Nothing against Curtis as he was my favorite player, but I'll take Max Scherzer alone over him every day. Not to mention, Jackson and Coke who are valuable assets to the Tigers future as well. Travis has a great point too -- you can check swing and hit one out to right at Yankee Stadium.

Huge series starts tonight for the Tigs. I don't care how early it is, I want to beat up on the Indians and get the division lead. The White Sox are right there and they are usually a second half team unlike the Tigers under Leyland. It's a longshot, but the Twins are on fire lately too.

I see you Justin Verlander.

Agreed on all accounts. Scherzer alone was worth the trade; throw in Jackson and - to a lesser extent - Coke and Dombrowski looks real smart.

The White Sox worry me a lot more than the Indians do at this point, but this is a huge series.

JV is on some kind of mission right now. He has no-hit stuff every time he goes out. He is going to start the ASG and get the Cy Young if he keeps on like he is. Don't miss one of his starts, a pitcher like this is extremely rare.

I was on the phone with my Dad yesterday afternoon and he said simply, 'Verlander's pitching'. Which got me thinking about the stories he has of Morris and Senor Smoke and the '84 Tigers. Someday we'll be telling the next generation about Verlander.

Seriously, tell me again why Scott Sizemore got traded because the logic still hasn't clicked for me.

Ryan Raburn is fricking awful at 2nd base. Sizemore got 20 games as his chance, Raburn gets apparently all season and Inge can hit .200 every season and still start at third base. I don't know what Dombrowski's plan is other than he doesn't have one.

They better not lose this game and the series to the Indians. That's embarassing.

Aaaaand cue the Raburn homer.

Really though, it's because Scott Sizemore sucks.

He was an expendable piece for a team that needed a bullpen arm to keep from having to call up more guys who weren't / aren't ready. Sizemore had opportunities in the last 3 years and in each instance created more doubt as to whether or not he would be a successful major leaguer. He tore up the minors and immediately struggled at the Major League level. Don't get me wrong, it's not an easy transition - but he's got a long way to go and the Tigers are trying to win now.

No one could expect Raburn to struggle like this and hopefully he turns it around - but I'm still more comfortable with Raburn's offensive possibilities than Sizemore's anything.

Man, reading through this has been kind of funny. You guys are just as bad with Tigs as you are with the Wings. Quite early to want to all hang ourselves, but I did like GW1905's comment on how much of a "wreck" this team is.

Granted this game against the Rockies is quite forgettable, but I digress. First place bitchesssss.

Oh, how I hate the concept of Inter-League play.

The reason I like it is I get to see the Tigers every several years. It's nice for fans across the country to actually get a chance to see their fav teams once in awhile, other than that it sucks.

And while it was great getting to see the Tigs in Colorado tonight, they stunk. Poor base running and erratic pitching. All the D hats in the ball park make it fun though - reminds me of the Wings-Avs games, where we outnumber them! Would have loved to see JV- hope the ace salvages a W for the Tigs tomorrow afternoon.

It's hard to beat good teams in their own ballparks, but that doesn't make me hate interleague play any less. It's frustrating to drop these games to a team that we aren't competing against.

Loss drops the Tigs to 2nd place. Hopefully JV shuts down the Rockies' bats.

Go Pirates, too.

JV threw awesome again. At what point do we just assume he'll be the AL's starter in the all-star game? 4th CG of the year, 2nd in a row.

Here's hoping the Tigers take the offense with them to Chavez Ravine and take advantage of a struggling Dodgers team.

Indians win, too. 1GB

Wreck was a poor choice of words. I probably was emotional about some issue when I dropped that term. They can definitely look like a wreck at times, though I guess it would be better classified as erratic or wildly inconsistent. Which is fine because the AL Central as a whole fits that description, but it doesn't make the Tigers any less frustrating to watch at certain times. It isn't really all that early to get concerned anymore especially considering the Tigers history under Leyland in the second half. With Mauer back, I still think the Twins somehow may find a way to steal the division again.

That being said, I guess I fit in the minority that actually enjoys interleague play. I can do without seeing the Royals or White Sox 19 times. It's a nice change to see some different teams. However, I do agree with Leyland that they need to pick a set of rules (should be NL) and stick to them for interleague games. Hopefully with potential realignment it will balance out the schedule even more.

JV was remarkable again today. He just keeps throwing gems every single start. You just assume a Tigers win every fifth day from him regardless of opponent. It will be interesting to see how Dombrowski approaches the trade deadline. I still think another arm in the bullpen is the most pressing need even with Alburquerque and Furbush emerging to this point. David Wright or Jose Reyes would be incredible, but say goodbye to Jacob Turner for either.

I don't see Dombrowski making a move for Reyes when he can bid for him in the off-season. I agree that we definitely need to address the issue at 3B, though.

JV is the best pitcher in baseball right now, bar none. Every time he goes out he is a beast. Yeah, Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay are really good, but people do not fear them the way they do when they see JV's name starting that day. He has always had the stuff to win a lot of games and strike a lot of people out, but now he knows it and is actually PITCHING rather than trying to blow people away, and that is freekin scary. A guy who can pitch with JV's stuff is going to strike fear into the eyes of every opponent that steps into the box.

Its also cool to see that we have 2 guys tied for the AL lead in victories. Haven't had that in a long time.

does anyone know if you can move into batter seats at comerica park, if your seats are s***ty, and the other ones are un occupied?

You can slide up to them, but you might be asked to head back to yours. I bought standing room once and ended up in seats, though.

Aaaand, the side strikes out in the top of the 9th. Hopefully they can regroup tomorrow against Lilly. Frustrating because of how poorly the Dodgers have played so far this year - though you wouldn't tell from the way they've played this series.

I think our boys are tired from so many consecutive games.

Luckily, the Tribe lost, too.

The bats finally came alive today. Day off tomorrow, thankfully. Hopefully the offense will come back to life after the rest.

Side note, I loved the Tigers jerseys today. I've long wished they'd drop the white and orange from the away unis - and now I want to see it even more.

Elsewhere in baseball, Colorado continues to screw us - this time by failing to beat the Tribe today.

I couldn't agree more. I frickin loved those uniforms today. I have never been crazy about the orange in the away uniforms either and I don't like the script Detroit now at all. Cleveland went old school and they look terrific.

Nice, long homestand now. What do the Tigers do with Brandon Inge now? Can they honestly say he deserves to start over Don Kelly? I'm not sure the Tigers can afford to roll out a lineup with both Raburn and Inge in it.
