We MUST win against Edmonton

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Edmonton 4-1 Detroit

Detroit 1-5 Toronto

Detroit 0-6 New York Islanders

Atlanta 2-0 Detroit

These are all games that we could've won, and injuries shouldn't have been an excuse against these teams.

The Red Wings tend to take a holiday when facing teams like these.

This is do or die time, and the Wings face a very bad Edmonton team. A win here will help gain ground on other teams,

as well as provide some insurance. This is especially true now because Detroit will face a red-hot Vancouver team at

home the very next day, and Pittsburgh on Monday. If they don't win this one, they are again in a tough situation.

The Wings need to play with heart, even though it might seem that they don't need to against a team like Edmonton. They've gotta secure their lead against other teams fighting for a playoff spot, and they must take advantage of playing bottom-basement teams like Edmonton and Columbus.

This is not the time to s*** around, like last year in March/April.

What do you mean injuries were not an excuse?

The team has played completely different healthy than injured.

Perhaps he means that Wings should've won or at least kept those games tight even with many players injured. A pumped up Griffins wouldn't lose 6-0 to Islanders.

every game now is a must win.

LGW will not be a friendly place if they lose to the Oil on friday. but in an ideal situation, what id like to see is the wings run over the oilers in shooting gallery.

I agree.

On one hand, injuries have killed us this year missing so many players for such a long period of time. Since the olympic break and getting everybody healthy mostly, we've been playing like we should've to begin with.

On the other hand, even with the injuries we didn't give half the effort against some of the worser teams of the NHL. Mainly the ones mentioned by the OP. Leafs, Oilers, Islanders, Thrashers, etc.

I do think we'll see the same effort given from here on out no matter if we're playing the Oilers or the Predators. Gonna be fun stretch to end the season.

WE MUST WIN AGAINST EVERYONE

Yep. Given the current makeup of the teams, logic could dicate Detroit wins against Edmonton, 7 or 8 times out of 10 (hypothetically speaking).

Any one team can beat another team with just 1 opportunity given though, I don't care how good or bad the team is.

think ozzie might start against edmonton?

I hope so. Even though he is rusty, he should play well enough to win. It will also force the defence to play better if they want the win.

Why is everyone so intrested in starting osgood. Howard has been playing great and until he has at least one bad game he deseves the starts. We need every win, so we cant chance it now.

Goalies need a breather now and then. It's physically and mentally exhausting. Had it not been for the Olympic break, Ozzie would have been playing more lately.

Personally, I think the team in general tends to mentally write off teams like Edmonton, so having Oz in goal may not be the best idea. OTOH, maybe they will respond to having to play in front of a player who hasn't seen the crease in a while.

Whatever the reasoning, Howard needs a rest some time in the future, even if it is just a game here and there, if he is to be the go-to guy in the playoffs- which I think is pretty much a foregone conclusion at this point.

It's not a question of Howard playing badly, it is a question of him having had lots of starts recently, and there is certainly sense in keeping Howard fresh for what will be a tough game against Vancouver.

That said, Ozzie will be rusty, and we mustn't take Edmonton lightly. I guess if we have a large lead, we could always throw Osgood in, but I'm not convinced that that is particularly fair to either goaltender.

Because this isn't Brodeur or Luongo we're talking about here. Despite Jimmy's exceptional play this season, he's still a rookie and has never sniffed what he's about to experience should the Wings make the playoffs.

If the Wings do make it to the postseason and Howard s***s the bed, its not exactly an ideal situation to put in Osgood after having not started for roughly 2+ months. This isn't like two seasons ago where Ozzie had a great regular season but Dom got the nod because of his repuation. With that, Babs also can't afford to give Ozzie repeated starts at this point in hopes that what happened last season when Ozzie turned it on at this point will happen again. What he can do, is give Oz the occasional start when the matchup looks right to ensure he's atleast somewhat in game-form if he's called upon mid-April or later.

Well... Sometimes goalies get tired if they play every game. I'd rather put in Osgood against Oilers, than tired Howard against a tougher team.

We never play well in Edmonton, so I hope that can change.

I think we'll have a hard time beating Vancouver with the way they're playing right now.

So yeah, the Edmonton game is a must win, and I'm guessing Calgary and Nashville will play a few games until Friday, thus they're bound to get some points while we're not playing at all.

What can the wings improve the most, as I see it now they got like the best special team's in the nhl at the moment, both pp and pk clicking perfectly, huge part of the game especially in the playoffs...perhaps better chemistry and more scoring from different players is priority number 1 as there are just certain players that play to their potential atm?

Agreed, but back on topic id didnt realize how horrible the oilers really are this year. They only have 21 wins! this would be a horrible and costly loss.

probably not, i think if he does start it will be against like colombus a team thats not doin the greatest

Edmonton's doing as poorly as anyone: 2-7-1 in their last ten and losers of three straight. There's been such a long layoff since the last game Jimmy should be good to go, but on the other hand there's a game the next day and it would be good to give Ozzie a start now and again.
