Wings Sign Joey MacDonald

DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings added the goaltending depth they were seeking for AHL affiliate Grand Rapids Friday by bringing back a familiar face, signing Joey MacDonald.

The Red Wings also signed veteran minor-league centers Jamie Johnson and Chris Minard to play for the Griffins.

Good news for Grand Rapids.

Edit: I missed out the "a" in MacDonald. Someone fix it please

Chris Minard will always have a special place in my heart as he was a goal scoring machine for our local club the Alaska Aces in the ECHL. He was our leading goal scorer with 49 (from what I remember), and scored the biggest goal of the season for us in game 7 in the conference finals in double overtime. Guy was a great team player and a funny guy. I hope he does well in Grand Rapids. Great locker room guy.

Like! Joey himself wasn't terrible. Having a 3rd goalie on any team is a terrible position. The Wings only kept a 3rd goalie on the roster that year because they were concerned about Hasek's health and knew that Joey wouldn't clear waivers. They were correct. Almost as soon as he was put on the wire, he was snatched up.

Joey Macdonald....I thought this was a joke when I first heard it

This guy was terrible when he played for us, but not too sure how he panned out when he left, hopefully it turns out to be a great signing.

He is 31-52-11 with a 3.16 goals against average and .904 SV%, including 1 shutout (against Detroit) since leaving the Red Wings in 2007.

I wouldn't really look at his record as a performance factor considering he played for the Islanders. His Save percentage was decent, but his GAA has me concerned a bit.

He did manage to play lights out against Detroit, I guess the worst thing that can come out of this signing is he doesn't play well and just leaves next season.

That's the positive part.

Next up, Holland feels those pangs of loyalty, and signs Lebda, Schneider, and Maltby at the league minimum to play in front of MacDonald.

Don't worry. Fetisov's shot blocking has really improved since going back to Russia. Apparently, in Russia, you don't block shots. Shots block you.

As for JoeyMac- I'm cool with it. At least he won't hand us our shorts playing against us.

Groovy.

However, I'm going to kill the first person that comes on here and says send Osgood to the minors/adios Osgood something along those lines.

I see little reason to believe the goaltending situation for the Wings is going to change next season, Howard starting/Osgood backup in all likelihood.

Hopefully, Babcock will manage his goaltenders better and give Howard 50-60 starts and Ozzie the remainder, if not more for Ozzie depending on performance. Play your goalie 70 regular season games and you won't go far in the playoffs.

Hopefully not. I'm hoping to take back the central this year.

im all for bringing MacDonald back! great for GR and definately a better call up than McCollum at this point. McCollum is just not ready yet in my opinion.

Minard and Johnson look like great depth additions to GR as well.

now go get Modano Kenny!
