Is it impossible for him to sign a really low 1year contract like 1-3million per season? would/could the nhl interfere and not accept the contract? would not holland "allow" it because he's captain and franchise player etc? lidstrom got so much money and at this stage of the career and with the wings situation it would help the team ALOT, can be active in july and sign a player with more skillz than eaves/miller that is 500k guys.

I'm not worried about Lidstrom screwing around with us. Hell, he deserves all the time he thinks he needs though I doubt he'd do anything to hinder our chances of signing other people.

But something makes me worry about old Happy Hudler...

Do you have a source that proves otherwise? No? I didn't think so.

Red Wings w/ no Hossa = cup

Pittsburgh w/ Hossa = no cup

Red Wings w/ Hossa = no cup

Pittsburgh w/ no Hossa = cup

It's a proven curse.

You really need to get out more

I think there's also a winter classic curse.

Pit beat Buffalo - Pit loses in finals

Wings beat Chicago - Det loses in finals

Bruins beat Philly - ?

Oooo, I missed this post....

Leino's jock strap does not even want to provide him support, that is how bad he is.... Why don't you donate some money to this site and support it or are you a Penguins fan?

I must have hit a sensitive nerve! ;) Another person pissed at how the Wings are doing and looking for a scape goat. I have come on these forums after Leino has had a solid night with kudos from Babs and everyone still says he played like crap. Living room coaches are best left in the living room.

Leino has not had a solid night in months.... The guy did not even play the game last night... Hit a nerve? Ha! Don't flatter yourself...

:P

Can't perform at a high level?

Uh, am I the only one that realizes that Lidstrom has 20 points thus far (which isn't amazing, but isn't bad, considering our offensive woes) and is playing 25+ mins a night, while still being our most defensively-sound player?

Lidstrom can play just fine at the level we need him to play at.

He also has less goals this season than Hal Gill.

Good to hear Hudler is interested in coming back, even though nobody said that. You just know that calling your ex-GM of the team you're still under contract to to wish a happy new year and say you don't know what you'll be doing next year means "I want back in."

Despite the drama over Hudler's departure, I would gladly take him back.

No we won't.

Kronwall has been injured a lot, and I don't think Meech and Lebda can fill in either.

This team will have to bring in a top d-man if Lidstrom leaves. We won't be O.K. with what we have now filling in, especially since Rafalski is getting up in age also.

Why not? I'm sure you are aware that Detroit spends more on it's 6-defensemen then ANY other team. For all that money, more then 1/3 of our total cap space, shouldn't we have the best D in the league? Why do we need to spend so much? Stuart and Kronwall would make a great top pair, both are improving substantially, and I would argue Kronwall-Stuart are playing better this year then Lids-Rafa.

If Lidstrom retires, spending 6 or so million on another D-man would be a huge waste. How many top D-man does a team even need? 3 guys making over 3 million is enough. If we replace Lidstrom with an outside D-man, we are basically wasting our prospects. Ericcson is ready for top 4 duty, Meech kind of sucks, Kindl should be in the 3rd pairing next season.

Rafalski's contract ends after next season. He's gone. That's the time to get a 6 million/yr D-man. Stuart and Kronwall will also get raises after next season.

If we learned anything from last season, spending 1/3 of the cap on D-men, doesn't equal a good defensive team. The Wings lost the cup on scoring. The Wings could get a top 10 NHL forward using Lidstroms salary. Wings need scoring. Not another 6 million/yr defensemen.

Like i said before this is going to be lids last year and he knows it, but he doesn't want it to become a distraction so he is saying that he will decide after the season. And in my opinion our best d-man this year has been stewy.

lol, you believe that? He could have played with the wings this season, but turned it down...

I believe it. As I recall, he was quoted as saying it. The Wings couldn't afford him at what he wanted. The arbitration assures him a spot with the Wings when they can afford him, and he gets as good experience as if he was playing in the minors without having to be exposed to waivers.

That's how I'm looking at it. He was sent down for a year or two. When he comes back, we have him at a good price. It would have been a win-win situation except that we could have really used him because of injuries this year.

The NHL couldn't do s*** about it, but the NHLPA would raise all kinds of hell. And that's basically the jury of his peers.

In short, not going to happen.

Not to say he doesn't get something modest like 4-6 million tough.

There is nothing modest about 4-6 million for a 40 year old Lidstrom. I would think 4 mill would be the high end. 6 million would be ridiculously high at this stage of his career.

Kind of like Yzerman's contracts towards the end of his career.
