mwagner468 12 Report post Posted January 3, 2010 Well if we say we replced sammy with eaves, and we replaced Hudler with bertuzzi with all the grit we have added I think once we get healthy this team can win it all. Now I know some of you will say but who replaces Hossa, but with the neccessity of the wings playing strong team defence I think this team may be much like the 97 team of grit and timely goals. Or do you think we need one sniper at the deadline? ala a slave kozlov type of player?
Hack & Whack Rule! 160 Report post Posted January 3, 2010 Been saying it all along. This is still a team to beat. Yeah, we're banged up a bit right now, but get some of those guys healthy and send some of the kids back to GR, and we have cup run. As for Hossa...well, he didn't bother showing up for the playoffs anyway. The dude was hurt (I forget what the injury was), but there was no significant production. Playoffs will be good to us. cupforwings 138 Report post Posted January 3, 2010 i would say that Williams is more like Sammy than Eaves--a rocket right handed shot. Eaves is a very very good player, but he is no Sammy. And I don't think this team needs another sniper when the team gets healthy. It certainly wouldn't hurt, but I don't think this is necessary... They will be very very similar to the 2008 stanley cup winning team: strong defense backed by clutch offense.
brett 1,029 Report post Posted January 3, 2010 our defense and goal tending of late seems to be a LOT better than last year. add some offense when some guys get back and we could have a pretty good team

I keep saying this team is actually closer to the one that won us the Cup in 2008 than it is to the won that lost game 7 in 2009. Playoffs are a beast. You never know what is going to happen, but if we make it I hope we at least take out some good teams like Chicago, San Jose, New Jersey and Pitt. hehehe

Andy Pred 48 337 Report post Posted January 4, 2010 When you look at who we have got to come back in, things can only get better. I mean, Mule Z and Dan would be 50% of any others team 1st line. Add losing Lil Nic and Big Rig who are top 4 D guys on most sides and it only impresses me more as to how well the guys have done in hanging around the playoff places anyway. The biggest headache for Babs will be who he keeps up when everyone is healthy.

Miller Brew 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2010 Yeah, I know some fans are going to be sad once everyone is heatly and players like Miller and Abby lose their spots! I'll admit I'll be sad if Wings lose Miller on waivers. I hope we can at least trade him for some picks or something... Atleast we can't lose Abby and he'll get top line minutes in GR. He'll be a better player for it. Oh wait, does Drew have a two-way contract? If he does then I'll be so happy.

Yeah, but pretty sure he'd get claimed. It sucks, he's been awesome but if our team is better w/o him then I really can't get too emotional about it. But yeah, Eaves, Miller, Helm, and May are players I really like this year. It really says something when Miller is getting playing time ahead of Maltby who's riding the pine at some points. We won't send Miller down. We'll send guys like Abdelkader and Ritola down first. We're sitting at something like 19 on the normal roster with 6 injured (not counting Lilja). That means we need to send two guys down. Abdelkader was supposed to be playing in GR this year, as was Ritola. Janik will also be able to be sent back down. Also, none of this matters after the trade deadline.
Chunkylover 26 Report post Posted January 4, 2010 Isn't Eaves waiver exempt? Keep Miller that way. I'm with you all, I will hate to see the grinders go. If the Wings make the playoffs, it will have been due to their contributions.
Broken 16 381 Report post Posted January 4, 2010 (edited) Gonna be pretty sweet when we slide into the playoffs healthy with half a dozen Griffins ready to be seamlessly inserted into the lineup as Babcock sees fit. Sick depth. Edited January 4, 2010 by Broken
Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted January 4, 2010 To be fair the 08-09 team would have easily won the cup had they been healthy. Datsyuk and Hossa were both under 60%.
Wings_Dynasty 267 Report post Posted January 4, 2010 Homer-Dats-Bert Franzen-Z-Cleary We're fine. Just need to score more than we allow. The allowing part is what worries me most. And it's not Jimmy, it's the men in front of him on the blueline that Babs decides to play. I have made peace that Lilja is not coming back. I just worry that he will play certain players (Lebda, Meech) during slumps instead of going fishing for a 09 Ericsson type player for the post-season. "Well, they have experience" will likely be the excuse for keeping a Lebda or Meech on the roster instead of trying a Griffin with Ericsson for the 3rd pair. kylee 727 Report post Posted January 4, 2010 this team is going to be a sleeper in the playoffs no matter where they end up cause the pundits will write them off. look out. id love to spoil the party in chicago this year (again)

Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted January 4, 2010 They will be in the thick of it when everyone comes back. The Wings are sitting in 9th place despite missing nearly half their team for some time now. Remember, Pittsburgh was a distant 12th place in February last season.
