The equipment van for the Minnesota Wild caught on fire this afternoon in the parking lot of Scotiabank Place in Ottawa prior to the Wild's game against the Senators on Saturday.

The fire began at approximately 2:30pm eastern as the van was backing into Scotiabank place. Firefighters remained on the scene for about 40 minutes. Police say that there were no injuries however a significant amount of the equipment inside was destroyed. Police are still investigating the cause of the blaze.

''There was a fire in an equipment van in the parking lot at Scotiabank Place this afternoon,'' the Wild said in a statement. ''No one was injured, but some of the Minnesota Wild's hockey equipment was damaged. The Wild is in the process of taking inventory to determine the damage to the equipment.''

According to the Twitter feed of the Minnesota Wild (twitter/mnwild), the team is taking inventory to determine the extent of the damage. According to a report by The Canadian Press, all of goaltender Nicklas Backstrom's equipment was destroyed. It appears as though at least some of the Wild players are now left without any skates, sticks or equipment and will need to purchase completely new equipment before tomorrow's game.

The Wild are now in touch with the National Hockey League to determine what options they may have.

But really though this sucks for them. Hopefully they can get some equipment in time to play their next game. I'd imagine it's just a matter of money really.

What I find suspicious is that Just 3 days ago, the Sabres had 7 players get food poisoning from eating at a steakhouse there, and now the Wild's equipment truck catches fire? Ut oh, Some Canadians are obsessing over their hockey team in the WRONG way. Lmao, I don't really think this is true but it just seems odd.

When I was in college, the bus that the mid-sized sports teams used to get to games and meets was pretty notorious for breaking down everywhere and any time, including with the baseball team several hundred miles away from campus in Georgia while on a training trip.

It finally went down for good when the engine caught fire on the way to Calvin with the track team. And not only did the bus burn, but at the time they were using magnesium composite pole vault poles, which were attached to the burning bus, and it got hot enough to have the magnesium catch fire, which I'm told was actually pretty scary to watch.

It was actually pretty funny because the response was first "Thank God no one was hurt" immediately followed by "Thank God they can't just fix that POS again this time."

This kinda relates to the karma thread for me. I guess I should formally apologize to the Wild. I just started another season on PS2 and I choose the Wild. I wanted a challenge. So I traded 3 defensemen for Sasquatch.

Karma. I get Pronger on the wild, and then the hockey gods spite the REAL team. Go figure.
