnection 36 Report post Posted November 15, 2009 DANNNNYYYYYY is much more fun to yell than DAN when he scores a goal. At least that's why I started calling him Danny. Wasn't there a discussion after the Cup where you can't have any 2 names consecutively that end in "Y"? I thought it was generally accepted as common practice... Additionally, my tongue cannot do back-flips. It's an accent thing...his nickname is actually Beer, as he's from Newfoundland, which was once a colony of Irish settlers, and he himself is of Irish descent. What are you implying about the Irish? Beer equates to Irish? I resemble that remark! Now I cannot help but think of the "Fosters" commercials and how they say BEYEAH in Austrailian accents...
